This series appears to be better for making parodies than for entertainment.

I'd say its pretty bloody good at doing both.

Is it some sort of ironic hipsterism or is this something anime does to people?

Nothing ironic about it. The new My Little Pony show (subtitled Friendship is Magic), is genuinely GOOD.

...I know, I was surprised too. Just check out a couple episodes. It's funny, well-written, pleasant to look at, and wonderfully voiced. It's the complete package.

What have you got to lose by checking it out?

I've seen a couple of the audio overlays and found them highly amusing, but that was it until this thread. Then I stumbled into the Sonic Rainboom video linked earlier, and as a longtime Guile fan it was over. Watched part of an episode and so far I'm liking it because there are underlying puns (telling the cows to "steer clear") and because, quite frankly, it's very happy, and there's not enough of that around.

As for my fave, it is real hard to choose just one. Dash's design is just really fun, Fluttershy is adorable, Twilight is my inner sarcasm and bookworm, AJ is like some of my family (I'm southern), Rarity's reactions are awesome, and Pinkie is well Pinkie. I definitely get the best laughs from Pinkie though.
