I think if we really stop to analyze comedy too closely we'll discover nothing is funny. George Carlin was great at taking us right to the edge of that without bursting that delicate bubble of absurdity that kept a joke funny even after he analyzed it. See The Aristocrats for an example.

There was a Golden Age (1940s or 1950s) science fiction short story once where a couple of psychologists started analyzing why jokes were funny and why nobody ever knew where a joke came from and they discovered that jokes were actually an experiment being performed upon the human race by some otherworldly psychologists. Having made the discovery, they invalidated the experiment, which was ended, meaning nothing was ever funny again. The story ended on that note. I will give one (1) slightly used Internet to anybody who remembers the name of that story and/or its author.

George Carlin is the best comedian ever, and HE passed away.

Yeah I know. While George Carlin is funny he was too political sometimes. Sometimes that is all he talked about was politics and Religion which sometimes I was not in the mood for.

Mitch Hedberg talked about everything that was so obvious no one even notices.

I find Jim Davidson and Alan Carr are both very annoying for different reasons (ones too rightwing/racist and the other over-does the campness).

For best, I'd say Marcus Brigstock, Frankie Boyle and Shappi Khasandi.

Larry the Cable Guy (or really just about any of the Blue Collar guys). I never find anything he says to be the least bit funny. I'm surprised Dane Cook has so many votes. Sure he isn't the best comedian out there but I rate him above everyone else on this poll and I know I've laughed more at him then anyone else on here. (Kinda seems like Dane Cook backlash to me but meh)

That guy who totally rips off Bill Hick's material and image. I cant remember his name, but watching him massacre Hick's jokes and ideas is painful to me...

His name is Denis Leary. And yeah, he's a big ol' thief.

It really does matter. It's not his work, he cant take credit for it, and therefore he himself is not being funny. It might seem funny if you've never seen Hicks, but one you have you realise Leary is a blatant rip off.

Worst Comedians to me are: Jeff Dunham, Dane Cook, Russell Brand, Noel Fielding & Jim Davidson
These are the only ones that are coming to mind at the moment but there are a lot more

The ones I like are: George Carlin, Bill Hicks, Denis Leary (thats right I like them both),
Richard Pryor, Lewis Black, Eddie Murphy, Eddie Izzard, Bill Bailey, Ed Byrne, Dylan Moran,
Victoria Wood, Rowan Atkinson, Billy Connolly, Steve Hughes, Dara O Briain, Rich Hall, Adam Hills, Al Murray & Lee Evans, again there's a lot more that a like but these are the only ones that came to mind.

So Taxi, Seinfeld, Arrested Development, Mr. Show with Bob and David, Saturday Night Live, The Office, The Daily Show, The Colbert Report, Community, Curb Your Enthusiasm, The Kids in The Hall, Family Guy and Futurama all failed?
