Vigilantes are people who take the law into their own hands. this is illegal because some peoples' interpretation of what's right is different from a vast majority of others'. defense of the piratebay: hilarious for pirates but let's be honest: it makes sense they'd be charged with promoting piracy.

AnonOps is good, there are a few other good branches of Anonymous, there are a few really bad branches of Anonymous, and there are some neutral ones.

Your view of them depends on which you are most exposed to.

They're basically an internet-only terrorist group. If your organization does something they don't like, they blow up your website.

Anybody who thinks that there isn't any leadership in Anon with an agenda is only deluding themselves.

I'm gonna be funny for a minute:

All humans are inherently evil, anonymousity invokes evil, Anonymous is composed of anonymous humans, so therefore Anonymous = EVIIIILL!!!!

because hacking and hazing is only fun when your perpetrating it...the rest of us see them as douches

I mean, "Anonymous" isnt really a group. some people associating themselves with it have done "hactivism" but other things have just been for the lolz...which is not that funny for the majority of us

Id say they can do good things, but they can do horrible things as well since its not always the same people. Good things = Saving abused animals, Bad Things = Cyberbullying an 11 year old girl (Jessie Slaughter) Sure she seemed pretty bitchy but they went way too far.

Why cant anonymous stick to funny things like that time they declared war on snow?

They're a law unto themselves, essentially telling us whatever they feel is right and thinking they have a moral blank cheque to do whatever they hell they feel like to accomplish their goals.

I dislike the preachy nature of THIS IS WHAT IS RIGHT AND WE WILL ENFORCE IT.

The reason I cant fully support/trust Anonymous is because simply put they are not an organization based on anything more than getting "lulz" out of people. In fact they aren't really organized at all, its an online melting pot of beliefs/morals that really isn't controlled in anyway or by any standards. Though it is a bad thing I do like vigilantism when our law abiding system doesn't bring the justice that is deserved.

Some claimed Anonymous groups bring out said justice in superhero-esqe ways are doing good all around the world. Some (in my opinion) take things way to far in their pursuit for "lulz". They are a dangerous enemy, and a strong ally at the same time, but in general I feel its best to just remain neutrally at arms length with them. They are the entirity of the Good and Evil spectrum.

So I guess my answer would be "all of the above" or "None of the above" =S

I'm curious as to what those victims DID to attract the attention of anonymous.
If ED was still up, I'd point you there. But alas.

Suffice to say when someone shoves their feet so far up their mouth they can walk while sitting, Anon will probably launch into action to record, disseminate and lulz the crap out of the poor fool for everyone else's enjoyment.

Eh, I suppose you could look up Oh Internet. Yeah, do that. Then look up Jessi Slaughter. She's a 'victim' of sorts.

I just can't get over how every time Anonymous is mentioned, all ye who hear them begin shaking in their proverbial internet boots. Why is this? Why does everyone believe this? Sure, there are anonymous hackers out there that attack consumers, but come on.
It's definitely because of the media. They control what we hear about things and can skew them. So people think they are bad. I realized Anonymous wasn't a bad group recently. They've only gone after people who deserved it anyways. Fuck credit card companies. Anonymous is like a digital Tyler Durden. Now they started attacking Iran digitally.

I would love to see your proof that doesn't involve Faux News.
