One reason. I really want the game. I have pre ordered games I've only just heard heard things about so I would get them as early as possible. Saints Row The Third was a game I pre-ordered as soon as Steam would let me. Of course the bonus content did its part. I kinda wish I had pre-ordered Deus Ex, but I didn't think I was going to enjoy it. Oh, I was wrong.

I usually only do it for games I am eagerly waiting for to help illustrate how high demand is for a certain game. It helps (in a small way) steer the industry in a direction I want it to go.

As far as my favorite preorder bonus. I hate them. I don't think they should exist.
ESPECIALLY store specific bonuses.
Ohhh, good point. Normally I choose the gamestop bonus, but that's just me.

Usually if there is a nice bonus or I want a special edition, the games shops here tend to sell out of them fast but as long as I get up on time it's not hard to get a normal one on launch day.

Pre-ordered Warhammer 40,000 Space Marine since it's gonna be the best game this year and got a copy of Darksiders and an enhanced Blood Ravens skin for use in multiplayer. Of course I didn't set my hopes high for Darksiders but it was free and it's hard to complain against free things.

Since I don't pre-order unless it's a game a REALLY want, the pre-order bonuses are just a fringe benefit to having the game available 1st day. When i want a game enough to pre-order, it means that I just can't wait the extra week or so I'd have to wait if I didn't pre-order it and all of them were gone, which they usually are.

The only game I intend to pre-order is Tales of Graces. To date I have played all the mothership titles in the Tales series(roughly 13 games) and haven't been disappointed once.

Honestly? I don't trust myself with money. I'm kind of a fiscal dumbass. If I didn't pre-order Skyrim or Mass Effect 3, I'd blow my money on seeing Rock 'Em Sock 'Em Robots and eating lunch at Quizno's everyday.

I do like little bonuses for pre-orders, though.

For a while the only reason was because it was an Assassin's Creed game, but now I preordered BF3 and MW3 from Newegg because they were about $10 off. Also Bf3 had a preorder bonus and all my friends will have MW3.

It's a combination of good presentation in trailers, appealing pre-order bonuses, possibly physical goodies and, most of all, positive prior contact with the franchise, i.e. it's a sequel to a game I loved, or I'm a fan of the game's subject matter. (For example, games like Batman: Arkham Asylum and Warhammer 40.000: Space Marine were pretty much instant pre-orders for me.)

Probably a combination of the things you listed, with the exception of "sequel to a game I like." That's not really a factor. If it's made by a developer that has made good games, then I'll buy it, but simply being a sequel does nothing for a game.

If it cheaper or I get a nice little bonus, and its a game I'm definitely going to get. I do also have a little soft spot for developers I like so I preorder as kind of a "I support your efforts, here's my guaranteed purchase even though it hasn't come out"

I don't preorder I've to this day never pre ordered a game and very rarely do I buy a new game with in the first week of it's release. Mainly because you never know if what you're ordering will be a buggy mess and how well it will be supported. Plenty of games on the PC never got patches simply because once the game was released the devs took a few months break, the game flopped and they didn't take any time to patch it afterwards.

Because of the swag. Seriously, if you're going to get the game within a week of release anyway, you might as well pre-order to get a few extra goodies.

I have a couple of friends who don't believe in pre-ordering. Though one I can understand because he is completely convinced that pre-ordering games costs extra money. The other guy just doesn't see the point.

While I do take most of the poll options into account, one of my main reasons for pre-ordering is because at the time I have money to pre-order the game, this may not be the case when the game comes out, so I pre-order knowing that I'm guaranteed a copy when it's released and I don't have to worry whether or not I'll have money however long down the road it is when the game is released.

I pre-ordered Monado: Beginning of the World, for no other reason than I felt that Nintendo should be rewarded for taking Operation: Rainfall's cajoling to heart. Maybe they'll give us The Last Story and that other one next. Fingers crossed.

Pre-order bonuses for sure! I can never judge a game by its cover (or trailers for that matter).
The latest game I decided to pre-order was Catherine simply because it included a CD with the soundtrack and I love Shoji Meguro's music. :D

I like paying it off before it comes out. Then I feel like I'm getting it for free. :D Also, I like a guaranteed copy. ALSO, if I know I'm going to like the game (Like Mass Effect 3) I preorder it. The bonuses are icing on the cake. :)

Usually for pre-order bonuses and my chance to actually get the collectors edition without forking over anus loads of money to people on Ebay.
