I love people pointing out the failures of text on a forum.
It seems ironic to me.

Ever since I got a call from an ex that was 7 minutes long, and had precisely 4 minutes of conversation in it, I have known the plus of texting. you can wait until you have something to say to say something. you can say nothing.
Incidentally the same ex (that i dumped) invited me to go to a peter andre concert in 9 months time, then retracted the offer when i pretended i had a girlfriend just to get rid of her. I could not stop laughing.

I hate texting, I'm talking to someone and I look away for a sec, when I look back they're texting and then they turn to me and say "Huh? What were you saying?"

This may be waaaay off topic but I am still kicking myself over never watching this show! Every clip I see of The Boondocks gets me laughing, why did no one ever alert me of its existence until long after it left?
Season 3 is coming May 2, 2010. Now you know.
Ah thanks for saying that I've been wanting to know when the third season would come out.

Now I know (and knowledge is power)!

Didn't think about that. That is pretty ironic.

It's easier a lot of the time because I don't always want to talk to people. Most of the time all I have to say can be contained in one small text, not wasting minutes on a phone call. If it's something in-depth I will call.

I just do it because I can think out what I'm going to say much better than if I just blurted it out; I'm very awkward on the phone.

texts are actually less expensive for the phone co's than actual calls. thus i text as little as possible because they charge you less for phone calls.

I mostly text while in class or when I can't call the other person. Or when I only need to tell them a small sentence that isn't worth calling them over.

I don't use it. Period. It's a step back in communication. We have gotten to the point where you can send a live video feed across the world over the internet to communicate. It's now so cheap to hold a live audio conversation that the cellphone has become ubiquitous. Texting is a throw back to older communication skills. If we need asynchronous communication, we can get emails which can more easily transfer other data, like pictures and programs. This we can also get on cellphones at a similar level as the constant voice communication. Texting is nothing more than a way to gouge for more money to use an archaic communication method. Unfortunately my friends text me, so I have the old style AOL dial up sound effect for my incoming texts.
You my friend have read my mind, texting on the phone is making people weaker in verbal communication since they are so use to thinking of what to say before a reply, in real life there's no waiting for a reply.

We use a almost free IM thingy for your phone, it's called MXit. If that counts at texting, then yeah I text quite a lot.

I hate talking on the phone. yea, you can say it in 10 secs, but maybe thats a bad thing?
Texting allows for a conversation to last longer, alleivating some boredom. its easier to do while watchin tv or playing games. allows for more time to come up with better responses and overall better conversations. just my opinion and trying to justify it, but really
I HATE TALKING ON THE PHONE. lol

Because I have unlimited texting but set minutes, also, I never text people if I can go up to them and tell them whatever i'm gonna text. It's a great way to start a conversation and talk to people casually.

Its good for flirting, much easier than on the phone.

Allso allows you to plan what you want to say.

Why do people text? It's cheaper than calling, usually.

In general, I take the time beforehand to figure out which option will be most cost effective. One text, or phone conversation.

It is fairly easier and faster to text someone and the get a message across then spending 30 minutes finding a valid signal, dialing the number, and getting a hold of the person just to tell them "i'm almost there"

I never use my phone unless I'm out somewhere, most my friends are online if I need to talk to them.

I'm always texting. At least every other hour I'm awake. I enjoy talking to my wonderful girlfriend and friends. But I do not text and drive. That's plain sillies!

I text almost exclusively at work, they don't let you talk on your phone (it's too loud anyway) but noblody cares about texts. Otherwise only if I have just one sentance I want to communicate
