I hate it because I just find it bad. Most of it does little to nothing for me. I don't like those techno and dance sounding fake artificial sounds that much. I tolerated the extremely artificial sounding songs with Dragon Force for a bit. When the shit like dance gets played in gyms and stuff I want to smash the managers head open off a speaker. Yes I get it most people like it but some don't. It's like playing music on your phone on a bus you want to hear it everyone else doesn't. This why Apple invent the iPod and other companies have other MP3s so you can listen to YOUR MUSIC whenever you want. Instead of pumping the shit through gyms and bused. So that is why I hate it too.

A lot of the music considered 'popular' I find to be like the Wii's shovelwear. Its put out to make some money, without much real thought or even much heart behind it. Music has to have heart. Think about it, music has always been at the forefront of cultural change. Rock and Roll, Punk, Heavy Metal. All these gave something to a generation and caused changes in the thinking of society. What does today's music give us? A tune to dance too? Hardly the same is it.

Oi... well, this thread could

I hate rap because as of yet, it's all about money and hoes and bitches and hoes and "I'm so hood" and hoes etc. .
indeed.

in a perfect world, enjoying rap would instakill you, and making it would instakill you, AND guarantee your going to hell.

i hayt it.
So every Hip Hop song ever made is about money and hoes and bitches, and you've heard every Hip Hop song in order to make such a claim.

And don't get me started on the "Enjoying Rap would instakill you". That might just be the most idiotic thing I've heard in awhile.

hip hop and rap are diff-- oh i cant say that with a straight face.

anyway, yes, yes it is. its either "im a gangster!" or some "im right, your wrong" bullshit

find me ONE rap song that isn't like this.

also, every douchebag ive ever met gushed about rap, football, or cock jokes when he wasn't, you know, being a douchebag. its like, a law, or something. i search for patterns.
This is rap, no?

I call it reconstituted no effort immitation music.
However! There may be music theory, there may be like techniques but at the end of the day if people enjoy the songs/noise then its music doing its job right.
You don't have to like it so don't be such a snob :p

most popular music these days has no talent. sure, SOME singers are talented but now most ppl use computers to make music and rarely play instruments. an obvious exception to this are most bands but rap and hip hop prove my point perfectly.

I agree with you but feel I should first say I don't think all rap/hiphop (hehe) is about crap, I work in community theatre and some of the people who participate in our workshops rap and its always positive. A genre doesn't dictate an attitude.

On the other hand rap/hiphop (hehe) is usually just men comparing nob size, being horrible to women and acting like toddlers. Douchebags will also talk about how much money their parents make - which is hilarious and ironic.

I listen to music I like, even if it is 'popular music'. More often than not though, it isn't. I don't hate popular music, I hate the image it makes for itself and tries to imprint on people.

Pop music is A; Homogenised beyond despair. There is simply no room for anything that doesn't apply to that apathetic group of people who just listen to whatever is on radio 1. and B: Simply shit. I don't listen to pop music because it's just terrible. tinie tempa, tinchy strider, Will.i.am... it's not my sort of music.

I hate it because it doesnt have heart and soul. Granted a few songs are real thought out and have meaning but most songwriters are thinking with their sexual organs.

It blocks the potential for other music to be heard, just because radio station think that listeners will only listen to pop.

I would like to sit down and listen to a nice mix of music for once, not about 50 pop songs with a few r'n'b and dance tunes mixed in, and every now and then they stick a rock song on.

Think about how many great songs from the other genres don't get heard because of whats "popular now"

I would like to be like other people in here that "treat all music equally". But i cant be bothered with searching for the gems, when 99% of it = shit.

so until it gets better, i hate it for "all the above reasons".

Where's the option for "I don't hate it at all?"

It makes up 90% of what I listen to. I don't listen to it because it's popular, I listen to it because I like it. One of my favorites is Lady Gaga, and I saw her in concert a few months ago, she was awesome.

On the other hand a lot of people who hate popular music just hate it because it's popular. some have their good reasons too (though the reasons are always completely subjective however much people want to believe they can prove Pop music is bad factually) and in my opinion avoiding something just because other people like it is extremely childish and much worse than people who just pretend to like it to be cool (which are a much smaller minority)

Thread creator is a knob. Why not have an option that says "Actually, I do like popular music"?
