I don't understand the hatred of Rebecca Black either. If you don't like her music, then don't buy it. I just listened to her sing on America's Got Talent and, quite frankly, I don't think she's that talented. But millions of people who aren't me liked the song and saw the video. Now she's making money and she deserves it, if she's providing a service that people are willing to see/pay for.

Having heard the song, btw, it's possible that while she's not a very good singer, maybe she has a knack for songwriting.

The hate she receives (at least here in the states) is unbelievable. I can understand not liking an artist, but the rabid hatred of her is way beyond me. Anyone care to explain?
It's because she is just too damn sexy and we are all also jealous of her totally awesome singing voice. She has as an artist, paid her dues and people are envious of her success.

Didn't we have this exact discussion like a month ago?
We did, I suspect however, that we will have this discussion, like all discussions, again. At least until the discussion starter receives their expected response, which hopefully I have provided. I suspect this is why we see the thread "fallout 3 is better than new vegas! ALRIGHT!?!" or "Mass Effect isn't... PERFECT, You Guys!" 100 times a week. Because that one guy is just hoping against hope that people will suddenly, today, tell him what he wants, nay what he needs to hear.

Hate the music. As for Black herself.....I'd hit it in a few years, nothing beyond that. Alsop, WTF? Just found out she's fourteen. Totally thought she was....older.

And what is it that I "want, nay need to hear" exactly?

I am asking a genuine question. If you already participated in a similar thread before, then instead of cluttering up the thread with half responses and snide comments, don't answer. It would actually save you time and effort.

I don't hate her, but I hate her music with the passion of everlasting hellfire. It's just plain not good. I respect her for trying, but sometimes trying isn't enough to get a good result.

I thought the internet had moved on from the whole Rebecca Black thing, but I guess not. She's not a bad singer although the lyrics they had her sing were absolutely abysmal in both of her songs. People seem to forget that she is only 13 years old and by making personal attacks at her it just makes them seem like genuine assholes. I mean "Friday" was ridiculously stupid and people can bash the SONG as much as they want, however, I believe that the personal attacks and insults are going way too far.

I know its the internet and we have little to no boundaries as to where we won't go because we can all hide behind usernames at the end of the day. Imagine if you were 13 and you did this silly music video because you like singing and you aren't half bad at it. Then you start getting death threats and people telling you to cut yourself, or to get bulimia so you'll be pretty. The people who do that are really low cutting down a girl before she can even figure out who she wants to be in life, making an already confusing age all the more troubling.

Also, I'm not trying to defend her songs because they are god awful, but I find it hilarious to annoy others with it.

I don't hate her, its just the horrible lyrics she sings.

People with a better ear for music can dislike her voice if they want, but I can't even get that far when the lyrics are as bad as "Friday"

Most people sing pretty bad anyway, it take a special kind of stupid to create such horrible lyrics.

The music video is pretty bad as well, but none of these things are her fault specifically, its just that she had the misfortune of plastering her face all over it.

I ask this. Why do people hate Bieber. Your honor I rest my case! And on your last note for a call to order. I'd like a chocolate milkshake B3

It's just the music. I hate all North American rap. It honestly can give me a headache in 10 minutes. And I can't stand 98% of all other music since 92'. People are going to dislike what someone puts out. And some people are going to really hate it. I don't go out of my way to push through the crowds to voice my dislike of things. But if asked I will, or I'd just leave the room. Wheres my milkshake?

I don't hate her, I find her hilarious. She's at the perfect point where she is so bad it's funny. Besides if I was offered money to sing even though I'm talentless I'd still do it, I don't care if it's manufactured pop as long as I got paid well.

Just because every artist is not the next Tool does not mean they are deserving of hatred. Trust me, the people you ought to hate are record company executives telling artists to write songs for radio, trying to influence creativity when they have no investment in the artistic process beyond trying to make a dollar off of it.

In the US people like the spotlight for some reason. For many, they take the easy path, letting their artistic life be controlled so they get their 15 minutes. Rebecca Black seems to be another example of someone who received fame when in reality she wants to begin to express herself. Whether or not she is a good artist is overshadowed by the fact that her financial backers are controlling what she can and cannot due artistically. At this point we do not know what her artistic potential is.

You see this a lot in music, Hollywood, fashion, etc.

People need to acknowledge their hatred and anger, but in less destructive ways. Anger can be constructive. You do not like the song "Friday"? Fine then critique the song and the artist if you must. Hell, it might even do the artist some good to know that they should do more. Hatred on the other hand is just worthless and destructive. Acknowledge that you have hate but instead of focusing on the object of your hate to fuel it, channel that same energy into trying to figure out why you hate that particular thing. The answers may surprise you.

Yeah but it wouldn't be half as fun. Some things are just worth the effort, ya know?

Tell ya what? I'll offer you a genuine answer by way of a consolation prize. Just to show you I'm not all that bad a guy.

I think in actuality the vast majority of people will, one way or the other, not hate her. It's simply that the people who do are loud. And yet I seriously have my doubts that of the people who'll answer "yes" on this poll that the majority of those answers will actually hate her. The bulk of the "haters" are probably just opportunists who'd take the chance to hate on anything for some reason or another. She's a cipher for whatever particular thing gets their goat, or maybe just a source of mean spirited amusement. She's an easy target, she's there, for some people that's enough. For those who remain and have some kind of genuine moral compunction regarding her "authenticity", there are probably more relevant targets for their righteous indignation, don't you think?

I don't hate her, if only because she makes funny parodies like This [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IaWDUUC9Lj0] possible.

I don't hate her. I don't even know her. I'm absolutely perplexed as to how her awful song exploded the way it did, but I don't listen to it, so it doesn't bother me.

Edit 2: Oh, and that rapper guy. He's the one that wrote Friday. So yeah.
That guy actually apologized for writing that song because he felt bad about all the hate Black was getting.

OT: I chose yes on the poll but I don't rabidly hate her, I just dislike her. (not as much as Bieber though, he can die in a fire pit filled with creepers with the scary ambient cave music playing in a loop for all I care.) Anyway, hate is a really strong word, while it is fun to bag on a girl with a bad taste in music it's another thing to say you hate her. I'm sure she's a nice girl and she seems really level headed with all this hate and fame... for now.

Eh, aside from an annoying song I've heard a maximum of once, I really don't see the beef people have with her. Maybe it's the feminine version of Justin Beaver, who people just love to bring down for some reason. I dunno. I react to both equally: Turn off the radio and enjoy Daft Punk.

Shes know by everyone.....for being bad at what she dose its not a good thing to be famous for. Her songs are make you want to be deaf bad amd auto tuned out the arse. Her new song is apprently about her rubbing it in the face of all the people who dislike her what adds up to about 98% of the internet. She has not dont anything to make her likeable but i also dont see why theres all the hate, shes just a bad singer

"Daddy, can you please make me famous with your overinflated credit card?" I have a problem with Ark Music creating musical abortions for spoiled American teenage girls.

And it's that ridiculous argument her fans come up with that I hate too. She isn't talented, she is just a stupid, spoiled girl with too much make up and an auto tuner.

Compared to Black, Justin Bieber is alright. At least he has musical talent, it's just that he's wasting it.

I think the best way to put it is to rehash a old saying: Hate the song, not the singer.

Yes, that policy doesn't work with some singers, but for teen idols like her, Justin Bieber and even Miley Cyrus, all they're doing is living their dream, or doing what they feel they're good at and making money off of it. Now, don't get me wrong, I wouldn't care to listen to music from any of them, though that's mainly due to the fact that their music isn't my style. I prefer classic rock and heavy metal. Thats just me.

However, while I don't hate them and only mildly dislike their music, what I hate is their fans. There comes a point when fandom goes too far, though that applies to everything.

Bottom line is, someone out there likes their music, and if you don't, you aren't required to listen.
