I wouldn't. what would i do, it may be good for the first year or 2 but after that it would just be pointless.

Yes I would love eternal life. Obviously it would have it's drawbacks so I'm assuming that there would be an option for suicide if it was finally desired. Unfortunately I can imagine being unable to retain the hundreds of lifetime's worth of data, which would be very sad. Seeing the progression of society and the world from this point until far into the future would be fascinating however.

Also all those action sequences I've dreamed up in my mind would finally be possible :D

I would like to see the scientific advancements we make far into the future. However if the rest of the human race died it would get pretty lame to be eternally alive. What happens when the sun explodes? Would you just hang out in space? This all sounds implausible to me. ;)

no because at some point or another you are going to be floating through space unable to breath and that would suck monkey nuts.

edit: also if an angel comes down that means there is a heaven and heaven is way better than earth/the universe.

Actually, from the description my family and their priest gave me while trying (unsuccessfully) to imprint religion on me, Heaven sounded really boring. An eternal banquet with all your kin and everyone ever? Not liking my kin all that much I can't imagine spending eternity with them. Especially just eating. Don't get me wrong, I like eating... but for eternity? Christ I think that'd get boring after the first week... I mean I am sure that description was given to starving peasants in the Middle Ages and sounded great, but as someone who comes from a well off post industrial world... no thanks.

On-Topic-
If I was just an Immortal and not playing the Game from Highlander, I'd probably build the resources to leave Earth and explore the Universe until it... does whatever the universe will do when it ends...
well what heaven is like all depends on your sect. Some sects believe that its more like relaxation and everything you want and its fun and there is also food but also its the most perfect thing there is

For some time I have considered the notion of living forever. I used to feel like I wouldn't be able to stand living for eternity with no one I love living on with me. So much suffering, alone. It is terrifying. But recently I've come to the realization that I don't want to die without finding the meaning of it all. If eternity alone is what I have to have to do this, then...well. I suppose only time would tell if the ends justified the means.

Man, such a lot of cynical, unhappy, uncreative, selfish people here. Living forever would be awesome. Sure, you'd have to watch everyone you love die, but you're going to watch a lot of them die anyway, and if you were immortal you'd never have to worry about inflicting that on them.

And yeah, sure, you'd see an unending stream of misery and torment, but you'd also see an unending stream of happiness and people helping each other out. The world isn't all bad you know, and the ratio isn't likely to change much, so I don't see why my opinion of it would either.

And really? Boring? Really? You can't think of anything to do for longer than a hundred or a thousand years? Bah! You don't deserve to live forever then.

Only if I could end my life whenever I wanted. I don't want to float around nothingness after the universe ceases to exist.

If I could choose when I'm ready to die I very much would.

Few thousands years would be great, but then I'd probably want out at some point.

Yeah, I've heard that one, but I was just throwing out the one I heard the most as a kid.

No, sure the death of loved ones would be painful but, with eternal life, would be replaced over and over and soon you'd become apethetic to those whose species you once were, and your endless existance would either be: finding a way to end it, or developing a messiah complex and manipulating the lives of those unfortunate enough to not live forever.

Implying that one would want to live forever, actually implies that they'd have an enjoyable life which is something else entirely. Imagine an endless life for an average person. Go to work daily for most of your life, take saturday and sunday off with the family, go on holiday for the summer, watch your kids grow, watch yourself stay the same, watch your kids and wife pass away before you, rinse and repeat. I somehow doubt it would turn into a Duncan Mcleod-esque kind of epic story..

No, Watching your loved ones die. It would eventually be like living in an eternal hell. You make new friends only to see them get old. Meet new love and see the same fate with him/her. You would possibly even have to deal with an oppressive future or the dreaded apocalypse.

An eternal life is not the best, maybe a long and fulfilling one, but not never-ending.

unless of course I am blast-proof, in which case I would unleash hell on humanity.

Yes, as long as i can end it when i want, just think, the end of the universe, the whole lot just collapses, what happens to you? do you just float around for all eternity? that would be freaking boring, but if that happens, then wtf will happen? damn, now im all confused, if the universe colapses, then time wont exist, life wont exist, will it just be, well, nothing, except you... Unless thats how the big bang happens, the immortal person must cease to exist, therefore im guessing a massive explosion will ensue (SP?) but im going off topic...

You seem to assume that I don't already have that.

But if I was in a mortal predicament I would want it so long as I can still die. Like elves in dungeons and dragons, they just at a certain point stop ageing, they can still die due to wounds but time isn't affected.

I would want eternal life only if everybody I knew and loved did as well.

Hell of a deal.(or is it?)
lol! no. I really don't want to risk us not mastering space travel in the next billion years because that is when the sun expands. That would suck.

Although, I do like the idea of living on Eris.

On second thought I would. I am sure I can get off this rock in a few thousand years

I had this discussion with a girl I know. She's terrified of the idea of death, of simply ceasing to exist once this life is done, yet I relish the idea. I don't really want an afterlife. I'm just not comfortable with the idea of living forever. That seems like too much.

I would like eternal life if others or at least some of the ones I love most could have it. Death is awful, ruins all the dreams we have, make our achievements useless. Of course if the whole universe shrinks into a football sized mega blackhole it would suck, literally, lol.
