Where are the games?

The third party launch titles seems to be composed of ports from PS3 and X360 games. Not only that, a lot of them are ports of games that are coming out 6 months before the Wii U is released.

I've heard next to no first party announcements. Super Smash Bros is coming... in 5 years. That team is still doing the Icarus game for the 3DS, and that game's not done yet. They have to finish that, and then start SSB from scratch. Meaning that SSB for the Wii U is probably a 2015 or later release. The most I've seen is an HD Zelda video, which is apparently not a game in production. If they started that game just after E3 2011, it'll probably be later 2014 before it shows up in retail.

So essentially I can drop a few hundred bucks to play... games that I can play without dropping a few hundred bucks.

No thanks.

Considering the problem about how they seem to be refusing to buy more expensive parts to ensure the proper functionality of their product, I worry that they may be heading down a similar path as the xbox 360 with the overly cheap heat absorption pads. I don't want to spend my parents hard-earned money on a system that is made up of parts that are too cheap to fully support it. And I also think that they should have a different type of controller to accommodate the people who are basing their hatred for the WII-U off of the gimmicky controller. Wouldn't have all the capabilities as the normal one, but would be more comfortable for people who are accustomed to regular controllers. Unless Nintendo decides to stop being cheap and properly fund their system and it's parts, I don't think that I will buy it.

They said Pikmin 3 is coming to the WiiU. DAY ONE PURCHASE.

Ok, in all seriousness:

We still barely know anything about the system. We know its name, its controller, a very vague description of its graphical and online capabilities, and that a bunch of third parties are showing interest in it.

We don't know the actual hardware, any confirmed games besides Darksiders 2, most likely Pikmin 3 and a bunch of ports, saying nothing of a launch line-up, we don't know if we can transfer all the downloaded titles we had on the Wii onto the WiiU (or if they'll add Gamecube games to the Virtual Console, which they better do), any nice features that'll be added to the interface, and we don't know the price, and so on.

I'll get it, but as for launch day or later, I need a little more info before I make an actual decision.

It seems pretty much immediately obsolete the day of release. Thanks Nintendo, but I already have an xbox, wii, and a ps3. I see nothing that the WiiU can provide that I don't already have on those three systems. It also strikes me as potentially expensive for a gimmicky feature I didn't really want. That, and I'm still bitter that Earthbound never saw a Virtual Console re release. I want to play that game, damn it. Nintendo's arrogance is a bit of a turnoff ever since I've been able to afford competitors. I had to put up with it back when I was 12 and all I had was an N64 and there were six month game droughts. I don't really have to do that anymore.

I'm getting it if/when I can afford it... unless I hear some extremely bad news around release time. (Like the finalized controller not working properly, or something else along those lines.)

I bought a Wii and haven't played it in MONTHS. I have a total of like, 2 games for it.
Then you're missing out on at least a dozen great games.

Plus the downloadable stuff.

It is stinking of the Dreamcast, and I know you shouldn't judge from history, but having a console that is superior to the current generation, but will most likely be surpassed within 2 years has never turned out brilliantly.
It does kind of feel like they're learning from sega doesn't it?

I hope so, I'd love it if they'd start producing for other consoles. An xbox/PS3 Metroid Prime would be delightful.

I will never buy a console on its release date. The Wii U is no exception.

I've never cared too much about graphics--I'm one of those guys who thinks CS:S still looks nice. So no, I didn't exactly throw a party when I heard that the Wii U would be more powerful than the current generation. What I do like about it is its potential. I'm an artist myself, and love the idea of a tablet integrated into a controller. I'm hoping to see a genuinely good art game or two--still holding out hope for a drawing-based MMO.

Also, Smash Bros 4.

I never jumped on the Nintendo hate bandwagon because I own a Wii and play it quite a lot. The only thing I don't use is its motion controls.

I always wait 6 months to a year to be sure all console killing bugs are dealt with.

I'm also a little concerned with the rumor that the WiiU will have the cheapest components imaginable... having the potential to create games equal/above the capabilities of the PS3/360 means nothing if it breaks trying to do so.

My entire view of Nintendo would become unrealistically optimistic if the Wii U had Wacom support.
I normally use my tablet for touching up my paper sketches in Photoshop or sculpting in Autodesk Mudbox(a little hard to get used to though...)

Nope. I don't want a gimmick box like the Wii, and that's exactly what the Wii U appears to be. It's not even a cool gimmick box like the Wii was at first... it's just a sad, pitiful little tablet controller with an xbox 360 attached to it.

I was sucked in by the Wii and did like a lot of its first party games and the same will probably happen to me with the Wii U. It looks intriguing and I'm glad it's got a lot of power under the hood but, as someone already said, it may have Dreamcast syndrome. Of course the console market is much much bigger now and Nintendo have more money than they know what to do with so they could probably afford to take that chance. We'll see. It might deliver.

Fuck no.
I have no confidence in Nintendo's ability to bring actual GAMES to their systems anymore.
The turning point for me was Wii Music; it's a tragedy that such useless garbage turned a profit. But the last straw was when Nintendo openly rejected bringing some actual good games ("Operation Rainfall")to the Wii in America because they thought they were TOO GOOD FOR US.

Nintendo: "Fuck giving your console some badly-needed 3rd party presence, we have more Fisher Price Wiimote attachments to sell you! Now get back to jacking off in front of your TV to Raving Rabbids and Wii Sports Resort!"

I'm not opposed to getting one at some point but as of yet I've seen nothing that would make it a priority.

Maybe...

Down the line...

When the price is right, the games are cheap AND there is something on the console I want to play.

For example, about 6 months ago, I finally bought a Wii, because I found a pack that DIDN'T include Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort! Immediately after, I went hunting for the games I was actually interested in: Madworld, No More Heroes and No More Heroes 2. It's always nice to see what Platinum Games and Grasshopper Manufacture come up with. I felt kind of empty though, none of those games were good enough to justify the purchase of a system that is actually pretty inferior compared to the opposition. However, I finally found a game that justified the existence of the Wii console: Xenoblade Chronicles. So, yeah, if a game like this comes rolling to the Wii U as well, I might buy it.

Also, I haven't bought any in-house Nintendo game safe for Mario Galaxy - which did NOT impress me, "perfect scores" my ass, I was raised on platformers and this didn't deserve the praise it was getting. And why doesn't Nintendo ever lower the prices of its in-house games?
