I got it a few days ago and I actually like it. It still has some stuff I hate (yes SideBar I mean you) but it's pretty good.

I love Windows 7.
I got it for free through a University program, and it's great.
Boots faster, it's got some cool little features, and I haven't had it hang up on me yet.
*karate chops wood*
Installing it was really easy, too.
But a word of warning: if you upgrade from Vista, you will probably need to look up an updated video card driver if you want to use it.
My university has that software alliance too, it's awesome :D
Seriously. I heard about it through a friend, and since I was in a Computer Science course, I just decided to upgrade after a particularly annoying crash.
So worth it!
Whoever implemented that program needs a medal or something

I'll stick with my XP.

I shall only move on till XP becomes obselete !
It's been obselete since windows '98 was released. Yes, '98 was the better system dammit, XP cannot do anything 98 can't do better..

Moving on from "it's pointless and therefore redundant" to it has no 64 bit support, and performs poorly with multi-core processors. XP has been completely redundant since vista RC2 was released, the only people stick with it is because it's familiar.

OT: Not had a chance to check out 7 yet, my vista version has been modded to my liking and I can't be bothered toying with a new OS (at least not until after exams). I'm yet to hear a bad thing about it, though.
Saying that '98 is better than XP is like saying that a punch in the face is better than a gigantic ice cream cone. o_O

'98 was good for its time, but XP was MUCH more stable. 98 (and Vista too... go figure) would just crash on me whenever it felt like it, but the only times I ever experienced serious problems while my computer was running XP were because of virii.

On topic, my dad put Windows 7 on his computer. He likes it so far.

I'm tempted to buy it because I have a laptop running 32-bit Vista Ultimate with 4GB of RAM... it's so annoying knowing only 3GB of it is getting used.

Ok. Today is the day. Many have had this thing on pre-order. You may have queued up for it even. Perhaps, you are installing it right now and not looking at the site as a result. Apparently, it will sell more than Harry Potter. What I would like to know is what you think of it. I'm adding a poll, but feel free to describe your favourite feature, report a bug, or design snafu, or complain about something you think was missed out.

By the way, there is no 'Other' option in the poll as you can't vote if you only use OS X or Linux. I'm asking new, Windows 7 users only, and not those who have played with the Beta.
I used the beta for over 6 months and I loved it.....Does that count? It was a fantastic operating system. It ran faster, had a sleeker UI, all around I loved it

There should be an Other or at least a "I like Vista" option.
Agreed. I haven't looked at Windows 7 yet and I prfer Vista anyway. I've never had any problems with Vista and I've had it for well over a year. As a result, I'm sticking to Vista, at least for now. I therefore refuse to vote in the poll itself...

I'm glad you liked the Beta. When you eventually buy it and install the real thing, feel free to vote and post your definitive opinion of it.

If I get a new PC I'll get Windows 7. At the moment my Laptop is probably just good enough to run it, but it belongs to the University so no new OSs.

I've been using windows 7 for quite a while, i downloaded the beta and its better than vista but not this amazing revolutionary thing. It has the upgrades that should have been done when vista was out. I've not had too many problems with it so far.

Why isn't there an option like "i'm sticking to Vista"?

There was nothing wrong with Vista, and i spent 4000 $ on my PC, i really don't know what people are complaining about Vista...

Sure, it doesn't work on crap computers, but that doesn't mean that the Operating System sucked...

People just keep saying it sucks because their PC knowledge sucks, and because their PC's are cheap...
This. My friend has a top range dell xps and runs XP on it, only reason being he had tried to run vista on a laptop with only 2GB memory before that.

OT. Im sticking with vista for a bit longer as I expect W7 will have plenty of kinks that will need to be worked out.

I wish that there was an other option so you can post your own view on the subject.

I was listening to NPR this morning and I heard it was just supposed to be a bit better than the original windows vista released approximately 3 years ago, so i am not sure what my first thoughts of it are.

I currently use a Mac, but I had a vista operating system on my old Acer, and I must say it was not compatible with some of the software i was looking for, made me quite angry.

I'll probably buy it and put it on my Mac, i'm not sure though

As a student of software engineering that has had the full version for free for about 2 months now (MSDN), I've got to say that it is all but revolutionary. Sure, it will look and feel different on first glance, but after a few weeks of usage you will notice it is just like vista with a new design.
The level of stability is well bellow that of Vista (Granted, I'm comparing a 2 month old software with a 2 and a half year old OS with 2 service packs and loads of fixes)
As for resources usage, it is slightly lighter than Vista, but then again most people were using windows XP, and it is way more heavy than XP.
It does have a massive advantage... 15 secs to boot, half of that to shutdown... but for someone that mainly has the computer on 24/7 it doesn't really change much :).

In my opinion, if you can get a free or cheap upgrade, then by all means take it. It's definitely a progress in terms of technology. But if you are going to pay full price expecting to find a completely difference OS from what you have been using, then you might as well just get themes to make XP look like it or stick with Vista, which is still superior.

It's alright, nothin to go crazy over.

Just like Google Chrome, it's meh, not that great really.
Chrome is hilariously bad. Why did google need a new PROCESS for each tab? Not even a new thread, a new glomping process. Honestly?
Not only they crash individually, if a tab does crash, but it's also great for pages that due to some bug or bad engineering create a memory leak on your browser. You individually shut that page and its fixed. If that happens on firefox it just keeps accumulating memory usage, to the point I've had mine take close to 1GB of memory after 24~36 hours opened. Not that I don't love firefox, it just has too many cool plugins to give up.

Please excuse me reiterating this, but as I made it clear in the OP:

So, as you admit you haven't installed and used the actual thing yet, there is no option for you to pick.

Perhaps, another thread on this subject would suit you in the meantime. This one is meant for actual users of the final product released today.

I'll be interested to discover how you think it compares to Snow Leopard as I think the interfaces have converged somewhat over the years.

Indeed. Vista is the best OS I've used since Win2k. I'm sure people got miffed about it when they tried its beta versions but I didn't even touch the OS before SP1. And thus I've avoided all the trouble.

Frankly, I could just mod my Vista to say Windows 7 and then I would have the new fancy OS for free!

Obviously you don't know much about computers if you spent $4000. You probably got ripped off by a salesman or bought Alienware. I had a top of the range system I spent around £1000 on and built myself when Vista came out. Vista crashed and fucked up my computer three times.
