Your brain is like your virginity, use it or lose it. If you don't read, your brain athrophies and you start calling people much older than you the N word in internet games.

Entertainment I guess.

Why would I read anything that wasn't entertaining? (fuck text books. Learning can be fun)

Secondly, I mainly read Graphic Novels, Manga, regular Novels and short stories.

What about an "all of the above" option? When I read the Donald Duck magazine, it's for entertainment (don't diss it, Donald Duck is fucking awesome). When I read magazines about my interests, it's usually for both 'intellectual stimulation' and 'to be challenged', which are quite close together anyway.

School makes me read a lot more than I read on my own. I only read the opening credits to Star Wars otherwise.

I believe Bill Hicks put it best when he said, 'Why do I read? Hmmm...I guess there are a lot of reasons, one of them being so I don't end up as a fucking waffle waitress'.

I mostly read Science Fiction and Fantasy stuff. Sometimes Thrillers as well. Purely for entertainment.

The funny thing is, the more I have to read, the less I actually read. Back when I was young I read a lot, then I got a bit older and I had to do book reports and stuff I didn't read anything I didn't absolutely have to read, and now that all that I over I read a lot again.

History books. Nothing too intense however; the writer needs to be able to write well, such as Niall Ferguson or Richard J. Evans. I hate reading through books which are absolute are essentially just the facts and terribly written...

To challenge myself if I have nothing else to do.

The only book I "couldn't" read was The Silmarillion. I got about half way through, but there's 300 characters all with very similar names and all related to each other through, what would appear to be, mass incest. And the sentence structure was often a ***** to follow, meaning I had to read every line at least twice.

So technically I read the first half twice; we'll just count that as me having read it.

The Hobbit is fantastic though.

I'd guess I'd say a combination of "To expand my mind" and "For entertainment". I tend to read a lot of Sci-Fi books that give interesting thought about the morals of the future, especially stuff like Isaak Asimov's robot stories.

Tend to stay away from Factual books or fiction based in the modern day (dramas, thrillers, etc).

Also, I have Dyslexia, and use to read horribly slowly, I can read and write pretty fast now, and I like to think thats a combination of the extra tuition I got, and that I read whenever humanly possible these days :)

A mixture of entertainment, purely for my own enjoyment - but as well as this I use it to stimulate my brain, I enjoy reading books that require a bit of independent thought on the part of the reader.

I read loads. I try and read one factual and then one fictional, but it does not always work out like that.

I read for entertainment, and I mostly read fantasy and science fiction books.

My favourite book series so far is DragonLance.
