An optional easy mode should be a win-win situation. Non-hardcore gamers could enjoy the game, which means more money for developers, so they can keep making games, and the hardcore gamers can still look down at and feel superior to us not-so-skilled gamers.

Eh, probably. I'm one of those players who uses easy-mode as a stepping stone into the higher difficulties, so it'd probably get me really interested in the game.

Though from what I've heard monsters respawn when you die, which would piss me off regardless of difficulty...
isn't that the standard? In almost every game I played, you die and w hen you come back all the monsters are there... actually... every single game I've played was like that

Maybe you're talking about the checkpoint system? kinda how they had it in the first Dark Souls, each time you'd go to level up or rest or pick up new healing items, all the enemies in the area would respawn

Probably. I remember playing the first Dark Souls (until I eventually quit due to frustration) and thinking that I would LOVE it if it was just a tiny bit more forgiving. I loved the setting, I loved the non-linear gameplay, I loved the story, I loved the monster designs (and how can you not love Wyverns that breath lightning) but it was just that tiny bit too difficult.

That may not be true to the spirit of the game and the difficulty was somewhat refreshing but that's not why I enjoyed it and I think it's possible to make it a bit easier while still preserving the spirit of it. I'll admit that most of the difficulty in Dark Souls is more the challenging kind than the unfair kind but I can still think of a few moments when the game was more trial-and-error than difficulty and it pulled a couple of dick moves that could have at least been a little less harsh.

If you prefer the brutal difficulty of Dark Souls good for you but, as long as normal mode still exists in DS2, having an Easy setting is hardly going to ruin the game.
