I wish I could join it but I'm strapped for cash, but it was nice of them to offer a 50% discount though.

Pay for this BS they're offering? Fuck no! 50% off or not, I hate the fact that we are selling out. I refuse to pay for their gaming addiction!

Possibly. I only really visit the forums, but $10 or even $20 a year isn't THAT much. It'll give me an incentive to check out the other stuff on the site. I just need some disposable income, which probably won't be for a while.

But I am curious about how forum bans will work now? I can't imagine the Escapist would ban a paying customer, would they?

Nope. Not enough benefits for the price. And I generally dislike paying premiums on normally free sites anyway, always seems like a waste of cash since there are usually periods where I won't even log on to the website for several months.

Just signed up for it, so I guess my answer is "Yes, I would."

Plus, if I don't like it, well, I only wasted $10.00 instead of $20.00, and simply won't sign up again. Hell, even if it's great, I still might not at $20.00,

No. Only two of those features interests me, and nowhere near enough to justify dropping $20 on it.

I pay 10 bucks per year on godaddy web hosting, I don't have the extra spending cash for something that to me doesn't seem worth it.

HD content? I watch Yahtzee and Unskippable don't really need high def for either of those.

Exclusive forums? That's separating your community and putting some on a pedestal.

I don't like the new forum "rank" in any respect, it seems just to separate everyone and while I understand it's to support the site, there's other ways that don't brush people aside for the ones that do pay. Then again, it's an option, and that's why I'm opting not to subscribe.

maybe, but I can't get it right now, and probably never will, but if I have free time and some money lying around I might.

No way in Hell.

This is no better than DRM or pay-to-play games. I won't pay for WoW and I won't pay for this.

It's a rip-off to pay real money for virtual content that comes in no physical form. Anyone who does it is burning their hard-earned funds (or their parent's) on useless crap. I stand against this for games, and I stand against it for forums as well.

This sort of thing is the stinky end of modern capitalism. Why did the financial credit crunch happen? Because of banks? Maybe partly, but mostly because people were spending more credit than they had on crap like this.

I'm not leaving because of this feature, because I still value the content that I read and the knowledge that I learn from this magazine. But it's tempting to do so anyway for anyone with systems of ethics that resemble mine. I hope the magazine doesn't move further in this direction in the future.

I'll bet that there's an agreement implicit in making the payment which voids your benefits (and your account) if you break any rules. I could be wrong, but that's how it works in some other places. Just like becoming an ordinary member, you often have to agree to site Terms of Service.

If i had more money than i would pay them because i feel i should support them for giving me such a fun site to spend my days on. But alas i'm a broke mother and i cannot.

Unfortunately guys, When i saw the PM a little part of me Died, and ive strongly considered jumping ship before things turn to shit. When i first read the PM i thought "They're going to charge for forums now...", but then i read on.

Im tempted to leave, As much as a love the community here. Why should i part from my hard earned cash, to get insider info on a company that doesnt seem to have much to do with, or even care about, our Forum community. I mean even though most of the forum community seem to hate[/I] MM, They still go ahead - Because they want to run a business. Granted, The forum Mods & Stuff are nice people, and they arrange Escispm days, But the people sat in the offices in the Esc HQ, what do they make...Oh yeah...Game Dogs.

I dont mean to sound like a Skeptic here, But with the influx of new members (hell, After the Valve vs Zynga fiasco, Imagine the advertising revenue they got from those hits, Must've been like christmas) & site popularity, Asking the site to pay for a forum that they dont really need just seems a tad Cheeky, If not a little bit cheap.

Unfortunately PM's like we got just seemed to ad the fire of "This place is going to be bought out by IGN" - Many places have become popular, Bought out by IGN, Fleeced & Marketed to the Hilt - Then left a souless hulk of what it once was...Its a shame the process is probably going to begin soon here.

The Thing is, the way i feel is a "Them And Us" Situation now, The forum community, Which probably gives a proportion of the revenue to the Escapist, And the Suits, Who want to make as much money as they can from the site.

My question to the Escapist faculty is why do we need to part with our hard earned money? ZP is fine as it is, And we all seem to pay our ways be looking at the ads all over the site. (even the evony ones, Oh look, More boobs...)
The "suits" (as you put it, which is weird since today they were all wearing t-shirts) are working right next to the people who run all the community events. We deeply apologize for wanting to be able to continue to pay our contributors to provide the best gaming-relating content on the web to everyone, and to be just a bit less beholden on advertising dollars. The entire point is to let the community give back to the site, which we'll use to provide better features - to you all. That's the whole point of it.

Nobody is being forced to do it; you'll get the exact same user experience you have now if you decide the value isn't worth it to you - which is a perfectly valid opinion. We'll be continuing to give you everything you loved, we'll just be able to give the community some stuff we're thrilled about being able to give them... but it's stuff that costs money to produce.

We like giving you guys awesome stuff. We like being able to keep the lights on in the office.

Also, uh, you really don't seem to notice how ads work these days. It isn't like we get a set amount of money for every view; that's not how advertising revenue works on large scale sites.

Probably not, as I don't feel like bugging my parents for use of their credit card, but if I had my own, I most definitely would, as I love the Escapist and would very willingly support it.

I also think it's cool that they aren't taking away any current features that ordinary folk like me get, but rather adding cool new ones instead. Very classy of them.
