I'm a huge fan of David Tennant (As many people who have seen me go off into one of my daydreams know)[footnote]That sounded far less dirty in my head[/footnote], and would marry him given half a chance,[footnote]To quote Yahtzee "I'm not gay"[/footnote] and I hate Matt Smith with a passion, but if we're going for all of the doctors I'd have to say Tom Baker, and even then Tennant is very close behind.

My choice is Tom Baker.

Other major missing options are William Hartnell, Patrick Troughton, John Pertwee, Peter Davison, Colin Baker, and Sylvester McCoy.

I don't care if I'm not supposed to *****, some of us are old enough to have watched it in those days.
YES!
Tom Baker is my favorite as well. You can't beat that scarf!

I'm sick of all these damn people who just found out about Dr.Who and pretend the old series didn't bloody well exist. If you didn't watch the old stuff YOU ARE NOT A DR.WHO FAN. I also thought it was funny when everyone raged when they switched doctors. Sorry, but that's how things work. I didn't see what the big deal is.
Double post i know. But just saw this and have to say... you guys are awesome. Thankgod there are REAL fans knocking around. My fave is John Pertwee, followed by Baker.
Who's John Pertwee?
Probably my third choice would probably be Jon Pertwee, but I've never heard of this "John" fellow...

Oh, god, just of the new ones? No contest. Now if you mean out of ALL of them...hmm. You know, I think my answer might be the same, come to think of it.

Gotta say, though, Matt Smith is rapidly endearing himself to me.
I agree completely here. Though David Tennant was my favourite before, out of them all, Matt Smith has grown on me a lot recently. And although this is better off in the 'best companion' poll too, I have to say I much prefer Amy Pond as a companion than any of the earlier ones. She's much more 'hands-on' action girl and willing to get involved in adventures than others were...
I totally agree with both those statements

I liked Eccleston but Tennant is still my top Doctor. Now Matt Smith has rapidly made the role his own and I'm am liking it. I must say I look forward to seeing more of him.

And Amy Pond is by far the best companion the Doctor has had, but would she have suited Tennants Doctor? I think the new Doctor compliments this type of assistant and it has helped the new Doctor grow on me quicker

I'd like to have seen more of Eccleston. He had a happy exterior, but a distinctly angry edge which was normally hidden beneath - it fit well with the idea of the time war and guilt for destroying so much life.

Tennant, mainly because he's the Doctor I'm most familiar with. I do like the new Doctor though, and hope he can live up to his predacessors.

Aye, my post got cut off by my lack of looking to see if I had copied the whole thing.
'Twas a silly thing for me to do.

Well, I can cross out Christopher Ecclestone there, sorry to his fans, but I liked David Tennant and (what I've seen of) Matt Smith quite a bit more.

On one hand we have David Tennant, the actor who provided us with a rather serious yet still just little bit insane Doctor, who, while on the surface came across as peaceful, was willing to let a whole species burn to save the earth.

Then, on the other hand, Matt Smith provides a more eccentric and almost child-like Doctor, which, from what I've heard, is a return to the style of some of the previous Dcctor's. I haven't seen a lot of Matt Smith though, but what I have seen I like quite a bit. I guess, for sheer familiarity, I think I'll go with Tennant.

David Tennant - no question. Matt Smith has made me tune out completely, he annoys the shit out of me, I don't even want to watch him. It doesn't help that - according to a comment I saw this weekend - the head honcho on Dr Who views the character thusly: "The Doctor is a bit silly at times. He's a slightly silly old buffer in a few ways."

I don't want a fucking silly old buffer. I want the deep, slightly dark, intensity that we saw in episodes like the Pompeii one where Donna pleads desperately with the Doctor to please...please save someone. That fucking broke my heart and was a stellar scene that really illustrated the dilemma of time travel. Amazing beautiful moving sci fi. I don't believe Matt Smith (who in my 36 year old eyes looks about 12) has anything like the chops for that stuff and I honesty don't want to see him try it. Bad casting. Bad.

David Tennant mainly because he could be hilarious and at the same time scary as all hell

(The new guy hasn't been around long enough for me to decide [I need to see the next episode])

P.S. I know enough about the series' history to sat I'm a fan despite the fact the series has been around longer than I've been alive.

David tennant is the most well known of the three, so will probably win. But I have to say that I rally like Matt Smith so far.

Definately Tennant. He was just so animated and constantly moving, thinking, talking, all of it. I loved the asides he would go on when he's trying to solve a problem.

Now the new guy is just boring. He's slow paced, airheaded, and most of all, he actually played a zero sum game in the first episode. Yeah, I know it had to be "the companion must prover herself" and all, but the previous Doctor would ALWAYS find a runaround.
