I only created an account on Facebook because some girl I was trying to hit on wanted to add me on it! I log in maybe once every 3 months? MySpace maybe once a month. If either started charging it wouldn't really phase me, I'd just stop using them.

I signed up because a friend asked me to. Since then I've just been deluged with 'requests' I think I have over 1000 unanswered ones, but I just dont WANT to'throw a x at someone' or 'send x a virtual drink' and all this, I don't have the time or the inclination, it all feels so artificial when I can just send them a real message thru email or IM. Note I'm not against online socialising or communication, just the level of forced feeling that facebook and the like heaps on me.

So no, I wouldn't pay, although I imagine quite a few people would, it would be a small percentage and I think they're safer sticking to ads, I doubt they could charge more than £20 a year or a couple of pounds a month, and they'd have to add a bunch of new stuff for that, and bring in armies of lawyers and accountants to deal with all the new problems.

The daft thing is, I STILL feel a bit guilty if I do log in, as I see the 1000+ ignored invites to do stuff, despite communicating with the people who sent them, and knowing that in the main, I'm one of a list who just recieved one part of a 'send to all' click.

Ah, I don't need this crap.

Sorry to be so negative, I know people who really love facebook, and might pay a small fee to keep using it.

Well considering I don't use those services even though they are free I doubt very much that making me pay would increase my chances of using them, sorry.

Charging for using internet resources such as that while at the same time running ads and such strikes me as a very bad idea.
This is my opinion.

i rarely use FB. i only go on there if i get an email telling me someone has sent me a message, written on my wall etc so if they started charging to have a profile i would easily come off it.

a friend said fb was gonna start charging which made me wonder if we would be prepared to pay for facebook or other sites like that excluding like alt.com or adultriend finder, u know i mean the nice "clean" sites. if you would be prpared to pay please inform me what you would be prepared to pay, ty for indulging my curiosity.
They said the same thing about MSN/Windows live Messenger, and that was around 2 years ago, chances are he saw it in a chain letter.

Anyway, I do enjoy the benefits of using it for University group work, as it doesn't cost money to send them a message (the social networking comes second, but always a plus) and you can talk to people instantly on the messenger, but then if I didn't have that, I'd always have e-mail...so no.

Besides everything else is copying facebook, so everyone would probably just emigrate to another social Networking site.

I don't even use Facebook or Myspace.

And now we're talking about paying to do so? Ridiculous.

Bear in mind though, I do think it's poison, pure and unadulterated.

Every time I go into the library, EVERYONE is on Facebook....everyone (save for one of my house mates who goes on Bebo, which he said was 'Facebook for five year olds and paedophiles'), and it's a joke. I think if Facebook went down for five days, there would be an influx of murders across the world, while I couldn't give a shit (even if I do use it).

God I thought I was the only human left that didn't have one of those things. Either way I totally agree. God gave you a mouth and eyes use them.
