Will you be buying the latest Nintendo home console, the Wii U, on launch day? I will because I think this is a step in the right direction for Nintendo, and they need to know we support this direction by buying the product. If you're not buying it, why not? What is wrong with it? State your reasoning below.

No, I just don't see the console lasting that long.

The thing is, while the WiiU is cool and all, it's getting released at a really awkward time. It's at the tail end of the current console cycle, but it's being released before the next one starts.

Nintendo is saying that the WiiU is going to be significantly more powerful than the PS3 and the Xbox 360, but the problem with that is that only the first party games that Nintendo puts out are going to take advantage of this, and the rest are going to be ports of games that are on the xbox 360 and the PS3, so difference will be completely negligible, and honestly, how much more powerful does a console have to be to render Mario? Nintendo's games have a cartoony charm to them which doesn't need to have HD graphics and hyper-realistic detail.

The problem also is that Microsoft and Sony are working on their own new consoles now, so after the WiiU comes out and next xbox and PS will be released right behind them probably about a year or two, and they will both be more powerful than the WiiU probably, trapping the Wii in that state again where it's not quite good enough to run all the third party games that the xbox and PS do, and so get saddled with only their first party titles (which are great) and shovel-ware from their third parties (which is utter garbage).

I just really don't see this as ending that well for Nintendo, no matter how they play it, the timing is just really off.

Maybe, I'll probably buy it later because I'm cheap like that. Then again, this is Nintendo and the Wii was pretty affordable. We'll see.

Yes, not at launch but a couple months afterwards. I'm excited at the news of a possible 4th Smash Bros title but as much as I love that series I need at least 3-4 must have titles before I'll purchase it. The backwards compatibility with Wii games is a good thing and I like the Wii U tablet design.

Right now, Smash Bros 4th (not guarenteed) is the only thing carrying the Wii U as a consideration at this point. By Winter 2012, I'll already have a PS3, PS Vita, 3DS, and Wii.
Come on Nintendo, give me something new besides Mario/Zelda/Metroid 3rd party. I pre-ordered the Zelda Skyward Sword Collector Edition but when I look at the roster of titles I'm a bit worried.

Around September-December:

Wii
- Zelda Skyward Sword
- <.<
- >.>

PS3/360
- Uncharted 3
- Skyrim
- Batman Arkham City
- Rage/Mass Effect 2/ AC:Revelations/Dark Souls/Ratchet and Clank: A41

No, because I bought a Wii and haven't played it in MONTHS. I have a total of like, 2 games for it.

Not wasting my money on Nintendo's shit again.

It is stinking of the Dreamcast, and I know you shouldn't judge from history, but having a console that is superior to the current generation, but will most likely be surpassed within 2 years has never turned out brilliantly.

Now i support new and innovative ideas , but doesn't mean im going to be a sucker for new shiny shit . The wiiU is gonna fail as hard as the virtual boy! Yup i said it.

....um. Good point. But I still think my argument holds up, because I don't think the casual gamer market is a strong enough market, and has been shown by the fact Nintendo are trying their best to appeal to the hardcore gamers. But, since games will inevitably be released multi-platform and Hardcore gamers aren't generally the richest bunch, they'll migrate to platforms that will definitely be supported, like the next generation of the Xbox and PS3.

Plus, I don't think the WiiU is specialised enough to be a success with either group. The crappy motion controls and the weird looking controller will put off the hardcore gamers (and even if it doesn't, the PS3 will support the same thing, but it'll most likely almost as good), and the casual gamers won't be as willing to put their money forward twice.

It got to were it did because the casual gaming audience was enthralled with it, and because it was cheap to make.

The problem is that the WiiU is going to be more expensive to make than the original Wii was. This means that Nintendo will either have to take a loss on the hardware in order to move it to the casual audience, and have to hope to make up the money on game sales, or they'll have to make the console expensive to make up for the production costs.

The problem with the first idea is that casual gamers don't really buy that many games to begin with. Many of the people who bought a Wii, only bought 2 or 3 games, and were happy with that.

The problem with the second idea is that casual gamers might not be willing to pay that much for a console.

Either way, a more powerful and more expensive console will have to be marketed to the hardcore demographic and not just the casual one, since the hardcore players are the ones willing to pay $400 for a console, and who are going to be buying the most games.

I have no intention of ever getting it. Controller looks silly to me, plus it's not really a big selling point that it is more powerful than 360 and PS3 when this generation of consoles is on it's last legs.

I might get it. It looks like it could be a drastic improvement over the Wii.

Also, SUPER SMASH BROTHERS 4!

No, as I find nintendo games a bore. No offence to fans, I'm just saying what I think. If there are games that are worth my money then maybe. However I've already got a console and a PC that I've just spent all my money on so it can support Skyrim. Even if I had the money I already spend enough time playing games.

I'll get it, just not on launch day. Or not at all if it turns out awful. Which is likely.

At the moment, I'm a 'still need more convincing', although as of late I've been leaning more towards 'no'.

From what I've seen of it I have no desire to actually want it, to me, it looks more like an add-on rather than a shiny new console. I don't know what Nintendo is trying to do here, but so far I'm not impressed.
