I managed to find some info on it, and the trailer you provided, and...it seems a lot like Pikmin. And I hated Pikmin.
Sorry. >:

Wii U? Possibly if they make something that will hold my attention to it, like a home console Pokemon game. Nintendo has no idea the money they would rake in if that happened...

When there's actually a game I want on the damn thing, sure :D

Monster Hunter is looking to be that game...
How's Monster Hunter as a series? I've heard about it and want to see anyone's opinions on it. And then I try it. [sub]And now my free time goes down the sink...[/sub]
There's very little story to the whole series, and honestly, it doesn't need it.

It has quite a large learning curve, which is both its strength and weakness.

You hunt giant monsters, kill them (which is difficult until you learn their attack patterns and behaviour, and then it's still a challenge), carve 'em up and turn into weapons and armour.

I'm sure there's an intro vid somewhere on Youtube, give it a watch and see what you think.

Yes....

eventually....

very eventually.

I only get a new console a couple of years into its cycle so that the kinks could be worked out and the library can grow (I don't care for backwards compatibility at all. If I want to play a game, I just use that system)

Good God, no! I learned from my mistake in buying the Wii.
So you're not buying this console because the last one was bad? shouldn't you judge it on it's own merit?
I am. As with the previous console, it's a machine that will be underpowered pretty quickly, and which relies on a gimmicky controller that I despise, especially after having tried it.

I've owned every single Nintendo console ever made. And the Wii is the most underplayed console I've ever owned, dating all the way back to the days of the NES and the Master System. It's an expensive paper weight. I made the mistake of buying the Wii, and I sure as hell am staying clear of its successor. Fool me once and all that.

Probably, just much later down the line. The wii had like, what, a 6 year run? It actually does have a decent library of pretty solid titles. The problem was I got the thing so early and the good games were so far between that I ended up hating it for the longest time just because it took so long to come into itself and seemed like a terrible purchase in the meantime.

Honestly I still think the system is going to fair better than Sony or Microsofts will, though. Nintendo is fairly smart about having a decent library of exclusive titles that can only be had on their system. If someone wants to play Mario, they better get a Nintendo system as that is the ONLY system outside of an emulator that will have Mario Games. Meanwhile, if someone wanted to play Bioshock, Call of Duty, Crysis 2, or any other number of shooters, they got their pick of three different systems with the PC winning on the price almost every time. Heck, even a lot of adventure and RPG titles can be found on Steam for ridiculous discounts compared to their console counter parts, to the point where a person is probably spending about the same amount of total money if he gets a decent gaming PC or just gets a PS3/360 in the long run.

(Typically $60 for a console title while it's $40-$55 for a PC title. Some discounted down to $30 or below. The used market helps a bit, but even then it still comes out with the PC having a bit of an edge.)

i would really love to like nintendo again, but so much of what they do now focuses either on multiplayer or gimmicks. i dont enjoy either of those things. wii u has shown me nothing that makes me want to buy it. its impressive hardware, for sure, but not something i can ever see myself playing unless they shift the focus much more toward single player (and since the hardware really only adds to the multiplayer experience, i dont see that happening). i dont hate nintendo or the wii u, but it is clearly not a console designed for the type of gaming i enjoy

I'm not sure if I'm going to get the Wii U. I'll probably know better once more games come out for it. I've gone many months without a TV and my console games, so I've been playing on PC games and I'm not sure if I'll go back to console. My mom might get it for herself, though.

Most probably, yeah. It sounds actually quite interesting, also the Wii had the most interesting exclusives for me in the last gen.

A big + for me is actually the controller. I don't own a decent TV and playing console games on the controller sounds like a good solution.

So by a handheld.Much cheaper and wile they wont have the games you want you can send a message to nintendo by not buying there crappy system because of its dumb gimmicks.
If I want handheld quality of games I buy a handheld. But since I liked the library of the Wii more than the other two I am sure I'm going to like the library on the Wii U as well.

And just to spell it out to you:

I
like
the
'gimmick'
of
the
Wii U.

Harsh, eh? I won't buy their system because I want power from my gaming machine - I have the PC for that - but for games and other gimmicks that allow me to experience gaming in an other way than my PC. I have my trusty sidearm in form of the 3DS, my powerhorse with the PC and why not a console that lets me experience AAA quality games from anywhere I fucking want - Wii U.
That's what I mean, the Wii U is worth having because it doesn't compete with the PC like the 360 and PS3 does.

I plan to next year at some stage when it's price lowers just a tad and I grab myself a 1tb HDD.

Also if we're going down the gimmick road I'd say the connectivity of a tablet+phone+console+glass is a massive gimmick that requires you to own all 3 along with the PS move and then we have gimmicky attachments for pc's too so let's not leave them alone for a change since Nintendo is the one to rag on about gimmicks.

I am in the process of building a desktop, so that was my entertainment budget for at least this year, but within the next 2 years I will get one, price drop or no. Next year is iffy as there are a few computer games that I know I want and will consume my time for a very long while, but 2014 is supposedly the next Zelda game, and I am a hardcore Zelda nut.

I am voting "no" not becuase the Wii U doesn't look interesting or that it's games don't appeal but because of my current console gaming situation.

Currently I have the Wii and the 360. But I hardly play them. I like the games, I love gaming and I have a decent (46inch) TV but I just don't have the time to game on the console. You see the TV is used by people in my house for watching tv - the only time I get to use them is when I am alone in my house. So the PC is my main gaming platform - just out of necessity.

If I get another TV in the future I might think about the Wii U.

NO.

By the time the Wii U have a library of games that would be half as attractive as it should be the next console from Sony, Microsoft and even the Ouya would have my attention instead

Not for now, it's not going anywhere and can only get cheaper. But I know I'll get it eventually.

True, but without games. Or do you think when the new sony and ms consoles come out they'll have a great library of games? The truth is, if you look at launching titles there aren't many that are great, Wii U is actually above average.
Keeping with the track record of the Wii, I say it's libary mostly non-sense shovel ware, yeah the Wii U have some alright games on release but its all ports of games I already own for other systems, And the New Super Mario Wii U is a rehashed New Super Mario from the Wii and DS with some stuff from Super Mario 3.

You know how many Wii titles I own, 3. Mario Party 8, Super Smash Bros and Wii Play (I am not counting Wii Sports).
I own some 20 PS3 titles and 13 Xbox 360 titles guess which system collects the most dust?

I gave the Wii to my parents so they can use it with NetFlix, they stopped using it when there web enabled Bluray player does a better job in HD.

The Wii was a waste of cash for me. At this rate the release titles for PS4 and what ever MS called the next Xbox would have a more appealing library that a year or 2 of what ninendon't can dish out for the Wii U.

So far the open source, runs on Android Ouya with its release titles include Mincecraft and Final Fantasy III has my interest more that Nintendo has with a Wii with some polish on it and shoe-horning another controller I don't like.
