No, in fact I'm damn opposed.
Not so much that they are asking for money, but I think it would work better as a system of anonymous donation.
I hate forum sites with a divide between the "Paid-up-with-a-shiny-badge" Elite and the common plebs. I think it will do horrible things to the Escapist community, which, for me, is one of the easiest to get along with on the Internet... But not for long I imagine.

Although, there's a few things that bothers me...
Changing your title. From my point of view, titles are earned. Making a new title takes the magic out of it. It doesn't seems like something I would be proud of.
That, and the fact that we need to pay for it. I always felt happy with the things here. Now, it seems the Escapist is changing something into something I don't know....Or,Maybe it's just the little voice in my head saying that.

I can see why they've done it though. But seeing as I've got no money, no job and no change on either of those in sight, I sadly won't be able to have a title and access to the new features.

I'm definitely going to buy it as soon as my loan comes in. This is the only internet community I've ever really felt like a part of, and I want to show my appreciation.
Already have. I've been here so long I feel that I owe them something for all the free entertainment I've received. Plus iPhone videos and podcasts are something I'd really find useful. I mean $10 not bad at all.
No fucking chance! I'd rather give the money to Yahtzee directly and judging by the quality of some of the more recent videos they've stuck up on here if I was a member I'd be demanding my money back.
I may do the first year at $10, but there's really no reason to IMO. You get a custom member title and HQ videos and that's pretty much it, and neither one of those things are actually necessary.
Bitching aside, I would REALLY like to thank The Escapist for not blocking out better features (like Zero Punctuation or certain areas of the current forum)with the implementation of this system. It's why I love you.
