I doubt they ever will, but the list of what they have done isn't that bad.
They said they would update regularly, but their last update was 2007! And the games that are compatible have more bugs than a hooker the day the troops come home.
Why would a hooker have bugs? It doesn't make any sense...
You sir, need to watch some ZP.
To be fair, you did mash two ZP quotes together to make something that doesn't make a whole load of sense.
Well the it made sense to me at the time and getting off topic isn't exactly what this thread is about.

The original quote for all those of you who have nothing better to do: ".....making more money than a triple cunted hooker on the day the troops come home" - Yahtzee Croshaw, Gears 2 ZP review.

Who are these people who have time to go back and play old games? I can't keep up with the new ones they put out!
The people that don't have the money to keep up with all new releases :p

And nothing to date has matched Otogi at what it did so well.

I don't know what you define as "fixing" as it is currently working as originally advertised. The catalog of games is hardly exhaustive obviously but most of the games worth playing are there. There are bugs here and there of course, but I have never encountered one that would keep me from playing a game.

And hell, at least it's present. I didn't purchase my PS3 during the backwards compatibility era. I suppose that doesn't really matter to me since my PS2 is sitting right next to it.

Let's see... My PS3 is backwards-compatible and I have all the previous Playstations anyway. Microsoft doesn't give a dingo's kidneys about backwards-compatibility, and you couldn't get me buy an X-Box anyway.

No, no more titles will be added. I think I even saw an official announcement about that somewhere... I think it was in one of the SentUAMessage videos on XBL maybe? I forgot. But anyway, what we have now is all we're getting. I'm annoyed by it too, I have several awesome Xbox games I can't play anymore, such as Painkiller, Psi-Ops and Path of Neo.

Most xbox games I've wanted to play since getting my 360 I've been able to play so I'm not too bothered.

But answer me this: Why can my PS3 play PS1 games that wouldn't work on my PS2 but can't play PS2 games? Obviously PS2 games don't work because I don't have a backwards compatable PS3 but it doesn't make sense that PS1 games work when PS2 games can't. This is especially annoying because my PS2 can't even play PS2 games anymore, memory card slot 1 doesn't work.

When they started out they stated they were aiming to eventually include all original XBox games and that all it took was time.
This clearly doesn't seem to be the case though, and there are plenty of games left that are worth playing and not on the list.
The only game that I know of that had an 'excuse' was Chronicles of Riddick, which the developers insisted was not made Backward Compatible since they were planning to rerelease it, which they by now did.

Stupid question, but why not just use slot 2? Plenty of games let you choose slot.

Will microsoft do anything that won't earn them copious amounts of money?

No.

Will fixing backwards compatibility earn them copious amounts of money?

No.

So don't get your hopes up.
microsoft are selfish and bastardize everything they touch. btw furburt can you do a review on me?
As much as I would love to, apparently they aren't allowed. I got put on probation for the last one, so if I do any more I'll probably get banned, sadly.
Even when the user requests it? That's very strict...

This is for those of you wondering what's the point of BC and asking why not just buy an old Xbox or old PS2.

Umm... let's count the reasons for BC, shall we?

1. Another feature means more value. We never owned the previous console, but there are some games we'd like to play. If the current gen console has BC, we could further justify buying a new console by saying "Well, the console is $300, but BC means it's like I'm paying $50 for a PS2, and only $250 for a PS3."
Alternatively,
"The console is $300, but BC means I'm paying $50 for a PS2, $100 for a Blu-ray player, and only $150 for the ability to play PS3 games. That sounds like a deal to me."
Note: Separating the different features into how much they are personally worth to you is useful to help in any purchase decision.

2. Having 2 systems instead of 1 means twice the space, clutter, and complexity. Some gamers live with women who don't like any of those things, or even don't like them themselves.

3. Some gamers did own the previous console, but it died on them. Having BC in the current gen console means they get to use reason #1 to justify buying it. Also, if they already have the current gen console, they already have the ability to play the old gen, so they don't have to bother buying another old console.

4. BC means you can sell your old console and use that money to help pay for the new console.

5. New gen consoles with BC often means enhanced graphics, which means they look even better than they did before. At the very least, it can mean an upgrade from 480i to 480p. Personal taste combined with the effects used means that's debatable though. Some people prefer sharp, jagged edges to fuzzy AA smoothing. I heard a debate about that more on the PS3 BC than with the 360 though. "Black" for the original Xbox looks much better on the 360 in my opinion. That's saying something considering how good it looked before. Halo 1 & 2 had special attention paid to their emulation. They play in 720p on the 360.

So, unless you have valid reasons to counter all 5 things above, can we please stop with the "What's the point of BC?" responses? Financial arguments like "They won't do BC anymore because they'll make far more money selling you downloadable versions," are still quite valid. By the way, I refuse to buy those games too. I'm a "disc-in-hand" kind of guy.

I think you'd want to reconsider that, since I've been proven wrong by several people.
