Poll: Why is your MMO better than Wow?

What's that? It smells like controversy.

Okay, to be honest, Wow is number one, and it's number one for a reason, but not everyone who plays MMOs plays Warcraft. So my question is, what is your MMO of choice and what draws you to it? For me, It's Dofus. I've just always been partial to Tactical RPGs (fft, Disgea) so this one was a natural choice.

But what about you? What makes you shun WoW in favor of your MMO?

I've played all the MMOs listed above and more and they were all trumped by WoW. I haven't played WoW in about 4 months now, but there IS a reason it has the most subscribers. Because it does what it does well. The only other MMO that's even close to WoW in terms of playability is Guild Wars, so I guess I voted for that.

EDIT: Actually I lie, I've never even heard of Dofus.

The only MMO I have ever played, besides Runescape, is LOTRO. And honestly, I am very happy there, the biggest draw naturally being the source material. But also, the ingame community is FAR better than what I experienced in RS.

As I said, I've never played WoW, I likely never will because looking at screenshots and videos, it just doesn't seem to my tastes.

None to be honest.
WoW is too polished and too huge for newcomers to truly compete.

But I have high hopes for the World of Darkness MMO.

Sorry, I can't hear/read your question. I'm too busy grinding the Hall of Monuments in Guild Wars.

...

Fine, I'll answer seriously if I must... I picked Guild Wars for the aforementioned Hall of Monuments, damn them... they know my one weakness: Reward me with goodies.

I play WoW occasionally and I have to agree that there IS a reason it's on top, I've played RuneScape, LotRO, Warhammer Online, and DC universe online. In my humble opinion all of those really do fall short of WoW, WoW is simply far too well made and polished to be overthrown except by itself one of these days...

WoW really is the ruler of the MMO domain for a reason. It has some of the best community support offered and is just so well polished and maintained. I can't imagine what it would take to unseat WoW from its throne but it would seriously have to revolutionize MMORPGs, and even then it still might not be able to take down the towering monolith that is WoW.

I really love WoW fans. They all sound like walking commercials for it. That said, I'm not arguing against WoW's popularity or even if it's a good game or not (Personally I didn't like it but what ever) I'm just wondering what other games haves that WoW lacks. In Guild Wars case it tends to be a matter of economy, For me Dofus' game play is just mor fun and it has Interesting Visuals, and then some people just don't fantasy.

Played WoW for years. Have several maxed out toons.

Currently me and the wife play EQ 2. Why do we play it and why do we think it is better?

More content and alot more varied content.

We raided in WoW back with BC. Swore never to do it again. So if you don't raid.... Once you max out every class - do every instance - get max PVP gear - WoW is done. EQ2 which we have played off and on for years is our main and only MMO now because there is a shit ton more content. More Races/Classes/Areas to explore - Ton more lore and stories as well.

To each their own though. People who like wow can stick with it. IMO though for solo or small group PVE content EQ 2 is better than WoW in many ways.

Why is Guild Wars better than World of Warcraft you ask? Well that's an easy question to answer: Playing Guild Wars is free. Well, free once you purchase the game itself, it's not one of those "Free to Play" style titles where they make all their money from micro-transactions, the game itself still costs money, but it's like buying a regular non-MMO game - you pay once and then never again (unless for some reason you want to).

The way the world is instanced also neatly solves the "other people in MMOs are mainly total assholes" problem - I deal with people if and when I want to, otherwise I stick to adventuring with trusty AI companions instead. 90% of the time I'm playing Guild Wars I'm effectively playing it by myself, whilst chatting with my alliance (answering questions, cracking jokes, etc) - at any point I could team up with someone, but I'm rarely if ever required to do so and when I do it's on my terms, no random asshats can ever wander along and ruin my evening without my express invitation for them to do so (PvP is restricted to arenas and all explorable zones are instanced).

EVE Online is one of my all-time favourite games. I vastly prefer it to WoW, partly because it's less repetitive, partly because there's less need to socialise with the other players, and partly because the other players are more likely to be people with whom I would like to socialise.

I haven't played any other MMO apart from WoW,except for maybe a few months Runes of Magic which is free to play which probably doesn't count anyway.

One particular MMO that I will be interested in is TERA,looks very promising. Also Vindictus,if they bother shipping it to Europe before the Apocalypse hits.

After the success Turbine has had from turning DDO and LOTRO free-to-play, I would expect every other MMO to go the same route. As long as it has a great concept behind it, people will absolutely play your game if it's free. And if it's truly outstanding, people will jump into the microtransaction pool with glee. That's where the real money is made.

For me, Minions of Mirth. I have a weakness for Hardcore rpgs :)
Oh, and is free; Only one time pay, like GW.
And you can multiclass your character without restrictions, plus the community is great (and really small, sometimes it feels like a SP rpg :D )
