Used console games are a bloody ripoff at most places.
Then you should be using Amazon.com and Ebay like everyone, instead.

Buying in bulk, I've paid less than $1 a piece for some games.
Um, I do use both of those places, quite frequently. And rarely do I find prices that I find acceptable for recent used console games. Steam has spoiled me.

That's not to say good deals can't be had (duh), but as a whole, the prices of used console games have inflated to a point that I'm not comfortable with.

Honestly, I probably won't buy it even if it doesn't. Consoles have lately started doing all the things that made me choose using consoles over a PC, and this is one of them. So I'll just stick to the PC.

I don't buy used games. I don't rent games. I don't care about used/rented games whatsoever. If I want a game, I research it until I'm sure I want it, then buy it new.

MY problem is more with the idea of digital distribution.

By all means go with it on the next era of consoles, but screw you if we don't get at least 1TB of space in that damn thing.

If you want us to only download things onto our hard drives, firstly, we need a Steam style account that remembers our purchases, in case of hardware failure.

Secondly, you need to stop screwing your customers for stupidly overpriced storage. There's going to be zero reason to charge your customers more than $100 for a 1TB drive, and that's me being generous, the days of asking $60 for 20gb are over. We'll be factoring in cost of storage as an additional cost on top of the games if it's not dirt cheap.

No I wouldn't. I'll repeat what I said earlier. What happens when the games are discontinued? I'm not going digital because Canada's ISPs are greedy fucks, I can barely surf the internet without going over the monthly cap let alone downloading a 10gig game.

It would probably be a dealbreaker for me. I like being able to use my game on a friend's console, and I like being able to buy games that I'm more "meh" about for significantly cheaper.

The Deal Breaker for the 720, for me, is exclusives.

Halo doesn't interest me

No sports/racing games interest me

Gears of War has remained a nice distraction but certainly nothing to buy a console over

Mass effect ends in March.

So really, Unless they start building up some cool exclusives for their next console I will be doing with it what I did with my PS3 - Buy it several years after it comes out for cheaper and hopefully a better-than-original model too. By that time the exclusives will be fairly cheap anyway.

THAT being said I will take not-playing-used-games into consideration.

I did the same with my PS3.....best deal ever I think (considering the exclusives)

though I wouldnt call Mass effect an xbox exclusive, considering it was always on the PC...and even less so now since its on PS3

as far as xbox exclusives go....hahaha I cant even think of any

except for gears...gaaahhh fuck what they did with gears :( I would have been interested

I've been on the fence as to whether or not I want to purchase the next generation of consoles. The cost of the consoles just keeps going up and with so few differences between each console in terms of exclusivity the premium for playing the few exclusives is just way too high.
But if I did buy a console the next generation it wouldn't stop me from buying the next iteration of the Xbox because as a PC gamer I've had to deal with what is essentially a non existent used game market since the advent of cd keys. This happened on the pc over like 10 years ago and the PC gaming world is still kicking and the users have accepted it.
It might be a tough pill to swallow for console users but honestly people will learn to deal with it and move on.

Assuming the next playstation or (god forbid) the Wii U don't have that same limitation, I would probly just jump ship, Im only an xbox gamer because its just the first console I opted to buy, and I saw no reason to spend more money. But if were upgrading console generation anyways, it wont be long before a non current device just isn't worth buying games for.

On the other hand if they all do it and it just becomes a thing, Ile probly stick with xbox just for the familiarity and the ability to keep my gamertag and its years of cheevos.

Well, considering A: I am dirt poor and can barely afford to buy the games I do and B: most of my games for the 360 and original are used, yes it would a be deal-breaker. I can't really afford anything else but old, out of print, used games (or the occasional old, out of print, new game). That would mean that I essentially can't get any games for the thing, and if I can't get any games for it, why should I purchase it? Not giving Microsoft money just so I can get a fancy brick that won't play most of the games I could afford to get for it.

This is a great point, even if the concept of blocking used games wasn't complete bullshit and practically un-enforcable.

My friends and I like to swap games, but given that Microsoft have went out of their way so that now I can't even put my newest OS on all my computers I can actually see them pulling something like this.

But if they did, you can bet Sony would try it too.

I'm not going to be buying it anyway, but even I think doing that is a dick move.

What about "I wouldn't get it anyway, 'cause Microsoft are still ignoring my platform of choice."?

But (to put this in another frame of reference) if Sony tried the same thing, I think I would think long and hard before committing. The idea of being locked into a platform holder/publisher's chosen price bracket forever is not an appealing one, esp. considering how overly stingy non-Valve companies tend to be with price drops.

Huh, that's funny, I rarely find console games to be particularly expensive. It's true that rarities like Rule of Rose can be kinda pricey.

But I paid around $10 for Tekken 6, Eternal Sonata, Valkyria Chronicles, Resonance of Fate, Star Ocean: The Last Hope, Folklore, Blue Dragon, Disgaea 3, Deathsmiles, Battle Fantasia, Muramasa: The Demon Blade, Cooking Mama, Cooking Mama: World Kitchen, Cooking Mama: Cook Off, Epic Mickey, Fragile Dreams: Farewell Ruins of the Moon, Harvest Moon: Animal Parade, Harvest Moon: Magical Melody, Harvest Moon: Tree of Tranquility, and just about any game I've bought for the XBOX360, Nintendo Wii, or PlayStation 3.

Most I've payed for recent games, are full price for Tales of the Abyss for the 3DS, about $60. Full price for Fatal Frame IV, about $90, Deathsmiles Limited Edition, Tales of Vesperia Limited Edition, Tales of Vesperia PS3 Japanese, Tales of Xillia full price, or ect. But those aren't used game purchases.

Like how pirates like to download before they buy, I like to buy used before paying full price most times. It saves me money in the short term, meaning that I have more money for later if I do want to buy something new. And I do so very cheaply, rarely spending more than $20 per game. And even, quite frequently, around $10. Sometimes, when it comes to old systems, about $1 per game.

Yeah it would be a deal breaker. Considering all through my childhood I borrowed games, and lent them out. I still do that with friends. I am not rich, and don't wanna rent games through gamefly etc.

There is no reason for them blocking used games besides squeezing more money from people.
