With the exception of number 3 (Which was just sorta Meh) I've loved ever Cod game I've played, it's a military FPS done about as right as you can possibly get. I haven't played MW2 but from what I've heard most of the problems stem from the single player being extremly short and not being as good as the first Modern Warfare (I haven't played it so I have no opinion), as well as the multiplayer being full of assholes and cheating bastards who exploit the game to get an unfair edge.

Hate it, because of the people that play it.

Elitists ranting about nuke counts and k/d ratios. They also think CoD is the shit, and the only shit.

Because of this, everything turned overpriced and overated.

I only hate Modern Warfare 2. And here's why
The game is completely unbalanced, no dedicated servers and every PC gamers knows how important they are in PC world, small amount of players on maps, bland atmosphere, cheaters, level hackers, unfair noobs with grenade launchers, thumpers and RPG's. Killstreak rewards that ruin the entire concept of multiplayer FPS game, not being able to chose maps and make other tweaks like normal people, stopping power perk and no juggernaut perk to balance it, SMG's are completely unbalanced, kids screaming in your ears the whole time, campers everywhere, and I mean everywhere. I remember playing one round where no one but me moved. They all found camping spots and they didn't want to move at all! All of those issues could have been fixed with simple addition of dedicated servers.

I enjoyed the COD series and I think a main contributing factor to this would be that if I ever touched the multi-player I'd either be with a bunch of friends in a party or be on my own/with some friends and mute everyone in the lobby. I stayed away from the single player... why? Because in my mind every first person shooters single players grey uninteresting storyline doesn't really appeal to me, if I wanted a compelling or interesting story I just have to look into another genre. On the other hand if I want a mindless fun filled experience with some real life friends or friends met in other games COD is the place to go.

The series has so many flaws, the community in general is just horrible, and I wouldn't touch the single player with a barge poll but since I base the liking of a game simply on the enjoyment factor COD would have to be pretty high up there. I understand why lots of people despise the series, a game shouldn't be held up by multi-player alone (There are some exceptions, Left 4 Dead comes to mind) and the poor support by Infinity Ward (Although I did enjoy there games more than Treyarchs) but honestly sometimes people pry into a game to much to find out whether they like it or not. A game doesn't have to be perfect to be fun, hell I think COD proves that a game doesn't even need to be adequate to be fun...

Hate it or love it, you gotta admit sitting in the same corner with 5 other people using riot shields is a great way to spend the weekend.

Cod4 was an amazing game, because it kept you entertained throughout the entire single player campaign. It's multiplayer was also the most balanced of all the CoD's. W@W came along, and did most of what CoD4 did, just not as well. MW2 took what CoD4 did, and turned it onto full power, completely burning away everything good out of it.

Its been great. Every installment made leaping innovations (except for the treyarch titles, which was kind of holding the series back), and Black Ops is looking pretty exciting.

I know for sure gun enthusiasts and some gamers with different tastes hate on the series with religious devotion.

Typically, I hate Call of Duty, Modern Warfare 2 for a number of the ham handed story elements that were mentioned in Zero Punctuation (America seems to get nuked a lot lately . . .). But my greatest reason for hating MW2 is the fact that as soon as you get onto multiplayer, every other player has 30+ levels easily and has the majority of cheap gun modifications on their favorite guns. I can't remember the number of times I was killed when I had borrowed the game from a friend, by jack asses who had thermal scoped weapons when I had yet to unlock ANYTHING.
Giving me an average life span of about . . . 12 seconds.
Ooooor when just starting and getting spammed by kill-streak galore (missiles, etc.) and no matter what no one did the objective and decided "IMMA GO GET ME SOME KILL-STREAKIN, HERPPADERP!" while me and the other person that actually cares are getting shot to hell and outnumbered 6-2. After a while I went to just playing multiplayer with my friends because they don't do that shit.

I'll admit it folks, I LOVED MW1. That got the formula right. Soon after I got MW2 and liked it AT FIRST, then I just decided, ITS NOT WORTH IT. Months later, I got WaW and showed me that CoD still has hope.

Used to love the series, went downhill since COD 3 in my opinion. Its all about 'prestige' and kill/death ratios now.
I can tell you lots about a guy I knew who was HOOKED on MW2. I remember him saying;
"OMFG, you have had the game for 2 months and you haven't priestiged yet?! N00B! I have had the game for 2 DAYS, and i've priested TWICE."

I
DONT
GIVE
A
FUCKING
SHIT.

After a month of MW2, I said (read above!)
I hope Black Ops doesn't fuck up. God, PLEASE DONT FUCK IT UP!

BOTH, I love the game, but hate whoever at infinity ward didn't give us dedicated servers. As a consequence the multiplayer can be very fun, or it can be a cake of feces with urine jelly. Now if you will excuse me I have to start my shift at the worlds most awful dessert shop.

The more "realistic" style of shotters like CoD just doesn't appeal to me. Sure they're not "realistic" compared to games like ARMA, Ghost Recon, and America's Army, but I come from the age of Doom and Unreal Tournament. I like my shooters fast and twitchy ^_^.

I enjoy it, it's the first FPS that I could play without throwing the remote across the room. I attribute that to the highly cinematic feel. I also enjoy online play with friends and some random people. My biggest complaint is the same as most I've heard; I can't stand the bigots or the juvenile (especially if those acting in either manner are under 18).
There is just something highly annoying about a 12 year old berating you like marine drill sargent.

The reason is simple...this is the internet, so people phrase their opinions in a more extreme manner. If they dislike something popular, then how much they hate it or think it's overrated will come up pretty frequently.

Anyway, I don't exactly love the franchise, but I enjoy the occasional 1v1 match with my brother. It's fun.

Depise it.

It bores me, it doesn't interest me and because of how popular such a horrible game can be.
