Would depend on what features made it different than the competition. Nothing special, then probably no. Least not at first. Maybe after price drops.

I would be more willing to trust Valve than one made by the other names floating around such as Sega, Apple, or Atari. Valve>Sega>Atari>A shoebox with the word "console" sharpied on the side>Apple

Valve releasing a console would be preferable to PC gamers dragging PC gaming's corpse around, but I still find them reprehensible as a company.
They're a step above Apple in the grand scheme of things.
If they did, it would probably be the first console to support a mouse/Keyboard, and mods. So there's that.

No 'probably' about it, I wouldn't buy one.

However if they also released their console's OS for PCs and allowed for dual booting, I'd probably get that. A hardware agnostic gaming OS would rock my trousers.

A console nowadays costs like $500 at release. Valve's would probably cost north of that.

(For the sake of this thread, let's say that there's a fairly interesting line-up of games, and a price tag of, say, $300)

Honestly, no I would not. Valve does good software, hardware is an entirely different game.

What difference would that make? There's be less first party games probably, and other than that we'd still be getting all the third party games. There really wouldn't be any difference except that Microsoft and Sony have more experience and are therefore better equipped to make consoles.

It's called a PC.
You're kidding right? You do know that "console" refers to those things you hook up to your tv?
1. My computer is connected to a Sony Bravia 40" Television right now.
2. The term "console" is defined in multiple ways but not the way you just described.

Noun

"console" (plural consoles)

1. A cabinet designed to stand on the floor.
2. A cabinet that controls, instruments, and displays are mounted upon.
3. The keyboard and screen of a computer.
4. A storage tray or container mounted between the seats of an automobile.
5. (video games) A device dedicated to playing video games, set apart from arcade cabinets by its ability to change games.
6. (architecture) An ornamental member jutting out of a wall to carry a superincumbent weight.

That would make it a PC that doesn't use modular hardware architecture (which is what modern consoles are anyway), which is how PCs used to be back in the days of the C64, ZX81 and so on.

Honestly I don't care if a console is made by the Marijauna party of Canada, I just care about wether or not it has good games and decent controlls and graphics.

They have experience at making PC games. That is what they are good at. Sure they can get a console together but that is going against a lot of what makes them great. don't fix what isn't broken.
I certainly wouldn't buy it unless they got some SERIOUS help with experienced console manufacturers.

Considering "Valve Time" I'd probably be dead or close to it by the time one was actually released.
Pretty much this. As much as I love Valve's games they do a annoyingly long time in making them sometimes. I'll either be dead or in a retirement home by the time their first console comes out.

are you daying that PC gamers would like the console? just because its made by valve? depending on th features...its still a console and well....PC gamers prefer playing on a PC

also if PC gaming was dead then why do people still buy and play PC games?

Well, it would really depend on on its capabilities and features.

But the Valve name being attached would turn me off immensely. I hate them.

You do realize this is the Escapist forums you're asking this question, right? Not exactly an unbaised fanbase... I mean polling group...

Nothing against Valve. They make great games. But I don't think I'd want to see a Valve console.

Because they're what's known as a "Loud minority".
It's when a very small group is so vocal that they make people think they're a large group.
For example: The birther movement is a crazy fringe movement. But if you watched the news they seem like a big group.
PC game sales make up 7% of the market, and Blizzard is the only remaining PC exclusive AAA developer. When Activision inevitably makes them release Diablo for the consoles PC gaming will be completely dead.
