I just had the general needle anasthetic which numbs your mouth, I remember it sounded like a cork popping when one got pulled out, it was for the best though as my teeth have slid over the gap where the teeth had been it would be very painful if they were still in there

I've had one pulled, but she said 'I'll try, but if it's not coming easy, I'll book you a hospital place to get it taken out'. She wiggled it and it came out fairly easy, I was doped up with the injections, but still, the feeling of it tearing away from the gum etc was kinda eww.

I've had 4 pulled with local anaesthetic, the only painful bit was the injections and that was when I was 14.

Too many people are pussies according to the poll.

Part of me wants to stay up, since going under is very unpleasant for me. On the other hand, I am such a wuss when it comes to dental pain... Even when I have local anaesthetic, the mere thought of what is going on, is enough to make my mind conjure pain.

Luckily, my wisdom teeth didn't need pulling.

I had mine pulled a few months ago. I decided to stay up for the whole thing, primarily because the thought of being knocked out completely was a little disconcerting, I knew I'd feel really really groggy the rest of the day, and I'd have to not eat dinner the previous night. ich. Luckily it went just great, took maybe 30 minutes at most (my teeth were all erupted, only reason I had to take them out was they were starting to fall apart for some likely-nutritional reason.) I felt absolutely nothing for the first tooth, didn't even realize it was done. The second tooth I felt pressure that seemed like it might get further into pain, I made some noise, and the surgeon says "felt something there? we can fix that!" and just gave me some more numbing shots. Didn't feel anything for the rest of the procedure.

Of course, about 3-4 months later I got appendicitis and had to go under anyway...which was actually kinda fun. Supposedly the sentences I thought I was saying as it was taking effect came out as gargling nonsense, but its amazing how fascinating fluorescent lights can be.

I just got mine pulled about 10 hours ago. Quite frankly, I don't see what all the fuss is about.

Even after the numbing passed, it only felt like I was clenching my jaw.

Yeah, I went under. I had been napping before the surgery; when I got to the surgery chair / bed / thing, I had been waiting for so long that I almost fell back asleep from boredom.

You know how when you go to sleep, and you can't remember the moments before falling asleep? It was like that. One moment I'm putting an oxygen tube in my nose, and the next I'm in a patient bed two hours later.

Two hours during surgery? No, thank you. I was bored enough as it was.

I had mine pulled just this Tuesday. I went under. It was fantastic. One minute, I'm shivering in fear, because they're sticking wires and needles all over my body, and the surgeon makes a joke about having to go light on the anesthetic because I'm a lightweight. The next minute, I wake up numbed and a bit disoriented, but otherwise fine. They took me to a recovery room to lie down, while they called up my mom to pick me up. I actually didn't feel much pain after getting home. I just felt physically drained. I plopped myself down and watched a shit ton of movies, occasionally getting up to change gauze pads. And after the numbing agent wore off, I hopped myself up on Vicodin.

The worse bit is having to eat soft foods. All I had the day of surgery was two bowls of oatmeal. I was starving. The next day I tried my hand at a cup of instant noodles. It took 20 minutes of concentrated willpower for me to finish it.

I had all 3 (yes, I only grew 3) pulled at the same time while under. I liked it better that way because I woke up at home the next day, but I was still bleeding. This was because one of them was so far up it was touching my sinus, and they had to take a melon baller-like device to my gums to remove it. All-in-all, it wasn't too bad. Vicodin made everything better.

i would go under and the only reason my wisdom teeth have not already been pulled is because we can't afford the braces that i apparently need

had all 4 of mine removed while under the effects of novacaine and laughing gas while awake and since i read a pamphlet of what was going to happen i could follow what they were doing based on the pressure on the unsensitive areas all the way from when they cun my gums to when they cracked my teeth in two to when they removed them to when they sewed them back up over the empty tooth spaces

All 4 pulled, one of them neede to be cut out with a scalpel since it was growing sideways towards my cheek.

Only shots containing local anestethics and adrenaline were used in all cases; numb that part of the mouth and we're good to go. And it was quite sufficient. No need to waste anything stronger than that.

I would imagine that I would have no problems with any pain. I just don't feel comfortable with anyone taking stuff out of my mouth. It's really not comfortable. On the other hand, going under is not too fun either. I'm honestly not sure.

I had one wisdom tooth removed after my jaw was broken, so I think I had to be put under because the surgeon was doing more than just removing the tooth. Throughout my life though, I have had 12 teeth pulled and I was just on nitrous oxide for those.

Well that maybe the case, but have fun with the unconscious part of your enjoyment.

I had my wisdom teeth removed. They actually had to remove a small piece of bone to get one of them out. The oddest part was when they cracked them. I was drifting like I would almost fall asleep, then something would happen and I would snap back. I remember pretty much the entire thing. The gas was not enough to keep me under.

I had mine removed under local anesthetic and oh god do I wish I had gone under (I wasn't given a choice.) It's a fucking horror show, all the sounds and sights are memories I have already blocked out.

I went under to have three of my wisdoms extracted in a single surgery (two lower jaw one upper). I remember entering the surgery room on the bed and then waking up in post-op. I was given Vicodin for any pain after surgery (allergic to Codeine according to my father), and I don't remember having any pain at all. I am glad I went under because I would have rather not been awake knowing that someone was shoving a knife into my gums to violently rip out three of my teeth. I have had two experiences with Vicodin (the teeth, and a second degree burn caused by boiling water in science class), and the comedians are right, Vicodin doesn't kill the pain, it just makes you forget and not care that you have any.

I'm not sure what I'd do. All 4 of my wisdom teeth are impacted so I imagine I'll need to get them removed eventually. I think I'd rather be knocked out just so I don't feel completely bored during the operation. But then I would like to know what's going on. It's a difficult decision.
oh god, I feel your pain. Mine are impacted too, and I can't decide either. Mostly because I hate the dentist and am avoiding it like hell. ;-;

I had all 4 of my wisdoms taken out while awake, I don't see what the fuss is about, after they numb your mouth you don't feel anything, one sounded like a cork popping when it came out whats annoying is having a numb mouth which keeps leaking blood for hours afterwards. Good thing I did have it, my teeth have closed up entirely on the gaps that were left, if I'd left them in I imagine it would have been ugly and painful.
