I notice that a lot of people don't treat fish as a meat and why is that? I know some vegetarians that eat fish but that is strange to say the least, they became a vegetarian because they think it's cruel to kill and eat animals so why isn't it cruel to kill and eat fish. Is it because they look like they are dead even when they are alive. Also I was up at 4 o'clock in the morning and I saw a program and somebody said "I'm tired of all this meat I wan to have some fish". This has been bothering me for a long time could somebody explain to me why fish aren't counted as meat to some people.

edit: I don't mean fish in dietary terms because there are a lot of nutrient difference from most meat but just in general.

edit edit: Can I just say wild fish are not stupid you can teach fish to do tricks. When a fish is kept in a fish bowl without being thought tricks they don't learn anything and there for there memory quickly deteriorate. Also emotions don't take a brain but instinct except complex ones that a brought around due to guild which needs a moral system which does take a brain (or any other feeling that has do to with morals).

This happened at a wedding reception. My dad's a vegetarian and when he told the waitress that he was a vegetarian. So she asked if he wanted fish. This left all of us dumfounded.

Anyways, i dont know why? I think it should be.

Meat is the flesh of an animal, and last time I checked, fish are animals. While fish generally looks and tastes differently than land animal meat, it's still meat nontheless.

The correct term is "pescatarian." I'm one of them, and they might as well just admit it.

In my experience it has always been "vegetarians" attempting to justify themselves.

Don't know.. I know my girlfriend doesn't eat meat, but eats fish. Her family is quite an old fashioned one, animal corpses probably put her off.

Because it lives unders the sea so obviously it can't be a meet, faw faw faw faw faw...

But seriously, it's a meat. I feel more sorry for killing fish than I do for a lot of animals. Don't ask why, I'm strange...

bob: "well frank it's simple it doesn't have eyebrows"
frank: "oh well that reasonable I guess I should tell people about this"

If he eats fish he is not a vegetarian.

If you eat fish you're not a vegetarian, you're a pescatarian. I suspect the reason that some people don't consider it to be meat is a remnant of religious doctrine regarding meat being forbidden on Friday but fish still being allowed. The wider vegetarian community considers fish to be meat.

It's incredibly annoying when people call themselves vegetarian when they're in fact pescatarian. It perpetuates the misconception that vegetarians aren't willing to stick with their convictions and maintain a diet devoid of meat.

Fish = meat because:

Fish =/= vegetable
Fish =/= mineral
Fish =/= liquid

I don't see what else fish could be so I'll stick with meat until a new classification can surface for it.
