Err... this might have been a somewhat valid (though fanboy war inducing) question around 1995 but by now the quality of Sonic games (with the exception of a few handheld ones) has degraded horribly and Crash... I wouldn't even know wheter he has appeared in any game recently and if so, I doubt many people still care.

On the other hand: any game with Mario in the title still sells millions, so yeah...

I grew up with Sonic, and still have the most fun playing Sonic games, but as of where they stand today, you just gotta give it to Mario. He's had this "battle" in the bag since the N64 era. Crash was way too late to the party and 3-D hasn't served Sonic very well. Sonic 4 is a step (back) in the right direction (as I will explain in my upcoming user review - coming soon!), but he's gotta play a considerable amount of catch-up to get to the level of sales and sheer recognizability Mario has.

Crash Bandicoot was the first game I ever played and the original series is still a great play for me, my vote goes to him.

Thge first Mario game I ever played was some crappy 3D one that I just forgot about. Plus every character in the Mario universe pisses me off for different reasons.

Sonic, meh I just ignore him.

Although seriously why isn't Spyro on this list?

From the list there, I'm going with Mario as his games are atleast consistently good.
Crash goes second as, while his games were great and the characters were fun, he died along with Spyro =*(
Never been a Sonic fan so he's going to go third.

I'd like to see more Rayman games aswell, you know WITHOUT the fucking Rabbids!
