Your poll isnt working. so you know.

Now, to your question. i think people confuse it with screamo, and even then its not hate its just dislike. I personally dont care for meta, and most bands that like to say they're metal arent really metal, since metal is just an industrial form of rock. Its the harder version of hard rock.

Besides it all sounds the same really, and its never seems that different. But thats just me. I'm more of a grunge/rock/alt. rock kinda guy.

It annyos me when your wrong for listening to anything other than mainstream, its like they have to take the piss out of you because you dont listen to rap or anything like that

I dont mind what you listen to, so why do you have to moan because mines different from yours?
Double standard bastards, simple as that. It annoys me to no end how they constantly shove their music down your throat, but when you suggest some of yours then it's "Why do you listen to such Garbage?" and with that I retort with a BOOT TO THE HEAD!

Secondly to all the Metal Lovers, LISTEN TO THE EPICNESS OF DEATH METAL THAT IS AZATHOTH!

Perhaps. I'm not going to say ALL metal is great. I personally can't stand screamo (which is different) but the metal I listened to was uplifting and inspired me. ManOwaR was one of those bands, a band I like extremely.
Well I still listen to, and really enjoy, Rage Against the Machine. I think they are great.
However with ManOwaR (which I just checked out), the music itself is alright, but that whole image of black leather and the dark scenery, well, it's not just the sort of band I want to listen to.

I was probably listening to different sort of metal to you, SlipKnot strike me now as more Emo/Screamo than "pure" metal. Whereas ManOwaR are more uplifting, like you said.
Unfortunately now all metal sounds the same to me, and it's just boring to listen to.

I cannot hold that against you. I find many songs of other gendres, hip-hop, pop, country seem to have that effect on me.

I hate Metal because I think it sounds terrible, but I don't hate Metalheads. I'm not in-your-face about it, I just separate myself from all Metal.

I had a very heated conversation recently with a man who a grudge against Heavy Metal. Being a metalhead I was angered inside that he could hate my music but still heard him out because I'm not a closed minded zealot. I don't blame him for not having the specific taste to like my music but he didn't even hate it because of how it sounded. He was basing the entire gendre of music on one person's experience. Apparently his brother was depressed, was pressured into listening to the music and it drove him to the brink of suicide. Now it's totally understandable that he doesn't like it but not for those reasons. But one he blamed the state of mind of his brother on it when it was clearly his brother, depression and the people he knew before that caused it. With me it was vice-versa. I was already on the brink of suicide and had no will or reason to live. I went to a heavy metal concert and it opened my eyes to a new world, mainly because for once I was kicking life in the ass, for lack of a better term. It made me a whole new person and gave me the will to live again along with a new outlook on life. But I also like it for the way it sounds and that in loving it i've found people who accept me, I found a place. But it struck me that more people than just him dislike or plainly hate my music. So why do people like the music they like? It's obviously not solely based on the way it's sounds anymore?
Most people I know actually like it except me. I don't like Heavy metal because personally...well personally it sounds like crap to my ears. I don't get why people think a guy who plays the drums ridiculously fast produces good music in the process. I won't be angry at people who do like it, but it just doesn't sound good to me.

It could be just the music, it could be the stereotypes people have associated heavy metal with (regardless if they are right or wrong) but rational and hatred often don't mix. Irrational hatred is so common it's almost sickening. I wouldn't take it personally, but I wouldn't get angry at them either. For the example you provided, you made a clear example of irrational hatred... But you can't really get angry about it can you? His brother nearly killed himself after all. That makes it purely an emotional response, not a rational one.

I suggest treating all this kind of hatred like this until proven otherwise, or it will lead you into many arguments where you look like the bad guy.

His brother didn't die. Brink of suicide means almost killed himself. Brink means the edge of.

Oh sorry, read it too fast. Still, I think my point still stands that just treat the hate as emotional and not rational and it makes more sense. Still wrong, but hey, in my experience emotion nearly always beats logic when it comes to people.

I appreciate the effort that goes into making it, and love the whole epic badassery of metal bands, but I don't really find the sound that enjoyable.

I just really dig what this dude has to say about it, not really the same context but still about music and influence and what not.

Don't listen to too much metal myself, nowadays I'm more of a punk person. But I can still sit around sometimes and feel like, "Dammit it's time for some good old power metal!" and really appreciate it n' shit.

In the end it's like we say here back in Sweden; "The taste is like the bum, split!"

Well, metal isn't really mainstream here in the UK, which is a shame, as this is the country of its birth. As you may or may not know, any niche activity that 'nerds' might enjoy is usually considered ripe for ridicule (Yes, I know that such sentiments fail hard at logic, but a lot of stereotypes are like that). Plus, personal choice and so on.

Myself I personally cannot roll with the growly/screamy stuff that gets bounced around a lot. Very unappealling.

I'm gonna throw this out there right now. If you really want symphonic music with good lyrics I reccomend power metal. Sabaton, ManOwaR and Hammerfall would be examples of this.
