Because as men we have been built with an internal instinct of establishing dominance and superiority in every field. This applys to politics, economy, sports, gaming, and even in cases of pop culture and literature. This question basically asks," why is man always focused on establishing which/who is dominant." To summarize it in a few choice words, IT'S ANIMAL INSTINCT!!!
I didn't know opinions of comics were based on animal instinct.

Manga everyday.
Why?

Because something like 7/10 Comics are shit with nonexistant stories and actions nonstop.
Can you possibly back that up with some examples? A lot of manga are like that, Bleach and Naruto are good examples. My flat mate reads them and the plot isn't exactly rich in those not to mention they're fight after fight too.
Both Bleach and Naruto can go to hell as far as I'm concerned.
For good examples, I'd count up Ghost in the Shell, Crossbone Gundam and Chobits.
For the bad comic examples, can I point out Linkara's review of the Ultimates?

I can point out that not all suck, just most. I think the problem is that in our Western comics, they take themselves too seriously and are usually aimed towards adolscent males while Manga tend to be a lot more goofy even if it has a serious tone to it.

I'm currently excited to read the Surrogates comic and Space: Above and Beyond.
Ghost in the Shell is a good one, but manga have a lot of the same problems as the western ones. Pointing out just one comic that Linkara reviewed wasn't hard, I was hoping you'd base it one ones you've read yourself, because I did read Bleach and Naruto to a point.

Take Dragonball Z, Yu Yu Hakushow and Street Fighter II, they're basically just fighting and such. While I like Gundam, they're all kind of the same... Something I have noticed since watching Amuros exploits in the original series.

I'm not saying you're wrong, I more or less agree with you but Anime/Manga has the same amount of that kind of stuff that Comics in general do.

I would have to say that manga takes itself quite seriously.

I don't know about you. I don't think that way. So not everything is into is better then what your into

some people have different tastes. And want to look like they have the better hobby that's more worthwhile then someone else's.

Well, read Manga and Anime and thought it to suck. Not just one type, but a large collections of stuff, and couldn't get into it. I read comics, they make sense, they have interesting stories, and they were made for guys. Sorry, but I get the feeling Manga is targeted towards girls, and I honestly could care less about whos hooking up with who, but seeing guys being torn to pieces by a dude with a screwed up past sounds interesting. Not trying to sound sexist, its just the way I took Manga vs Comic.

P.S. something tells me this might get locked since its a vs

Because everyone thinks whatever they do is superior to everyone else.

Its normal.

And I like them both equally. I can't say I like manga better because I've yet to read one as awesome and politically involved as something like Watchmen, but manga and anime are a nice escape from anything remotely realistic.
I would like to agree and build on top of this if it's OK. If it's not, sue me. When people go to the internet they're usually more daring and show more emotions bottled up in a cold world that we all live in. They like something, they might think comics are a little better than manga when they're out with real people talking face to face. If they see someone on the internet saying manga is superior however they change at once to saying manga sucks and that comics are superior in any way.

I read comics more because there are more of them over here (almost no manga to get).

This was actually about how people think something they're into is better despite not knowing anything about the other. It's not a vs thread, I just put that poll in there out of curiosity :)

EDIT: However if it turns out that way, my bad ^^;

Not a problem, just a forewarning, and tbh, it seems it is turning into a vs thread.

The wholesale appropriation of Japanese pop-culture here in the West is something that is, to me, utterly baffling, because an objective analysis reveals most of it to be just another type of the crap we have here (but probably weirder than our crap).

I greatly prefer western comics... okay, that's a lie, because saying 'prefer' implies I give manga the time of day (I do not), but I have reasons for that beyond "it wasn't made in America!!1!eleventy!". My dislike of manga/anime stems from aspects like narrative/style/presentation/etc, not the country of origin.

With the Japanophiles though it's almost jingoistic how they latch onto anything Japanese - except of course for the bit where they aren't Japanese. Which doesn't make a whole lot of sense because I can see what you're obsessed with and it's mostly pretty damn stupid and/or derivative.

Oh, and Ghost in the Shell is just Short Circuit, but with boobs. This is the only reason it is popular.

You know, this exactly how I feel, I just didn't have the balls to say that. I've noticed theres a lot of anime/manga fans on here, so friend, I'm afraid you'll need a flame shield. I'll give a temporary.

Don't worry too much about it. Manga and Anime are like all fads. They'll die out soon enough and we westerners will find something else to obsess over. For years, it was all about being English. Next, it was all about being French. Now it's about being Japanese.

It's just the childish way of the world. The woman was indeed completely wrong to be THAT close-minded. Everything can be good and can be shit, it all depends. You're mature to realize this, many just plug their ears and yell "la la la!"

GitS anime is a lot better than the manga. I seriously can't see why everyone loves the manga so much because I just find it so silly at times. It's good but still. Too bad they didn't include the 056-057 pages in the anime though -cough-

Amuro's exploits?
Could you name one just out of curiosity (since the RX-78-2 was basically indestructable)?

Agreed. But most western comics are aimed towards young males rather than adult people while Manga have a much wider varierity to diffrent people.
Amuro is the pilot of the orginal Gundam series ^^ Although I haven't seen the Crossbone Gundam series.

I think manga for the most part is targetted at teenage girls, due to the cutesy appearence of most guys.

Have you heard of Vertigo for example? That's more mature stuff there for older readers, but it all depends on what you see as immature really.

It's been show by studies that, at a base level, people tend to believe that everyone else shares the same opinions and thoughts as themselves. It's a piece of evolutionary flotsam, like the basic want for lots and lots of fatty and sugary foods.

I prefer comics, I like easy to follow stories, you know stories involving: clones, dead parents, intergalactic zombies, multi universal watchers, adopted farm hand parents.

Yeah, compared to that I find anime and manga confusing... and all the dudes look like chicks.
Of course this is only because I can't get past the realm of unfamiliar that anime has. I bet that girl in the OPs topic would find me closed minded, and uneducated.
