Of course they shouldn't! Whose going to shoot the guy carrying the flag in one shot? Who's going to deny access into your base? Who's going to slowly dwindle (Yeah I said dwindle, you got a problem with that!?) the enemy numbers!? Well I guess you can camp with a weak weapon but ...well ...you know ...Whatever! Snipers are neccessary to a game. It adds more need for stealth if there is a good one out there. So yeah, snipers are important.

OffT: I was playing TF2 once and one of the snipers kept requesting a medic. The only medic on the team humorously replied, "No! Snipers aren't part of the team. Go cry about it." I lol'd.

EDIT: Being a sniper in B:BC is alot more fun since it's slower paced, which is the only way to go when you're a sniper.

Snipers are an integral part of any FPS multiplayer. You need to have them in order to make the game more realistic. Plus, there's a strange sort of fun to watching your enemies through a scope and then picking them off whenever you feel like it. Plus they add a heightened sense of danger to the whole thing.

I don't have a problem with snipers really. However in certain games(namely MW2)I would like to have seen the following

1.Limit the amount of snipers on a team.I've played matches where 75% of the players are snipers.1 or 2 should be the max

2.A pistol should be the only secondary weapon. In COD4 the disadvantage of picking a sniper class was that they were pretty crap at close range. Now however they can carry shotguns etc which negates their one weakness

Simple answer:No.

A little more complex answer:No it would not help any games to be better since it would have to cut so many things out.For instance, sniper battles, counter sniping, being an all out dick to new player. It would also take out the little customization there is to classes in FPS's.

Snipers are overpowered so to speak in real life. One man that is really good with a long rifle can hold off whole brigades. Look at some famous snipers: Vassili Zaitsev, Gunnery Sergeant Carlos N. Hathcock, and of course the god of all snipers The White Death. Snipers truly are a one man army. It makes the average soldier think a whole lot more about poking his head above the wall. I love sniping in games especially when it is really realistic. There should be a large barrier to entry and a steep learning curve for a sniper in a game. Being a good sniper should require a whole lot of skill. I also love playing against them because unlike any other "class" in an FPS an opposing sniper can get your heart racing as you frantically try to figure out where he is. Nothing is better than a nerve wracking sniper dual during a huge battle. Love those huge maps that allow for that.

Yes a hundred times for me.
Any eason why? If it's because you keep dying because of them, then you need to seriously improve at the game. If it's because of campers, then either play better or switch to a different server with no/fewer campers. If it's because you're bad at sniping, use a different weapon. And so on.

And in case you hadn't guessed, my answer is no. Snipers are good for shooting games.

None.

Its a personal thing, i don't see the fun in just running up to something holding down a button and waiting for it to die. In the simplest way, that's how I feel.

Learn to play. Snipers are good, but they have their weaknesses

But i don´t want to learn how to play, i want to have fun, and snipers destroy my fun.
Well then, have fun and let others have their fun.

I rarely play sniper (I <3 Pyro), but when I do - nothing beats putting a bullet in between the eyes of some amateur running in the open in a straight line, shooting continuously as if his mouse is jammed.

Its more fun to do that with the Huntsman.
Especially if they're near enough to a wall, so their corpse gets to sit there for a while as a reminder of their failure.
I have to talk about this from the point of view of the newbie with the ping from Hell with a track pad on TF2- its a matter of balancing skills and hardware/internet connection with the other players. Unless its an ungodly hour like 5:00 AM, I'm not going to get consistently under 200 ping at my college dorm- which virtually eliminates playing as a sniper, soldier, spy, demoman, or scout with any real skill. If I'm playing agianst a sniper that's crushing my team single handedly, I may actually be doing whatever I can to distract them in order to protect my teammates. I'd probably be dismissed by that sniper a stupid n00b for trying to build the same turret over and over right in their line of sight, but that's an extra second in which my teammates can get to cover, isn't it? Unless there are multiple snipers, a tactical turret needs only a few seconds to be able to withstand a noncharged shot- then a few more to weather a charged shot, and then hinder the sniper's entire team.

Really, though, if a sniper's making an absolute killing off the other team, they're not displaying their skill to their peers- they're being an asshole whose playing against people obviously not to their skill level.
Same goes for every class and every weapon in every multiplayer game: if you're dominating the enemy team, either go find people up to your skill level, play as something else, or find a way to not ruin the fun of everyone else while doing what you're doing.

But if you win the sniper duel the satisfaction is much more intense I find than if i killed with a sub-machine gun or the like. Especially on games like battlefield 1943, where there is no zoom and you manage to take out a player 2 3rds of the map away...there is an immense sense of pride in that XD
Yes, I must admit that it is quite satisfying to win a sniper duel :p
Yet I find it better to see the sniper and take them out before a duel starts.
Or before they see you and take you out >.<
Gotta be careful... eyes sharp...

For people who don't like snipers, who prefer to blunder around without ever having to watch out for anything. Yes.

For people who like snipers, who like being able to set up in one place, waiting for the perfect moment to acquire the best kill, then move on to a new location to do it again. No.

If the real question behind this is, should we stop camping? then the answer is yes. There is a difference between camping and sniping people. Snipers make a game challenging, and mean you can't go around soaking up damage like a sponge in wide open arenas. Campers just make a game not fun.

Some games yes, some games no. As an example of a game that would be bad with snipers: Mario Strikers Charged.

Sniping is best when realistic. You need to be weak as a baby when not at range, but a god of death across a map. The key is that the game needs to include breathing while looking though the scope, recoil, tunnel vision in scope(this is huge), and no hud identifiers when you target a person. Sniping needs to be friggin hard. It takes a long time to get good enough to be a real sniper and it should be the same for games. The biggest thing that games need is big maps to utilize this. Most games won't give you a large enough map to really make this happen. MW2 does it with some but not even close to real range. You make the snipers gods at range and weaklings up close you have perfect balance. Unless of course you are playing against a real good team. It is amazing how powerful teamwork can become in a FPS. My friend and I have a pretty sweet system where I snipe and he spots. Just like a real sniper team. It helps defeat the biggest weakness of snipers in game. You can't watch your own back and still watch the other side of the map. Being a sniper in game I find them really easy to defeat because I know our big weakness. You have to move after every shot if you don't want to be located and surrounded.

I don't know, third party observers may like seeing Wario picked off right before he blocks a goal. It'd certainly change things up.

Snipers are fine, just so long as you specialise them to the point that they can't do other character's jobs. Quickscoping and semi-automatic sniper rifles run the risk of allowing snipers to engage at closer quarters; good for the snipers, but a pain for everyone else.

TF2 does it right because snipers are fairly useless at close quarters (though a particularly skilled sniper might be able to work around that). Plus, when these snipers aren't just screwing around on 2fort trying to snipe other snipers, they are pretty useful in taking out key enemies and providing support.

The most annoying games I have seen are the COD2 "rifle only" matches. There are only two ways to play such matches:
1) camp like a ***** and hope that not everyone else is doing the same thing as you.
2) Run around until you are pointblank range with someone else running around and frantically jump up and down, crouch, and strafe around each other until someone gets lucky.

fps games need snipers in order to keep them balanced. imagine a full herd of noobs plowing through the map with assault rifles and grenades, you need a sniper to check their progress
