I know you are gonna say that i am trolling, but I am not.Why do you people love Duke so much??He has no background story,he is just a dude with guns, thats it!He is selfish, ignorant and a copy of rambo, only he has witty puns(but now every one has them, even the Bulletstorm guy!).Why do so much people respect him more then gordon freeman,Or Master Chief??(then again Chief dosent have a background story 2..)I am going to play forever, and that is going to be my first, probably last,Duke Nukem game!I mean to wait FUCKING 13 YEARS!!I think (and hope) they kill the Duke in this one,but since he is a "badass" he will probably live again like a zombie or something...Will you buy it or not?
(Sorry I think there was a thread about buying Duke Nukem 4ever)

I guess the big thing is that the game never takes itself seriously. It's a really good trait to have for a games market.

Also, I will not, never liked the series.

The first game was fun and he became a joke among gamers about the second duke game never going to be released.

Not every game has to have a deep story but just pure fun.

Duke is the ultra-machismo character that, for as horrible a person he may be, has such charisma that he's likeable no matter how gross or idiotic he is. You can't help but love him. Also, there's a lot of nostalgia in it.

I'll probably buy it.

Nostalgia for those who've played the earlier Duke Nukem games, and an appreciation for the whole massive irreverent hyperbolic action hero cliché that is Duke.

Is it great and nuanced characterization and riveting mature storytelling? By no means. Is it good fun? Yep, at least when you're in the mood for B-game shenanigans.

Since I played Duke Nukem 3D, I'll probably play this at some point as well, though it isn't much of a priority.

Duke Nukem 3D is one of the few shooters that I like but I don't think that I will get forever.

Because Duke Nukem 3D was a triumph of fun over technology. Back in 96, the Duke3D vs Quake arguments were what PC gaming was about (kind of).

It's all about nostalgia. Plus, I'm guessing a lot of people of this forum are too young to remember when Duke Nukem Forever was first announced...

Duke is a product of his time, and unless you were there for it the first go around, you're really not going to be able to fully appreciate what he's all about.

Personally, I'm not that into it. Duke was fine for his day, but he's been surpassed by just about every FPS out there. He's dated, a fossil, an antique. Duke Nukem Forever is arriving 13 years too late, and barring the loyal patronage of hardcore fans who've waited with bated breath for the Duke's return, I don't foresee it doing very well.

I like Duke, I played all the Duke games up to Duke 3D. I also played a bit of Manhattan Project, but it had lost something along the way. I was kind of looking forward to DNF, but two magazines I trust have been saying from previews that it isn't all there game-play wise.

I tried Bulletstorm the other day on a console, and I sucked at it because I can't play console shooters, but I watched my brother play a bit (he can play console shooters). It was just too juvenile, I couldn't get into it, neither could my brother. I think I may have outgrown those kind of games.

I do still like pure fun games and hope is on the horizon because Serious Sam: BFE will be here soon!

Dukes the original ultra badass of the FPS world. All the other ones are just meh copies.
As for Gordon and Master Chief... dull, cardboard cutout silent characters. Not interesting in the slightest. At least Duke has a friggin personality.
The other two have all the emotional depth of a tea spoon.
Funny how you say this,it dosent mean if you have a voice you have persona, also,Gordon Freemen has a deeper story,he doesn't talk, but everyone else does the talking for him!

OT:I see some of you say its good because of the nostalgia,I played fucking disney games, doesn't mean that they are any good, just that I liked them back then because I was so young I would like a shit spinning in an microwave!I must admit shit in a microwave cind of sounds fun!!(Maybe I can do it in the game...)

I guess it's hard to understand for people who weren't around for the Duke's heyday but back then he was one of the best known characters in gaming so there's a lot of nostalgia at work here.Virtually everyone who played games in the 90's knows who Duke is.Add to that the fact that Duke comes from a time when shooters didn't have to take themselves so seriously all the time and I guess people are hoping DNF will offer a kind of antidote to the current trend of gritty, brown CoD clones

I personally hope DNF is successful because it,along with Bulletstorm, could help show that not all FPS game have to be so goddamn serious all the time

Of course I'm going to buy it, it's fucking Duke Nukem! He's the Chuck Norris of the gaming world without question and he pretty much cut out the template for a lot of 'badass' FPS protags today (not all mind you). I'll be getting it simply because I played the others. If I like a series I don't leave a series unfinished. Plus it looks freakin awesome!

Just to tackle Gordon Freeman, he's more like Bruce Lee. He might not talk much but the guy gets shit done. His words come from his actions. Master Chief doesn't even come close to Freeman.

Depends if its actually a good game? We'll have to wait and see about that.

Most people are just buying it for nostalgic reasons and well....... I've expressed my opinion on nostalgia before.

Personally I think Duke is a remnant of an age of gaming that has thankfully passed us, and I think every gamer and their dog jumping on the bandwagon to buy such an "immature" game isn't doing much to help how the media views games and gamers. Not that there is anything wrong with enjoying something immature from time to time, I'm just stating facts here.

I'll check it out of the gameplay turns out to be fun and not just a spam-fest like Serious Sam games.
