That thread was just plain offensive and stupid.

Guess what, when you make a stupid topic you get reported. Thats how it works.

I don't mean useless thread with no discussion
if its funny why does it matter???
Hmm, I was just on that thread having this discussion.
I don't get why people reported it, it didn't seem offensive or innappropriate.

People don't report Zero Punctuation for swearing and the arguably 18+ use of metaphors. It's basically the same principle so I honestly don't get why people do it unless it's grossly offensive which that thread wasn't.
I believe stupid threads count as well.
I didn't find it stupid. I'd call it random and fun. Most emphasis on the random part.
But I guess finding it stupid would explain why some people reported it
Are you sure? I found it very stupid. Ah well all to their own I suppose.
Well alright it was pretty stupid. But from that stupidity I found it a bit funny. But yeah it was mostly just random. Like you said though, each to their own

Because most of the things that get reported are slander that no one finds funny.

Why pick up litter? It makes your streets nicer, and you have to walk down those streets so they might as well be nice.
what you find as litter other people might find funny if other people are enjoying them why report them when you can just ignore it?
Stupid argument. other people might enjoy scat porn, doesn't mean we should allow it.

When it comes to reporting, people Frankly don't do it enough. Do keep in mind that the mods will only deal with thing's that they feel abuse the rules. It's their decision, reporting just brings it to their attention.

People report because, in my opinion, they have no sense of humor and no sense of personal responsibility to ignore such threads and move on. It's not like these threads take up actual physical space....so what is the harm?

Our community sets the standards for the threads we want here, and the moderators typically enforce threads the community deems inappropriate, if I am correct. If enough people report it, it wasn't worthy of discussion. It's not anything personal or anything.

If we let one through then one more will come. If we let two through then another will come. If we let 100 through then we're 4chan.

Ive pressed the report button roughly 5 times...3 of those were during "the raid" from a while back.

So I'm pretty much the last option

Because this place isn't b. If you want stupid often racist threads then there are places for that, this isn't one of them.

I don't know why but quite a few stupid threads have poped up lately, that is not a good thing.

I don't report, I consider it a form of tatteling, and that's lame. I remember when you could write whatever you wanted and it started a conversation. True, we have submission rules on this site, but I figure it's up to the mods to enforce them.

In general, everyone needs to lighten up.
It isn't tatteling, our community has certain rules and guidelines and expectations one is supposed to read before posting here. Submission rules, as you said. If somebody doesn't follow them, well, that's tough. Tatteling is what little schoolchildren do on the playground, and our community as a collective is better than that, as we set the standard for what we want here and what we do not. It's what adults are expected to do; follow the rules or face the consequences, and I believe everyone on this forum, though we have a relatively yound userbase, are treated as adults. When you are an adult, if there is behaviour that is sufficiently against the rules and you choose to tell someone, it isn't tatteling, it is the equivalant of performing a civil duty.

We have plenty of wacky stuff on here, what with ponies, and badges, and user groups, it has nothing to do with us having a sense of humor or "lightening up."

EDIT: "Stop Snitchin'!", anyone?

I report people if they break the rules, because they broke the rules and that is what the damn button is for.

Also, I come to the escapist to escape the rest of the random inappropriate humor that litters the internet. I'll admit, sometimes if an inappropriate thread offers a good question or room for discussion, I will pass on reporting it, I may even contribute to the discussion. However, if I wanted to spend all of my time responding to ridiculously stupid and inappropriate threads, I would go to 4chan.

i accept that if the topic is really bad then it will be blocked
but if its just a random funny thread which people find somehow offensive and constantly ruin the thread by just commenting "report" then it ruins the thread for other people and may cause the moderators to block the thread anyway if enough boring people click report

You do know mods don't fall to peer pressure right? It's their site and they decide what goes on and what doesn't. There is nothing we can do to stop that. All the report button does is alert them to something.

I report threads that are especially inflammatory and/or stupid. Basically, I report blatant advertising and trolling.

We mods are here to make the forums a happy place for everyone where they can sing campfire songs and hug. Then beat the shit out of each other in things like Genre Wars. The point is that this forum has people on it ranging from 12 to over 40. This means that any given thread shouldn't offend individuals within that range from all kinds of social demographic, economic and ethnic backgrounds. It's a lot more difficult than people think, and we function a little bit like cleaners to mop up the threads and people who upset our happy campfire circle.

The report button works to let us know when you think something does just that. We've got a small forum by internet standards, but we also have a very small mod team. That means we don't see anywhere near the amount that we should, and need to moderate. Use that red button. it's a beautiful thing.

edit: i don't mean threads about fetish porn or overly inappropriote stuff i just mean random funny threads, which the majority of which ive been on have been full of people posting "report"
Because we have a tradition here of threads with some thought. Besides not everyone has the same sense of humor and something that maybe funny to one person may seriously offend another for one reason or another.

The problem is that it does take up space. It takes up valuable front-page room for threads with more interesting, valuable discussion than "Tranny A or Tranny B?"
