I've never played WaW, but from what I've heard about it I don't plan to any time soon, either. Modern Warfare, on the other hand, is a brilliant game with a strong storyline.
On a related note, there seems to be a cameo in Mile High Club for David Mitchell, a British comedian (anyone else notice his voice saying "Target Neutralised", or is it just me going crazy?).

Modern Warfare was probably the most fun I've ever had (baring the Half-Life series) playing single-player. WaW, on the other hand, didn't really feel all that impressive when I played it. Of course, I'm not usually a WWII-game fan, and mostly the reason I bought it was for the zombies. Oh, and then there's the fact that my mid-end PC can run MW just fine at about halfway-decent graphics, and WaW looks like someone threw up on a turbine...

I absolutely love Modern Warfare (the game, not the real thing), so it's my pick.
I'm really looking forward to Modern Warfare 2!

COD4, all the way.

Treyarch's attempts to be edgy and realistic end up being laughable and sophomoric.

Also, they made the MP40 into a weapon of mass destruction. Online balance = nonexistant. Science help you if decide to use a scoped weapon; the MP40ers will just ironsight-countersnipe your ass from across the map, and do it one shot.

COD4, of course. It was a pretty interesting leap for Infinity Ward to try their hand at a modern conflict, and it went very well. Treyarch, on the other hand, just played it safe, and churned out another mediocre WWII game using a lot of stuff developed for COD4.

The way I see it, Treyarch's like that awkward friend. You know, the one you don't want to get rid of, yet no one particularly likes. Yeah...

I still don't know how people can say WaW has just as good if not better graphics. CoD 4 is the best game! MW2 going to be the greatest thing ever!

I like MW a ton more than WaW. So much so that I traded in WaW for a few old games because I knew I'd enjoy them way more than I could ever like WaW.

Edit: I also feel that WaW is pretty much MW with WWII skins thrown on top. So nothing really made me go WOW with amazement on that one.

I was the guy that voted for World at War.
Almost me too buddy, almost me too...

I voted for both. They both kicked ass and were frustrating in their own ways, but both were enjoyable playing experiences.

I hate either or threads, especially for the Call of Duty series.

Also, CoD:MW was the best in my opinion.

CoD4 is the most realistic FPS that I've played. I think the setting of using modern weapons adds to that realism, because it's stuff we see all the time on the news.
I hate it when people call MW "realistic." IT ISN'T. Ever played a little game called Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six 3?

Haven't played World At War, but Modern Warfare and it's tight, exciting action and storytelling really impressed me.
Thanks for saying what I was thinking! *Pats your shoulder*

Modern Warfare, definately. They're both awesome but its just that touch better.
Although, if MW had a zombie survival level, it'd win by a landslide.

modern warfare, world at war seemed like a graphics upgrade of cod3 with only a black cat section added (play as up and coming sniper, drive tank etc etc), while modern could add new environments/weapons/issues (nukes every where, icbm's...)

what would be interesting would be some alternate reality war games ie what if the anti castro cubans had gotten the air support, what if russia didn't pull out nukes from cuba...hmm maybe i just want to go to cuba?

I have indeed (several versions of it actually), and I do not find it as realistic.

CoD4 was refreshing in that it brought the action out of WWII and into America's war in the middle east, complete with all of the moral questionability of that war. With WAW, we go back to being heroes in WWII, a concept that has been done to death in both Call of Duty and Medal of Honor. One of the best selling points of CoD4 for me was that you weren't playing the testosterone-sweating action man all the time; he was merely a concurrent storyline. The story was well-told and original; you could identify with the main character (i.e. you're just as new to this as he is); the weapons and camoflauge were things you saw on the news; and the graphics were fantastic, even on PC. It was an exceptionally well-made game except for the friendly AI.
