Oi... BioWare has a slump and now everyone's up in arms about whether or not they're gonna go up in smoke. I'm kinda glad I didn't actually "grow up" on video games otherwise I dare say I may have a similar opinion.

BioWare'll be fine. They're one of a few developers who can do what they do consistently well unlike, say, Capcom or Square Enix. I have no qualms about BioWare's ability but I do hope they/EA don't aim for another random cash grab and that they actually take their time for DA3.

They are two different development teams, Old Republic in Austin and Mass Effect in Vancouver, they will be fine.

ME3 can either be the greatest game ever or a huge disappointment, considering the way the trilogy has been structured. seeing as the spent no longer on it than ME2, i vote for disappointment, though simple brand recognition and fanboyism will make it a success based purely on the hype and advertising.

TOR will fail; fanboys or not, trying to integrate a story into an MMO which is designed to keep people playing for far longer than any story-based game has ever been is a recipe for failure. the lack of attention to the other aspects of the game will be made all the more obvious once the apparent "story" loses momentum, and players will get sick of it rather quickly.

so they will maybe even out (roughly) financially, but for me fail creatively; like 90% of games do.

After the constant freezing that Dragon Age 2 causes my PS3 and the patch Bioware released still dosn't fix it. Their pretty much on my do not buy till later list. Don't really want to end up buying another of their games that freezes the system every 10 minutes.

I think Mass Effect 3 will be the best game ever made. That's my prediction. Mass Effect 2 had so many plot holes it was completely stupid, but I think they have gone out the other side and those plot holes won't seem as obvious this time around.

The Old Republic? Don't know, don't care. MMO's suck.
plot holes?....I didnt see any plot holes (the plot wasnt exactly complex enough to allow plot holes, it was more doing each crew members quest, and no I dont think thats a bad thing) I made up a general rule in that if you notice it the first time and it annyos you...then yeah its a plot hole...but looking back...it doesnt really matter

Bioware aren't exactly doing well with sequels these days, so I'm not holding my breath.
ME2 did very well regardless of those who didnt like it...

what Im wondering is will Bioware go down the same route as blizard? as in put all their energy into the MMO (if its sucessful) I guess though they are different teams....but still
And then go on to make Starcraft 2, one of the most awesome games ever? Yes please :D

Am I the only one who doesn't think that the story in DA2 was terrible? I like that it bucks the standard fantasy story of YOU are the ONLY ONE who can defeat the ULTIMATE EVIL!! Which seems awfully cliched to me. Honestly the only thing that annoys me is the copy-pasted environments and the bugs, but every game is released with bugs these days. Also, I've never been a fan of silent protagonists when all of your companions have so much personality. But enough of that.

Yeah, they can do it. The Star Wars fanboys will be able to make the MMO profitable, and if they bring back my Mako and a bit more customization of equipment(ammo upgrades, not powers), I'll be happy.
Eh, dont forget the Star Trek MMO. That was one massive flop and you would think the fanbase alone would have allowed them to make triple the money they spent on it.

Agreed on Dragon Age II. I got it cheap, and im glad I did. I didnt really pay attention to the hype, any of it. I went into it knowing fully well that it was nothing like Origins, but also thinking maybe it would be decent anyway.

Well, fuck that. I havent played every game in the world but I have honestly never played a triple A title that felt as rushed as that game. The opening was possibly one of the worst openers I have ever seen. And it only went downhill from there. The story feels rushed, it has no real arc, no pacing, nothing. The environments and characters are bland and uninteresting. Even with the high-res texture pack and DX11 and all that stuff, the visual style failed to impress me, it actually put me off. Its one thing for a game to be slightly behind the times and have 2005 graphics. I can deal with that. What I cant deal with is when the whole game world just makes you want too vomit.

I liked ME2, I loved Origins, but if you honestly try to argue that Dragon Age 2 was in anyway a decent game you are fucking bonkers and experiencing a severe form of buyers remorse. Jesus. I still cant wrap my head around how fucking bad that game was. They even fucked up the combat!

I can't run things at max levels anyway, so I'm used to games looking like shit. Besides, graphics are pretty but tons of people get a lot of enjoyment out of the boxes of Minecraft. The game didn't appeal to you. Let's use other media to demonstrate, I don't like emo music, does that mean no one can honestly like emo music? I wish that were true, but it's probably not. I like punk rock(reason #1 why I hate emo music, damn bastards ripping us off and then pansifying it), does that mean everyone has to like it? No. You have your opinion, I have mine and you don't have to assume there's a psychological reason I refuse to acknowledge what you perceive as a mistake. Oh, and I don't mind being wrong, when there is a definite wrong. In the world of entertainment, there is no definite wrong or right so stop acting like there is. Oh, what does it matter anyway, you're just going to use BS soft science psychology to say my 50$ regret is making me say these things.

Well, there went my good mood for today, and I was so happy(in a kinda superficial way) after the Bruins won today.
Lets see then.

Bad graphics.
Combat that stresses tactics but throws them out of the window anyway.
Repetitive combat with repetitive enemies.
Repetitive, bland environments.
Story is terrible, lacks any point of focus.
Characters are badly written and boring for the most part.
Game as a whole feels rushed, everything feels awkward.

Lets weigh that against the positive points.

Its Dragon Age.
Bioware made it.

You can scream its all opinions all you want at the end of the day. But I think most people would agree that getting a car shoved up your ass would not be pleasant, however, there may be some guy out there who would enjoy it (after a couple of years on the internet im convinced there is some guy out there that enjoys it). But, getting a car shoved up your ass still sucks.

Dragon Age II sucks. If you want to defend it, how about you just tell me why it is a good game? Ive given you enough reasons why its mediocre from the start, but you have no argument. Doesnt shine a good light on you. Smells like buyers remorse.
Why don't you preface everything with the words: I think? Because you are acting like you're the authority on what games are good or bad. Also, I didn't provide points to argue because that's not what this thread was made for.

Pros:

Tactical combat? I still use the pause, set things up then play all the time, so your playstyle must not fit well with the game.
The story is three separate stories. It's not the epic tale like ending the blight, none of the three stories is meant to measure up, the first two sections are more or less backstory for why you character becomes important in the city, though I agree that the third section was rushed.
Leveling makes much more sense now with all abilities actually having a purpose, particularly with mages(tons of junk spells in origins)
Less robotic faces and conversations.
Better balance between classes, not perfect though, mages are still overpowered.
Made me actually like these people who were my family, except Carver, but you're not really supposed to like him.
Some fairly compelling secondary quests that made me want to do them aside from ooo, I can get this item or some money

Cons:

Lack of choice of race.
Repeated environments.
Removal of trap-making and stealth actually being useful outside of combat.
Heal cooldown too long.
Crafting system is a little too simple, which leads into:
The removal of the skill system.
Specializations are given to you, not a reward for gaining the respect of a companion.
Lack of customizability of companions.
Looks like ass, but that's just according to you, who can run it in high settings.

But, as I said before, this isn't the thread for that.

Enough in fact to make me nervous for ME3, which can either do as good as ME2 or better, or flop.
I love the way you kinda covered EVERY possible angle on that.

"I'm nervous for Mass Effect 3, which, like all games, can do as well as its predecessor, better than its predecessor, or worse than its predecessor."

:p

OT: I dunno, I'm looking forward to ME3. Not gonna play TOR though, don't really like any MMOs apart from Guild Wars.
