Everyone? I thought a lot of people liked them.

Personally I think they're a loose organisation of fucking brainless idiots who know how to use a keyboard and may know how to hack but have no common sense.

4chan is a grabbag of humanity: you never know what you'll get. But on a case to case basis I will say they're chaotic neutral.

The actual Anonymous are the good guys, we've seen all the stuff they've done, and they do it with a certain way, this is different from people who just say they're in Anonymous. Alot of hackers like to claim they;re in Anonymous to make themselves look cool, however this breaks the first rule of being Anonymous in the first place.

There is a very clear distinction between the actual "Anonymous the group" and just anon people.
This is why it annoys me when people think that Anonymous are behind stealing all the information from PSN, they would have admitted to it, because that's what they do.

On top of that, before now all they've done is good, it's completely out of character for them to suddenly steal all of that information. Doubtless it is a group of hackers, but it's not Anonymous the group.

I think they are hackers + I hate hackers = I hate Annon.
Why is hacking instantly a bad thing? Wiki leaks, helping the revolutions in dictatorial countries are good acts are they not? You can do hacking for good reasons as well as bad. To say you hate any hackers is a crap thing to say, because they're not all bad. What you hate are the hackers that do bad things, and I should hope not hackers as a whole.

Because their first mainstream appearances on TV made them out to be internet predators, paedophiles, and rapists. Remember?

In my opinion, they're like Jerks-With-Hearts-Of-Gold.

But usually jerks.

Though when they do actual nice things, the things are VERY nice. Like to the point where you'd seriously consider ignoring all the bad shit.

The news gets a field day out of it, so they put up crapshot stories about it. People who beleive those stories are entitled to beleive them, if they beleive that ignorance is bliss, then let them be. We'll be laughing at them while they're making idiots of themselves in public.

Not going off on a big conspiracy here, it just makes good TV so they exaggerate it for the benefit of those who are genuinely afraid of change and of something they can't control

The problem is that they're not a structured group and have many different factions within themselves. Which leads to incorrect generalisations about them.

Maybe they do do things to help other people but anonymous are.
A. a bunch of hackers and no one really likes a hacker because in most people's minds hacker = criminal.
B. Anonymous people are usualy the trolls that harass others on the internet, and i know people say well it's freedom of speak, it does'nt matter harassment is still harassment.
C. The anonymous group it self has been known to cause problems for companies like sony

Anonymous can do thousands of good things for people, but it only takes a few little things to destroy all the "good" that they do.

I think that anon just doesn't get it right, yes the project chanology and the arrest of the cat binning lady was nice, but at the same time, they've hacked into the personal details of millions, not to mention the bank accounts, which is criminal behaviour, it just seems like they want to do good for the few, like standing up for geohot, but they end up doing the opposite.

* sigh * and folks still assume Anons are responsible.

ORGANISED CRIME. QUIET SALES. USE OF COMPROMISED PERSONAL INFORMATION TO CREATE RESPECTABLE COVERS FOR LAUNDERING THE PROCEEDS OF CRIME.

I just can't get over how every time Anonymous is mentioned, all ye who hear them begin shaking in their proverbial internet boots. Why is this? Why does everyone believe this? Sure, there are anonymous hackers out there that attack consumers, but come on.

Project Chanology? All those times Anonymous has saved abused animals? The group fights censorship and tries it best to keep civil rights, net neutrality, etc., all these acts of literal internet vigilantism, and everyone seems to think they're some kind of internet hate machine. Where do people get their ideas from?

Oh, that must be why.
I just don't like the fact that they claim so many high and lofty ideals, when most of their actions are just the screaming of a petulant child. They claim to support all these rights, especially free speech, but from most of what I've seen that is mostly just an excuse to fight the copyright office to so they can download stuff for free. Even if it isn't, all the attacks on consumers and bystanders just gives all those causes bad press, and gives the people who are trying to take away our rights to "protect" us, even more ammunition.

I wouldn't call them a hate machine so much as a group of petulant children who will never accomplish anything good, and who undermine the efforts of real protesters and activists everywhere.

Anonymous are a collective of uncontrolled immature douchebags with entitlement issues. They like to pretend to be above the laws and are nothing but a bunch of bullies, who attack others "for the lulz".
Just because they attack Scientology does not make them the good guys -- the enemy of your enemy is not your friend, but at most your ally. And you do not ally yourself with a rabid dog since he WILL bite you as well when you least expect it.
