The woman gets no sympathy from me, but I don't really know what the point of the question is. Honestly, I'm more concerned for the kid than anyone else. Is he going to remain in the custody of that psycho while she's under house arrest?

-Drug induced
-Tortured a person

People are only applauding this in the same way that most people picture their revenge fantasies playing out in real life. They are placing their 'want for vengeance' onto the act this woman has committed.

...That's the only way I can rationalise it. It's fucked and the only explanation is incredible, infantile immaturity on the side of the spectators of the news.

Well read the details:
- she just cut him not cut anything off*
- she was under the influence of drugs*
- first time offender
- the victim didn't want her to get locked up either
- at the end of the day she still has kids relying on her*

I starred the parts that worry me the most about this case; this women is using drugs that cause her to have paranoid thoughts, then to act with quit horrible violence (kidnapping and mutilating someone is not a minor thing), and she still has kids around. Frankly, that horrifies me. What if she does another round of whatever set her off and decides the kids is plotting against her? Now, I'm usually not going to come after someone just for getting high as long as it's away from the kids, but with someone with this kind of violent behavior while high, I get really, really worried. She really shouldn't have the kid in the house anymore.

Edit.

This is not a gender issue. Drugs make people do stupid things, and in this very thread we have people demanding we don't fight drugs. Which is mildly troubling by itself.

You know what is a gender issue though? The thousands of girls having their genitals mutilated by various sects or religions, and the even more numerous domestic abuse cases that result in serious injury for the woman because the guy is too high/drunk, those aren't newsworthy. But the genders are reversed once, and it makes so many headlines that we have a discussion about it on a video-game website.

That's what we call inequality kids.

Er...the practice of Female Genital Mutilations within various Islamic cultures is one of the common things used to attack Muslims in general. Possibly it has been eclipsed by using terrorism to demonise them, and certainly it's not unique to or omnipresent throughout Islam, but it's commonly brought up, because there are parts of Islam that definitely do that.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Female_genital_mutilation#Europe_and_the_United_States

Not practiced as much in europe/us, more in secrecy (THough believe me, it DOES happen). But then, I live in europe so the case discussed here is just as much overseas news.
