Just like Ultima Online ruled for a while followed by Everquest and then WOW took over, it'll take a while to run it's course and then something better will come out. If any developer can topple WOW, Bioware can.

i dont think wow can be toped, i also think the new star wars one has a good chance to make a good dint in the wow market, as a long time wow fan, i plan on checking out new star wars one, mainly because ive bin a longer time star wars fan, and a huge fan of kotor, although wow can be kill one way, just like everquest, there a good chance when wow releases its new mmo, another mmo could jump in and steel the steam and become king of the hill.

Well how long is Ultima Online now excisting? 13 Years. And its still not down. so Wow has a good chance to be alive for 5-10 years.
but someday the grafiks will be their end. Like it was with ultima.

Maybe that new Star Wars thing.

But then again, they said the same about Hellgate London, Pirates of the burning sea, Auto Assault and Tabula Rasa, and they all failed.

See, this is why I don't play MMO's.
Same reason why I hate MMOs..

but then again those other titles developers sucked.

And the SW: old republic game is being made by Bioware...=/

Everything with a beginning has an end. Even WOW[/quo

playing wow doesn't end, just goes on and on no matter what ya do, you can install it, but ur character is still on you account and wont budge, he'll just wait until you come back to play again, which i must add many people do.

also explain research in generally, we started ages ago and still haven't ended =P

I'm just sitting here dreaming of a Sporehammer 40k, a detached procedural 4x-esque warhammer simulator that runs on the spore galaxy engine.
I'm in if I can detail the way my commissars blast cowards and shout about how the emperor totally rules.
Would it be warhammer if you couldn't?

I think not.

WoW will eventually get too old and boring, but that time is probably many years in the future.
I tried it out for a bit and everything repeats itself to much, suprised it has lasted this long.

OT: to be honest nothing will beat it until the servers crash....it has too much of a head start

The new Starwars MMO has some potential, but at the same time WoW is one of the largest games out there, not to mention that at this point there are very few, if any problems to work out in WoW wheras any of the newer MMOs will have to take a while working out the kinks

Awful lot of hate in this thread already, so I'll just ask this;

Does anything need to beat World of Warcraft? It's a good game, and lots of people like it. Just because you aren't a fan of something that doesn't affect you in any way, doesn't mean that it has to die.

Also, if you think that World of Warcraft is grindy, then you're playing it wrong.

Well, seemingly undefeatable empire's always crumble in the end, and considering WOW is on a much smaller scale than, say, the Roman Empire (which lasted for CENTURIES for Pete sake), I'm willing to bet it will be toppled at some point within our lifetimes.

That said, in the world of the interweb a lifetime is HUGE!

Ill have to go with No here. WoW is simply too popular and got quite a devoted fan base that keeps playing and keeps it rolling. But eventually blizzard will pull it down like all other mmos. But b4 that no other game will succed in beating it

WoW will probably stay the biggest MMO for a while... it's still the best-known and has a very solid playerbase.

Of course eventually it will become less popular, either because something new comes along that snatches the attention of the MMO-addicts away from WoW, or because people start to notice the game is really starting to get old. Both aren't too likely to happen anytime soon though, considering how many people are hopelessly addicted to the game.

I wouldn't really expect any significant shift in MMO-land until Blizzard makes WoW2. Sure, most WoW players will move straight to the new game, but the transition would make it easier for even the most fanatic WoW-geek to give something else a try in stead of playing the same game for years and years.
