I was thinking about what games I should preorder for this fall, and since I don't want to empty my pockets on all of them. Ultimately, I decided to preorder Dead Island first because one, it comes out in 2 weeks. Two, the trailers were amazing. So, why do you pre-order games?

EDIT: Another question: What has been your favorite pre-order bonus?

To add to this, I pre-order a ton because it's easier for me to come up with 60 dollars over a few months then at once.

Two words, Pre-order bonuses.

No other reason, the games wont be impossible to find on launch day if you didn't pre-order.

As of this posting, I have only pre-ordered two games; Dragon Quest IX and Xenoblade Chronicles (Yes, it's getting a release in Europe!). Why have I preordered these games? Because am utterly, utterly convinced that these games were MADE FOR ME. I wasn't wrong abut Dragon Quest IX in the slightest (it is officially my most favourite RPG I've played so far), only time will tell if Xenoblade Chronicles will also live up to this.

So yeah, good trailers.

It's a combination of most of the reasons in the poll, but frankly it's vastly influenced by the extra goodies.

Hmm depends on the game. I think I still see some Dues Ex Augmented Editions still on the shelves. Of course, you can always buy them on Ebay for a much higher price.

Usually I preorder if I'm fairly certain that the game is going to be really good, and there's either a preorder bonus, or a preorder discount (mostly happens on steam).

I really liked the Halo pre-order bonuses, but the Assassns Creed bonuses seemed.... lacking to me for some reason.

I recently pre-ordered Saint's Row 3 and, Skyrim from Play-N-Trade. Preorder bonuses are cool but I mainly did it to support the business. Right across the street from them is a Gamestop but I strongly prefer PnT because they've got better customer service, they repair games and consoles and, they're been my main source of Xbox (original) SNES and, N64 games and, equipment.

Free shit, mostly. I ordered Deus Ex: Human Revolution for no other reason than the TF2 glasses and the five dollar cut. I'm thinking of pre-ordering Arkham City for Robin. I am going to order Space Marine for the chance at winning that furking sword. I pre-ordered... that game... for the Halo 3 Beta.

If they didn't give me free shit there's a halfway decent chance I'd never buy the games. So I guess it works.

The only real justification is pre-order bonuses.

Sure, if you don't, you might miss out on playing the game on day one, but really, the pre-order bonus is the reason it makes it worth while.

Otherwise, you'd keep the money in your bank account, earn interest, then when the game comes out it costs marginally less. Assuming, you can get your hands on a copy (depending on the game itself).

I will sometimes preorder a game if it is one I have been following and I am looking forward to simply because it is fun. As far as my favorite preorder bonus. I hate them. I don't think they should exist.
ESPECIALLY store specific bonuses.

I pre-order if I like the developer, the franchise, for bonuses and to get the game relatively early. I rarely pre=order based off of previews alone because they can be very misleading.
