Saying and doing are two very different things. As much as I'd like to, the answer is likely "Hell no." I'm quite fond of being alive, thanks. This so called stranger would have to be pretty damned important to 90% of everyone else on the planet before I try to pull that "heroic sacrifice" crap.

Also, I'm fourteen. I'd like to give life a chance to ruin me before I go giving it up.

Not for a stranger. The only people that matter to me are my friends and family, so that's where my self sacrifice would land instead.

No, I simply couldn't: survival instincts are much too strong. Even if I wanted to I doubt I have the will to bring myself to do it, very few people do, in a split second that is.

Besides, I really don't want to, at lest not now when I'm 16.

I would sacrifice myself for a stranger in a second. Why? It's just the type of person I am. I would feel terrible if I just let someone die just so I could live. No I am not suicidal. No it has nothing to do with my religious beliefs. I just feel if it came down to it I would rather save another persons life by giving up my own than letting them die knowing I could have done something about it.

A complete stranger? No. Period. Why the hell would I?

Wow, I didn't realize how many selfish people we have on the Escapist.
You think that a desire to preserve your own life is selfish? That's fucked up.
It's not like life is so fantastic. It's not something I would cling to if letting go of it would help someone else.

What I wonder is why so many Escapists cling to it as they do.

Not so into dying for other people, chances are they wouldn't do it for me if they could. So, I doubt it, unless I knew he was the next MLK or Ghandi. For my sisters or my niece and nephew tho... without question I would.

I would have to know all the facts before i even consider it. It would just feel a bit odd dying for someone you don't know anything about.

Hmm, depends. If they are outnumbered by overwhelming odds and the attack isn't revenge motivated then possibly.

Sorry to sound unheroic, but hell no.

Id do stuff to help if i could, but not give my life.

I would without a second thought. Unless the risk is too big (the risk of us both dying that is) or the person is morbidly obese / very old making the rescue very hard or risky

No. Unless it was guaranteed that the person was minutes away from finding a cure for cancer or something.

I would push them in front of a bus.

I don't see the point in dying for one person I don't know when I could probably find some way to die and save a lot more than one person. Like, for my organs or something.

If I knew what they did and what potential value they have then maybe. If not then

No. People might say that my life is not more important than their's but by that logic their's isn't worth more than mine so it's like swapping a dollar for another dollar except you don't know if the other dollar is a fake.
This is the logic I'd apply so I'd let them die.

I was asked this the other day and my response was: You can fuck right off.

However, I'll be nicer here. No, I wouldn't because them dying wouldn't affect me in the slightest, sort of like "out of sight, out of mind" so I would just forget about it.
