I don't hate the game, I'm just sick of hearing about it, seeing it everywhere, and seeing its name in 3 out of 5 topics here. You don't have to go into those threads to know what they're about.
You know how every September, someone goes "Oh gawd another CoD thread?!" and how every now and then we get the "Does there need to be this many MLP threads?"? That's Mass Effect 3 right now.
I never thought I could dislike a series that I've never played as much as I dislike Mass Effect. And it isn't even really the game. It's the fucking fans. I get it, Mass Effect is your second coming of Jesus. Now shut the hell up about it before I give you your disk in suppository form. Which you'd probably enjoy because you love the game that much.
I'm enjoying it so far. Haven't gotten to the end yet though, so my opinion may change. There are only a few complaints I have so far:
1. Jessica Chobot looks like a chipmunk.
2. Certain side missions on the Citadel can bypass the beginning or middle parts if you don't talk to certain NPCs, ending the quest with cutscenes where you go "WTF, what's going on and why is that person dead?!"
3. Falling through the floor in multiplayer
REALLY??? They did that? I was pissed enough as it is with letting her live, getting a nice little reminder that they are doing alright in ME2 only to meet them in ME3. I mean really? Seems 'extinct' is a term Bioware has not fully understand.
Oh my only real beef with this game at the moment right now is the disk changes.
I am always prompted to switch from Disk 1 or Disk 2 on the Xbox 360.

I love the game actually and I'm like 17 hours in. I don't like how EA and maybe even Bioware has acted with the DLC and such, but the game is one of my favourites.
Haven't got it yet, it'll be one of the games I pick up during my summer vacation.
From what I hear aside from general Escapist bitching, it isn't too bad. I AM annoyed by the Tali thing and I just know the ending is gonna be crap... One man VS Army of Giant Adamantium Armageddon Ships, Unless they can assemble Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann in that time you just know the ending is going to be some kind of cop out. Nowhere near Red Faction: Armageddon bad but still disappointing.
Anyway, I must refurbish, replaster and reseal my anti-spoiler dome. The Tali face almost destroyed it and it needs to be in fully working order to survive the four month period. Gotta make one last supply run...
Pretty much what the subject line states. To clarify, although there are problems and fan rage for things like the Tali's face = stock photograph incident that I completly agree with, for the most part I am really enjoying Mass Effect 3 and cannot wrap my head around all of the ungodly amounts or rage. Enlighten me
Edit: Sorry this is my first forum posting and apparently I did horribly with the poll
The series has moved so far away from what Mass Effect 1 was, and fans of the first game are pissed. Mass Effect 1 was pretty much Baldur's Gate with guns. Baldur's Gate. with guns. And now it's more like Gears of War with sex. People are pissed because they feel like Mass Effect went from nearly an indie game to an EA money grab.
I want post spoilers but its so bad that it ruined not only the game but the series.
I uninstalled ME3 and am never going to touch it again as long as I live.
Unless the patch the ending like Broken Steel did with Fallout 3, I wont even touch it again.
Yeah I am pissed about Tali's face being a stock photo, yes I am pissed how FemShep's LI choice was tossed into a combine and lit on fire.
But...I loved 9/10 of ME3.
I honestly loved how they did Shepard and how the world was set up.
As far as I am concerned this was Bioware's biggest insult to its players who invested long term.
I bought Mass Effect 1, 2, and 3 all within a week of their releases.
I played for the long haul.
And that is all I got.
To quote Samuel L: "Yes I hate him (Bioware) and I hope they burn in hell"
I don't hate ME3. I am indifferent to the game series. If I played it right now, I probably would feel nothing towards it. The ending would probably mean nothing to me, no matter how out of left field it is. I cannot get emotionally attached to a mannequin, which my avatar in the game would feel like. But I don't hate the game for existing, or for anything else.
Back to the point, just because you read on some forums out there that some 4chan idiots who hate certain aspects of the game, whether its because the launch day DLC is already on disc, the stock photo BS, or the ending itself, it does not mean everyone else in the gaming community cares either that much or at all. There are a lot of us who go, wow "the ending looks like a painting, cool" then goes back to playing the game.
Playing the first Mass Effect was incredible, a solid game in all aspects. I know people has issues with certain things, like the inventory system and the Mako planet roving parts, but ultimately the game was excellent. Then Bioware got brought under the EA banner, and this is where I started to see the "spirit", for lack of a better term, of the developer start to diminish. Mass Effect 2 was chopped down, the ability for customization of your weapons and abilities was scaled back greatly. Instead of improving on the game they already had, it's like they took the basic design of the game and changed it completely on its core level. Sure the dialogue system worked the same and combat was a little tighter, but it was the feeling of the game that had somehow changed. The synthesizer infused music of the first was replaced with some basic orchestrated work, the feeling of going down to the surface with the Mako, being in the vacuum of space, was replaced with a mining mini-game. For these reasons (and others as I would like to keep my post relatively short) I'm actually kind of afraid to play Mass Effect 3, because I feel it will resemble some false, dopple-ganger of the game I loved and actually not be it, at all.
Doesn't mean some of the criticisms are not valid. Seriously, the day one DLC was a bonehead move for EA/Bioware. I'm not saying people should work for free, but when you fuck up on that scale (including some of the day one DLC files on the disk, when you said you were working on it till the "last moment") is a pretty stupid mistake.
I'm not saying the level of furor is appropriate, or that all criticisms were/are legit, but you cannot write it all off that way.
I don't hate ME3. I hate the business practices of Bioware/EA for money-gouging.
But I wasn't planning on getting ME3 to begin with. The story is cool and all, and ME1 was great, but I can't imagine playing through the sequel or the third iteration after how long and in depth the first one was.
Edit: While I think that the Tali thing and the endings are really immature and incredibly lazy for a developer to do, they wouldn't break the game for me. Well, the ending might, but not Tali's face. I'd be pissed, to be sure, but I wouldn't ditch a series I loved just because the developers got lazy on a girl's face.

First and most importantly they boiled every conversation down to two choices. All the dialog choices are either good or bad and the kicker is that most of the time they both have the same meaning, you're just picking whether or not you're happy or angry Shepard.
It's like Bioware just assumed that everyone who played the first two games went straight Paragon or straight Renegade. which I never did once. In fact I even have a Shepard who always picked the neutral option. I can't play him in Mass Effect 3 because even if I did import him he wouldn't be the same character.
Secondly you can't import faces. I want to know how they got the game out of the door with that critical of a glitch. It's sickening that I've spend around 100 hours on defining Shepard's personality and not only do I have to boil their personality down to "good guy" or "angry guy" They can't even look the same. (I'm willing to forgive and forget with an expedient patch)
Shepard died and got rebuilt by a terrorist organization and they came out of that more intact then spending a few months on Earth.
challenge is great, frustration brought on by things out of my control sucks
Third. the combat sucks. Let me elaborate
1) the enemies constantly lob grenades at you making cover practically irrelevant.
2) The controls DO NOT WORK Don't say I'm wrong putting run, take cover, jump over cover, barrel roll and use on the same button is a level of retardation that didn't think humans who know how to tie their shoes were capable of.
That could have been fixed easily put run on the left stick click, barrel roll on X (Reload on hold X) and disable the "use" command while you're in combat. But they decided putting 5 controls on the same button was a better option. 100% of my deaths were a direct result of the A button doing the wrong thing.
3) Your Squad mates are stupid as shit. They don't seem to understand the purpose of "cover" they'll constantly get on the wrong side or just run out and not even bother taking cover and get killed.
4) The enemies do more damage faster. That increases the amount of time you sit on your ass waiting for your shields to regenerate. That coupled with the grenades, enemies who are a lot smarter when it comes to flanking you, stupid squad mates, and the atrocious controls make the game frustrating as hell to play on veteran and up.
forth. They found a way to make planet scanning suck even more (For which they deserve a fucking medal, I didn't think it was possible but they figured it out)
These are story things and one of them is specific to my imported save.
1) Your returning human squad mate from ME 1 gets put in a coma 20 minutes into the game.
I have a theory for why this is the case: They cut the writer's pay in order to fund their stupid multyplayer thing. That would also explain why Shepard's personality is cut down to "Paragon" or "Renegade"
2) I Imported a pro-Cerberus Renegade save and Cerberus is still after me. That doesn't make sense. I did everything the Illusive Man wanted and told the Alliance to suck it. That Shepard would not have gone back to Earth just to be treated like a criminal.
Again I can chock that up to under paid writers not giving a damn.
And finally.(This is unverified hearsay mind you) A friend who has beaten the game (I haven't got to the second disk yet) told me that 10-15 hours of multyplayer is "Required" in order to get your readiness maxed out. Also that the ending is a load of bollocks.
I've been playing for 15 hours and I haven't found one redeeming element of the game yet.
(Except maybe that boxing match with James)
It seems to me that the trilogy curse has strike again.
Example in movies would of course be the Spider-man trilogy, Star Wars Trilogy(both of them) and The Matrix Trilogy.
In video games the only example I can think of at the moment is the Prince of Persia trilogy because for me Sands of time was good, Warrior Within was average and Two Thrones went downhill from there.
So yeah Mass Effect fell victim to the curse which I am hoping the Bioware would avoid but no, they still took the lazy route and somehow manage to piss off the majority of the fans that invested their time, effort and feelings for this excellent series.
I am lost for words after that ending, that was a direct kick in the teeth from Bioware to all the series long term fans. This poses the question; For what?
What reason is there for anybody to have spent days playing through the series, getting the rewarding feeling that ME1 & 2 give you, to then have the series end like that. What the actual fuck people?
To summarise (spoilers),there are two endings, which are practically the same. In both, Shepard dies, all the mass relays are destroyed as well as an unknown amount of other technology (practically stranding all the aliens who came to help Earth and destroying the intergalactic community), all of your friends and love interest are seen to crash land on some random jungle planet and others are just not shown to have any ending. Thats it, no closure, no happy ending, just two equally bullshit endings that make all you have done in three games worth of play time for nothing, nothing you do matters, Shepard is always going to die and I will always remember Bioware as the developer who managed to destroy one of my favourite game series of all time with an ending worse than the OJ trial.
Anyone been on Metacritic recently and seen how many reviews EA bought? Its scary. Never have I thought a game was worth 100%, so when I see a game get one, maybe two 100%s from semi-major companies, I don't think much of it; they really enjoyed it and are perhaps a bit biased towards it just now until the enjoyment factor wears off, okay; I don't even want to go back to Metacritic and see what its sitting on now; last I checked was seven; i.e. seven, unbiased, independent critics thought it was perfect, without a single flaw, because to me, that's what 100% gets and no game ever has or ever will deserve it.
