sniping shouldn't stay out of a game, but snipers should be in sniper only matches.

No, shooters have a lot in common with RPGs in regards to play style and class choices, every weapon group has it's purpose and advantages and disadvantages. Variety is the spice of life.
Pretty much this, snipers are a legitimate tactical option, and removing them would remove alternatives to twitchy-finger shooting and grenade spamming (I'm exaggerating some, but FPS's would lose their strategic edge).

Of course I'm rather biased, since my best class in TF2 (though it's map-dependent) is the sniper.

But i don´t want to learn how to play, i want to have fun, and snipers destroy my fun.
And this is why this poll is pointless. You want to play a game that requires a refined amount of skill, but don't want to put any effort into getting said skill. IF that's how you want to play video games, I have a disappointing reality for you: all video games operate at that level! Heck, all games period operate at that level! So you have to make a choice:

1. Actually learn how to play the game you're playing.

2. Stop playing that game.

It seems like a kind of valid reflex test though. If i see you and you see me at the same time, who ever gets the first shots (providing they hit), should win that little skirmish (also providing the hand of god *lag* doesn't say one person fired while the other didn't).
It's not valid at all, lowest ping always gets there first in the server's eyes, lagging or not.

Worse for console players, host always wins in the event of two twitch shooters meeting face to face. You need ways of getting the drop on opponents or the guy with the most expensive broadband is at an advantage from the start.

Suuuuure.

Because running and spraying bullets is the only legitimate way of playing any FPS. Anything else is for a "f*ggoty a$$ cheating n00b b*tches".

[/sarcasm]
Haha, if anybody didn't get this you should be sniped.

That is acually how i see it.
Than I have only 2 thing to say to you:

1) Quote button. Use it. Love it.

2) Learn to play. Snipers are good, but they have their weaknesses. Locate a sniper and use cover strategically to get close. Than gun him down. Its as easy as 3.14159.
I'm impressed theres not a lot of people around doing math jokes.

hey i did say providing the hand of god (lag) doesn't interfere. I have been the victim of lots of lag matches, and then there are those occasions where i'm the host. The two don't balance out, but all i'm saying is that lag bullshit aside. If one player and another player happen to run into each other and see each other at the same time, the first one to get hits should win the fight... seems logical to me.

I've never played any games wher ethe sniper is imba compared to other weapons.

The only problem i see with it is, that peopel who get sniped and whine about it usually are tards who cannot figure out how to, or doesn't want to adapt their playstyle, and insists that they should be able to run across open fields witha shotgun without getting killed, and whern they can't its obviously cause the otehr team is no life fag n00bs.

Whiners like that need to STFU, learn to play, and realize that their whining makes them look like pathetic anoying n00bs.

In single player and coop games, no. They are great to have.

However, in some online multiplayer games, it is too easy for sniping to be exploited and I don't approve of snipers camping in deathmatches and such. Don't be a coward! Take off your aim assistance hack and get out there with your shotgun and kick butt.

I love sniping so my answer is no, games wouldn't be better off without them.
What annoys me, though, is when you see a sniper that hasn't moved all game, just scoped in on one area...

No, silly question. Its not our fault that you obviously can't avoid loosing you brain during a game, change your gameplay tactics.

Almost every shooter has snipers, I've played quite a few of them, and I don't mind snipers. It's not like they've got an unfair advantage. I can just as well pick up a sniper rifle and wait for them to stick their head out.

Edit: The only time I've got a problem with snipers is in Cod, due to these reasons:
1. Every place has a flanking point, so you can only get about one kill before having to flee.
2. the wobble when sniping. When standing up, I can understrand. It's not easy to have the barrel abselutly still when using a sniper and standing up. My problem with sniping though, is that the wobble still exists WHILE IN PRONE. How is that possible?

No... Yes....uh huh?
I think, the title should be a little more accurate. Is the question about snipers as weapons or sniping tactics in general?

Sniping is the use of a ranged weapon, for an occasional precision shot. A game without sniping, is a game without any ranged offensive capability.

I'm not sure how anyone, can remove sniping. Even if all the guns have the same range, people will still prefer to shoot at the largest range if possible/needed for the situation. So, no. Sniping can't be removed even if we wanted to, without making the game a non-shooter.

And if intended sniper weapons are removed, people will quickly find a substitute for them. Because, pretty much, you can "snipe" with everything ranged.

Again, no. Games won't be really be better without snipers, they just won't be shooters anymore.

No. Without snipers to pick them off everyone would just run around like lemmings on speed. I hate how most online FPS games are turned into reflex tests of who can shoot first by the players.

True, however thats not how I like to play. In a straight reflex test, more often than not I will loose to the guy who plays more often and has spent years training his reflexes. I prefur to stay unseen and strike from a hidden location without the other player ever seeing me.

No. If a game is trying to be realistic there has to be snipers. Also, sniping people is fun.
