Why isn't there an option like "i'm sticking to Vista"?

There was nothing wrong with Vista, and i spent 4000 $ on my PC, i really don't know why people are complaining about Vista...

Sure, it doesn't work on crap computers, but that doesn't mean that the Operating System sucked...

People just keep saying it sucks because their PC knowledge sucks, and because their PC's are cheap...
Indeed. Vista is the best OS I've used since Win2k. I'm sure people got miffed about it when they tried its beta versions but I didn't even touch the OS before SP1. And thus I've avoided all the trouble.

Frankly, I could just mod my Vista to say Windows 7 and then I would have the new fancy OS for free!
Hahahaha. No. No no no no no.

I've been forced to use Vista at my school for over a year and a month and I detest it more than I detested Windows 95. Slow, problematic... It crashed more times during those 2-hour sessions at school than my Windows XP or Windows 7 in a week. Or month, when we consider PC crashes, not just TF2 crashes.

Sorry, but even Microsoft didn't plan on supporting Vista for too long. XP support will last till 2014, Vista's till 2012. There's no explaination other than "Vista was a paid beta, suckers".

In 3 years of using Vista, UAC has helped me block lots of unauthorised programs and viruses from running on my PC...

That, along with my firewall, antivirus and Windows Defender has kept my PC free of Viruses, and i have yet to format it, after 3 years...
Wow. I'm impressed.

My SONY VAIO Notebook got Windows 98 reinstalled on it thirty-two times. It seems a bit happier with 2000 now.

I have yet to experience a crash or a BSOD...

Those school PCs' must be crap...

To me, Vista is flawless, but i do intend to switch to Win 7 anyway, because everyone is singing it's praises, and the RC i tested was pretty awesome :)
Oh God. Vista FLAWLESS?! Jesus Christ... Let's start with being a performance hog and requiring 1GB of RAM more than games on XP/7? Also, another flaw - in a bit more than 2 years, Vista's support goes bye bye and you are left without anything. Technical support, patches, developer support...

I've used it, and its comprable to Vista (Which I'm on now). I like its install feature and its ability to grab drivers from old windows OS's. I'm not a fan of its control panel as I couldn't find a way to put it into classic view (Which is like 1234567million times better) and I prefere the Vista task bar as I find the Win 7 one too chunky.

It's good though, I might get it some day but now I'm fine with Vista.

For people like me, performance hogs are not an issue...

Unlike some of you poor bastards, i have money to spend on my computer, and that is not a problem for me...

My computer can handle everything i throw at it...
I know how you feel. Phenom II/i7 for the win, amirite?

OT: I've had Win7 Pro x64 (legit) running for about a month now, and I don't miss XP in the slightest.

And your making PC gamers look like elitists, and that's not a good thing.

I don't see why you would want a bigger operating system if you just want to play games. XP is great for me, Vista and Windows 7 will just increase demands on my computer. I want a computer that will play games, not have fancy, frilly things to make you think you've just bought something important, rather than an operating system with a few extra features for a few hundred extra dollars.

I've glimpsed it. From what I can tell, visually it's not too different from Vista, except for the start button which seems to think it's a lightbulb. But it does have other eye candy features I've seen and like and that matters more to me than most things so yeah, it's good, but it does look alot like vista still.

Also, my processors are Intel® Core? i7-965 Extreme Edition OC'd to 3.8 GHz
Somebody actually bought that overpriced processor? I think I reserve the right to facepalm. The Core i7-920 overclocks nearly as much, yielding roughly comparable performance when overclocked, yet is one-quarter of the price.

The i7-965 has just about the worst price-to-performance ratio of any consumer-level processor. I mean, if you had money to burn, why the hell did you waste your money on that instead of buying a technically superior Intel Xeon or AMD Opteron quad-core? They use Opterons at the supercomputer level, not Core i7s. At least with that, you'd be able to brag about having components outside the realms of the consumer market. All you have right now is an over-expensive consumer processor and and over-elaborate cooling system.

As it stands, you're going to look pretty sheepish when the hexa-core Core i9 processors are released next year, probably at the same price point as your i7-965 was at release. The point also stands, mainly as a point of comparison, that my theoretical 16-core, quad-processor system configuration would outperform your machine at the same price range, even if you would need Linux to take advantage of it. Frankly, I'd rather have the four blades of that system than a top-end PC. At least you'd be able to separate them for LAN party action.
I'm saving my money up for the Intel Polaris.

I am very sorry to inform you that Windows XP does not support Direct X 10 or 11...
That is why you need a new OS ever few years...

On the other hand, if you want to play games with Counter Strike Source level graphics for the rest of your life, stick to windows XP...

I, for one, like eye candy!
Well, I can play Crysis on full detail with XP, and Dawn of War II on full detail, so I think I'm good.

I'm not a big fan of art, so I don;t care as much as you. I would need to have spent 1.5-2 grand on a computer rather than the one grand I spent on my current desktop. I like having money, so I chose to not go with the XTREME expensive model.

I bought this computer:
http://www.memoryexpress.com/Products/PID-MX26167(ME).aspx

I could have gone with the more expensive ones (mines second least expensive) but once you get up there I thought that a lot of the cost would be in the fancy computer case. These are all the options I had to choose from:

Could you tell me what Direct X is though? I've heard about it, just don't know much about it.

Well as I'm a student I'm getting it for £30, but not touching it till the guys who did Vlite and Xlite work their magic for Windows 7.

From what i've read/seen some ideas a good...shame they had to go and be gimmicky and add a touch screen feature. I call it gimmicky because there are very little practical uses for it.
Watch out, there is problems with that version. Link: http://www.engadget.com/2009/10/23/windows-7-student-upgrade-installer-not-working-for-many/
