Poll: Will you buy the Xbox 720 if the rumors that it blocks used game usage are true?

i play almost all of my games (well, GAME. i pretty much only play tf2) on my mac, so i don't buy many games for the 360. the games i do buy for 360, i buy day one because i want them really bad. so it wouldn't really affect me, so no. but i wouldn't run out and buy it the day it day one. i would wait for a few games i really want first.

More, actually, thanks to a flood in Thailand that fucked the manufacturing park where a significant portion of the world's HDDs were manufactured. Prices have risen 50-100%.

see most people would take that as bad news, in my eyes it gives rise to ssd's which need to grab a market share to take over from the platter based technology. At least they need it before any real investment can be made to reduce the price to acceptable levels.

Solid state tech is still too expensive for most people although it's pretty much killed the market for high RPM platter tech...

'Sides... I don't see console manufacturers rushing out to add in another expensive piece of kit that they'll have to subsidise the cost of for 5 years, especially when it's one that won't influence most of their target market... not when switching up to 7200rpm HDDs would be a performance improvement for consoles.

The only way this would not put me off the system is if the games were all downloadable through maybe a partnership with steam which probally won't happen (see PSP GO). The point of it is that game stores don't have the space for every game so 10 years after rellease when its successor comes out will i still be able to find games for it if I'm restricted from the used market. Probally not.

That stopped being an Xbox exclusive a year ago when ME2 was polished up from its 360 version and released on the PS3.

I am aware of that, but since the first one -is- an exclusive and the proper way to play mass effect is by importing and exporting saves there is little point (unless you don't own an Xbox) in buying the first one for one platform and the second for another.

The entire series may as well be exclusive as there is no good reason, whatsoever, to buy ME2 or ME3 for another system if you own an Xbox and ME1. Thats why I have it up there - Currently Mass effect is the only game I will be buying for the 360 this year...if not ever again...and it only has that pleasure because of ME1 being exclusive to it.

I don't buy used games, there is pretty much no market for them at this point anyway with all the codes and crap, maybe the 720 will find a way to not force you to input codes.

That sounds ridiculously implausible. What about your local video store hiring games out? It would destroy that industry. You wouldn't be able to share games, take them round to a friends to play co-op. I don't see that ever happening.

Yes. Simply put, if I learn about a game that I missed on a console while I could still pick it up in retail, and it's gone out of production, I'd just buy it used off of Amazon. There's often a lot of gems for game consoles that I (as well as a lot of other people) miss while they're still on store shelves.

I don't see the big deal, if I want to play old games my 360 is working just fine, I don't see why I would buy a new console to play old games.

Mass Effect stopped being an Xbox exclusive around 6 months after it's release when the PC version launched.

Ill give you that, but the PC version is a shoddy port and has GfWL. So its not worth bringing it up unless you really want to play Mass Effect 1 and you either dont have a 360 or cant find a copy.

Then again, I'm mostly a PC gamer. So this wouldn't be much of a sacrifice for me. I only recently bought a 360!

I have never even played a Playstation before, but if this rumor is true than I would definitely abandon the Xbox. How exactly are the planning to "used game" proof the Xbox?

The only thing that would get me to buy the 720 is a legitimate new Viva Pinata. Otherwise I can't recall the last game I played on the 360.

It's just...so boring...none of the exclusives are interesting to me.

Screw that! The only reason I can afford to get the games I do is because they're used.

Depends. Most of my games I buy new so it wouldn't really affect me but I would want to see three things happen

1) A price drop $60 is getting to be a pain in the ass and now I have to wait for the price to go down. Devs like to ***** an moan about how used games cost them money, but if everyone were forced to buy new this would expand their user base, so they can charge less while getting more money.

2) Some way for me to play my games on a friends xbox. If I go over to someones house I don't want to have to lug my entire system over just so we can play split screen.

3) Continued support for old games. Most of my used purchases are old games that are difficult to find. Microsoft needs to keep old games accessible. This would be fairly easy if the console had some kind of digital distribution that was reasonably priced.


There are a couple other deal breakers for me but none have anything to do with the anti-piracy features

Every single other industry on the planet can get by with used sales, why has the video game industry suddenly become so fragile. Oh wait, it hasn't. Just greedy corporations who need even more cash.
