Poll: Why TF2 (and Valve) is worrying me

Its that whole buying in game items with real money thing. The Mann. Co. Store. Especially the fact that the key for the supply crates cost $2.49 and only gives you one friggen use. That ridiculous.

Is anyone else annoyed by the fact that Valve seem to be toying with our trust? First the steamworks thing, which is totally not zef or cool at all, and now this Mann. Co. thing, which is also not zef or cool, and no one seems to be complaining. I always thought Valve was a better company then this and was always interested in the gamer, but I'm starting to lose that image.

Does this annoy anyone else, or am I just a little non-conformist?

I don't know about this "steamworks" thing but I don't like the store in TF2, so I don't buy from it. We can still get our weapons randomly right? If not, I will kill you valve! Just kidding but seriously the weapons were fun to get and IM not spending an extra 2 bucks for some hat!

I really don't see the fuss about this. Isn't it just for hats for your guys to wear? If it doesn't effect the game whats the big deal? It's kinda like getting mad about how some games offer to let you buy a t- shirt for them in the avatar store.

There are hats that affect gameplay now.

And they cost 17 bucks from the store.

Then that's bullshit and they shouldn't do that. But out of curiosity, how do they affect the game?

Wait really? Wow.

And people pay money for that? My god that is dumb. See its not even really the store thing that bothers me so much but its the fact that people are buying from it. Otherwise it would be long gone by now.

You payed for the game for probably 20 bucks or less.
Just once.
They're expected to provide a continuous stream of updates for the rest of eternity.
They're losing money from it.

They have 3 options to stop losing money from TF2:
Pay to play/subscription
Micro Transaction System
ORRRR
Stop supporting the game altogether.

Which one would YOU want?

Disregard him, he clearly doesn't know what he's talking about.

Actually, now I understand what he means. But even so, it's not like the hats themselves have the effects, and you don't have to buy them either.

I dislike the fact that you need keys to open supply crates, I cant find anyone to trade for them and I refuse to pay money on steam for them. I think you can find the keys as random drops aswell.

The polycount hats give a small bonus if worn with the complete set (for example, a Scout using all three Milkman items and wearing the matching hat). Hardly gamebreaking, and the hats are VERY easy to craft (4 refined metal + a polycount weapon of the same set).

As for the $17 price tag, that's to catch the gullible idiots who are too impatient. It doesn't affect you, so don't worry about it. As for the store in general, well, people asked for it. Don't blame Valve for implementing requests.

If you dont like it don't buy from them. Just trade away your crates to someone with disposable income. Chances are Valve just needed to boost their profits a little so they loooked at microtransactions and said "That'll work!" And maybe that money is going to Episode 3? (If we're being optimistic)

Actually none of what Valve is doing is dumb or a disservice to their customers. Why? Because people love the Mann store. It is a resounding success.

You play on the servers, that's what alot of them talk about- "trade me this hat for x...", "do you have x item..."....and so on.

TF2 players love the store, wearing the hats and using the new weapons.

I was surprised to see the TF2 community getting into all this hat wearing mumbo jumbo. Good job on Valve's part.

You can find everything in the store randomly in game for free or by crafting...it's just rare and hard to craft the poly hats...Valve saw this as an opportunity to pay back people who made the new items and to make some more money off a game they have been updating for free..really it s just basic capitalism except there nice by not making you have to by their stuff.

Anyone else wondering wtf 'zef' means?

Also, I support micro-transactions. I like TF2, I want it to keep going. For that to happen, Valve needs to make money off of it, and I'd rather not pay 15/month for it. So yeah, I buy stuff, hell, I gift some of it. And you know what? I hope more stuff gets in the store, that way the game will still be around when you actually are able to get old enough to get a job and support it yourself.

People would ***** more if the game adopted a subscription or died.

words or reason it be, but i think its fair to say it irks people that you can by in game advantages regardless of the logical reasoning behind it.

i remember when wow introduced in game stuff every one shat a brick, and it was just vanity items.

That last one. I hated TF2, and with it gone maybe, just maybe they'll release Episode 3 sometime this century.

As I mentioned in my last post, these bought advantages are very tiny, so if someone wants to waste $20 on that, when you can just craft the hats with ease, let them. You're blowing this WAY out of proportion.

Okay, so it kinda sucks but people are overreacting to this. Really, from what I've heard the issue is people obsessing over getting the hats and metal, and making the game like a big auction house.

The only thing I don't like is just how many fucking crates drop.

A lot of people don't use them, and it's really fucking hard to find someone who will trade for them, because to most people they're essentially worthless.

Valve, either reduce the drop rate for crates, or start dropping keys.

See thats what bugs me. Wasn't making people buy in-game items with real money the same reason everyone on this site went ape shit over Zynga?
