You know what pisses me off. People who just can't let people argue or bicker about stupid shit anymore. People who have to psychoanalyze everything they and others do until their actions aren't even human anymore. Go live on planet Vulcan where no one is illogical. Talk about someone with a superiority complex.
There's no real problem with that, and if she just said it that would be fine. But it was the fact that she was rude about it, that's what ticked me off.

wheres the neither option? I only own obscure comics that my dad gave to me too sell on ebay. There worth nothing by the way.
I've explained that already, but it was to see which was more popular among the people here out of general curiosity, a neither option would serve no purpose here. Just don't vote ^_^

Neither? I really want to start reading some of DC's comics (Watchmen, Dark Knight, etc.) if I ever get the chance, I don't even know if there is a place to buy comics where I live.

I'm not a dickhead when people like different things than me, except when it comes to music, for some reason I am very elitist about my music.

This should not be an issue, because they're both of awful, Russian cartoons are the best.
wah?
My point was that it's not actually an issue, everyone has their own opinion, and we all save a lot of time if we just get over it.

It wasn't a matter of that, I can live with people liking their own stuff. Even without having read or played whatever, they don't have to like it.

It's when someone who knows nothing about the subject matter is really rude and trashes it, that's what bugs me.

AS a manga fan who has read and enjoyed several western comics I think the big reason most manga fans in particular dislike comics is the abundance of non-characters like superman who is often portrayed as infuriatingly perfect, being given one weakness (and exactly one), and one that authors have randomly chosen to allow his to 'fight through'. This is not to say that there are not good and compelling stories about Superman, but it is a strong perception. Another big problem with comics is that authors change frequently and they rarely have much respect for prior work, making the 'history' of many comics absolutely insane. The big problem is that for every awesome character like Batman or the X-men there are annoying non-characters like Superman and Daredevil (at least in my opinion). And for every masterful and intense plot line like The Watchmen or the Sentinels (in my opinion that was one of the best arcs in X-men) there are absolutely horrible plots. At least in anime and manga you have some assurance that a manga will be readable because characters and plots are all written by the same person instead of randomly changing.

Now to argue against manga, and laud the benefits of Western comics. One major problem with manga is the obsession with fight sequences over real story, Bleach in particular is guilty of this, using it's plot as a weak excuse to string fights together. Another big problem is that sometimes in anime and manga it is impossible to tell what on earth is going on. Especially for many of the new writers who will never make a name for themselves. Reading a random manga is generally a large risk to you very sanity as you have no idea what the new manga. However reading random manga will sometimes lead you to find an undiscovered gem like Psyren or Dance in the Vampire Bund (readers STRONGLY cautioned about that second one, very squicky). Comics generally have a legion of editors and red tape that stop most of the utterly impossible to understand.

I've got several shelves full of manga (Claymore, Deathnote, Nora and Trinity Blood) and only one solitary western comic (Umbrella Academy number 1) which really falls under graphic novel. I dont know why but I can't really get into the art style of western stuff. Theres always this nagging voice in the back of my head that says "That girl's eyes should be at least six times bigger..."

Spiderman is a comic character, so comics are instantly better. Japan has nothing that can honestly compete with Spiderman, Batman, or Superman.
I just realized almost all of the best known superheroes are -insert animal or adjective-man or sometimes -animal/adjective- Woman.

Just a case of cultural appropriation. People right now just love to praise foreign products and distance themselves from local ones - right now, anything that comes out of Japan is "exotic" enough for people to start harping on about how much superior it is. Happens with foreign films as well. I can't help but think that current Korean films are way better than Hollywood pictures, but I realise that this stems from an ignorance of films in general; there are many good Hollywood films I haven't bothered to watch last year, and I'm sure there are plenty of crap Korean films that I haven't seen, simply because only the better films are likely to be exported to the West anyway.

Back to comics vs manga. Sure, manga is ok, ignoring the fact that "manga" is just a Japanese equivelant term for "comic" (likewise the term "anime" is used to refer to Disney cartoons or any animation), but comics are superior simply because of this guy:
Who?
Desperate Dan. He's a cowboy with a geordie/Scottish accent, who eats cow pies. He was a staple of an old British comic called The Dandy.

Whatever, they both have good and bad in spades.

Comics: Preacher, Priest, Hellboy, Punisher MAX, Cable and Deadpool
Manga: Battle Angel Alita, Monster, HunterXHunter, JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, Rurouni Kenshin

I'd probably give the edge to Manga simply because the percentage seems a big better (maybe about 3/10 on the good/bad scale, but that might be because really horrible stuff doesn't make it stateside).

The good manga are usually invalidated by a TV adaptation, so I clicked the "Comics" option.

Both have plenty of good and bad. Though I don't think anyone's disputing that manga tend to have better image quality than western comics.

Same as the 'console wars'

Everyone likes to feel superior and sophisticated, when to be honest everything isn't that different. I prefer manga, but I feel it's beside the point
