I want to join the Ivy League Escapist, I have the funds, but not a credit card that will work with the current payment options. Put Paypal up as a method of paying and I will join.

High Quality Zero Punctuation, because I can't quite see those white and black figures on a yellow background at the moment, all the colours just blur together in some unsightly glob of pixellated goo
You should probably think about investing in some glasses or something.....

LOL at me signing up for this service and then getting probation for bragging about it.

I was just having some fun.

Now my pointless title was replaced by PROBATION. :p

What happens if you pay for a year and then get banned?

I would, but I don't have a credit card as I'm not 18 yet, and I don't think my dad (he lets me use his when i really want something) would agree to this. And I wouldn't do it because I want a custom title (I do, though), I'd do it to support this site and its community.

What was your pointless title?

I'm considering it. Although not for the things I might gain from it. Simply because you guys do good work and deserve to be paid for it. I'd consider it a donation. 20 dollars a year isn't that big of a deal.

Everyone crying about it just baffles me... so what if its virtual content? You're paying for a 'service', if you think about it.

Then again... no one is putting a gun to your head, so where is the need to flail about hysterically? Or have some people not grown out of the temper tantrum phase?

tl;dr: I'm considering paying, people need to stop whining. <3

Opinion on the "features"

High quality streams: Nope, won't use.
Video podcasts and full-content RSS feeds: This I probably will use, if I became a follower of one of the series.
Exclusive member content: Perhaps.
A custom title of your choice: Meh.
Early access to upcoming site features: Again, meh.
Ad-free viewing of the website: There's an app plug-in for that. [/jerk]
Automatic contest entries: Not in US, so this would probably be pointless.
Exclusive member forum access: No. Just no.
Audience panel membership: Might be interested in.

So, all in all, two features I'm interested in. Would I take this over (for example) a preorder of Natural Selection 2? Probably not. I *might* if I had some spare cash. Which I don't have anyway. So, put me down for "Maybe later".

Who would leave the site because of this?
I believe pimppeter2 and nomad are. Probably some others, but those are the only ones I've heard specifically.
Rumours like that really aren't things you should be casually throwing around. Nomad isn't leaving - do some cursory [a href=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/jump/6.188022.5782004]fact checking[/a] before making such claims in the future.
You mean when Nomad told us in the Socialist Gamers Guild forum:

I will probably disappear shortly. I've been paying shorter and shorter visits to this site lately, and it's been further and further between each visit. There has been a gradual shift in attitude among the staff that I don't particularly care for, and the website feels very cold and stiff to me now. The straw that broke the camel's back is this whole publisher's club thing.
I would not call that a rumor.

I'll probably join, but later. See how it goes, what people think, etc. The video downloads are a great idea, especially for traveling, but HD seems a bit unnecessary.

I definitely have the interest to do so, although being a college student (and a full-time employee come this summer) eats up all of my spare time.

Likely no. The only site I've paid for upgraded membership is DeviantArt, and that's because the features are useful. Here I'm not seeing any must have new features. I can deal with clicking away ads.

This really doesn't bother me at all, to be honest. If all they're doing is providing new features and asking for a premium membership to access them, then I have nothing to worry about, as I only care about reading the articles and posting on the forums.

I see absolutely no reason to declare the sky is falling simply because the Escapist wants to implement a new feature, which may or may not be removed in the future, and may or may not have no effect whatsoever on the status quo.

I find it rather pointless. The only thing I go on here for is ZP and forums :p And to check out the Escapist store to say "I wish I had that" >.<

I will not be paying. If that had happened 6 months ago I might have considered it, but now I rarely find anything interesting in the forums to post about. The fact that I was suspended a while back about something rather trivial, but with a very rude and vehement PM by a mod also affects my decision. Also, the publisher forum is a very, very bad idea that will drain some potentially interesting content from the open forums, when this is exactly what they need to keep people visiting.

Not to mention the Mods have gotten a bit Ban happy as of late, wonder what that's about?
