A lot of people are mistakenly saying "well steam does it and everyone is okay with that"
The reason being that many are fine with Steam doing is because the games are on sale so often at ranges from 25%-75% off so you wind up buying games at 2.50-10 bucks a pop vs 60 bucks. When do you see console games go on that kind of sale?
Right now with playsation+
Till your sub runs out then your game list is instantly gone, it's not the same. And I don't exactly feel comfortable with a service that can pull the rug from under your feet, potentially removing games whenever they want
Technically Steam can do the same thing. Pull your account away. But yeah it isn't steam lvl yet but it is pretty damm close.
The thing is also that PS+ doesn't have the new release thing going for it like Steam have. My personal theory is that if there were a service on the consoles that was as identical to what steam steam is (within what is technically possible) then the physical market would die out the same way it has for PC.
But it's different still, PSN+ you don't actually own the game, you have it because your subbed to them. Steam has removed games however if you purchased the game you still 100% own it. EA removed Crysis 2 and if you had bought it you still had full access to downloading it/playing it. They cannot remove the game from your ownership because you licensed it.

No, never because the games would stay expensive as console titles typically do.

I've purchased plenty of games on PSN (not plus) on sale for 90% off. That's right it cost me $1 to buy nearly every Pixeljunk game (regular $10). $1 to buy Dungeon Hunter Alliance (usually $12 I believe). There are weekly deals (not PSN+) of both 30% and 50% (or more) off the price.
Also, with Steam, you're already living in the era of no used game sales, so IMO, Valve and Steam can fuck off. I can't figure out why people praise that service so much. It's a fucking rip off and people just seem to bend over for it, take it up the ass and like it - then try to denounce Sony and Microsoft as evil for MAYBE doing the same thing in the future. It's fucking weird.
What are you talking about with Steam/Origin? I hate to be so blunt but you've
NEVER been able to sell your PC games. This is not new, I've had consoles & PC games for ages and PC games you bought in 1997 were worthless in any store. They require a serial number and often have a registering option so the game would always be worthless, if a shop DID buy from you, your game would be valued at 1 dollar & you'd be breaking some EULA where the person could lose access to the game. Steam & Origin have only made games easier to share your games, give my friends across the country my user & password and they can play my library easily. It's not defending, it's just the first thing PC gamers have had a chance at REAL sales and the sales are unbelivable, you're talking about titles 5-10 bucks on the PSN right? I got 60 dollar games for 10 bucks. Game gets removed from the steam/origin network? You still have full access to downloading the game you bought. I'm not defending the service, I don't hold loyalty to some dumb company I'm just saying don't get your mind twisted up that there was some magical land you could sell your PC games to, it's never been something you can do.
What the new consoles would bring in is a $60 physical game that you cannot sell, would potentially be locked to the SYSTEM not your email address. Because after all, want to play a game at your friends house but it's locked to your console? Well just unplug that ethernet cable and you probably could. Think that sounds weird? Look at the WiiU, the piece of shit that it is locks games to the device and NOT your email or such, so if your system goes belly up, you get a big "Sorry but look at the EULA, that's what you agreed to."
The problem with this is, what I said you can get 60 dollar titles often on insane sales & often if they're multiplayer you can buy a pack of 4 for the price of 3 even if they're on sale. Torchlight 2 on sale for 10 bucks? The four pack would be listed for 30 instead of 60, meaning 1 is free the rest are on sale. Can't sell them? Never could sell your pc games in the first place.
