Yeah, most of these kind of sites are lucky to be even in the ballpark. For instance, we get far far more than an average of 138,712 daily page views and our uniques have been sharply rising between May 2010:2011 instead of steadily falling as that site might have you believe.CrystalShadow said:Heh. Sites like that are quite amusing.
My mother attempted to start a consulting service with her IT skills, and because she registered as a business, she ended up being listed on a business website.
Now, we found this listing, and it was quite amusing... Apparently, despite having no customers, no assets (apart from a government loan), no revenue, and well, pretty much nothing that could qualify as the signs of a real, functioning business, the website still listed her company with a valuation of about 1.1 million Euros.
Yeah, that's right. That's more than double what the escapist is worth, according to your source, and the escapist is an actual, functioning company, where my mother's most definitely was not.
(she's made a tiny bit of progress since then, but still...)
It really makes you wonder how these kind of sites come up with valuations...
Wait... what? Wikipedia does have any advertising revenue, it's non-profit.John the Gamer said:Also wikipedia makes $400,000 a day. Not bad for a encyclopedia.
Yeah, that's quite odd. I can't comment on the details since I don't have any ability to track these stats myself, but the page view figure seems pretty unlikely...Slycne said:Yeah, most of these kind of sites are lucky to be even in the ballpark. Lord knows how they calculate that worth and daily ad revenue.
I know, but maybe they haven't been totally honest with us. I'm guessing it's donations they use to keep the site running. Although it DOES say "ads revenue"... And that is only the English version of the site.Gasaraki said:Wait... what? Wikipedia does have any advertising revenue, it's non-profit.John the Gamer said:Also wikipedia makes $400,000 a day. Questions first: Why am I selling The Escapist? Who am I selling to? What do they plan to do to the site once it's theirs? What are the pros/cons of selling a moderately successful venture like The Escapist? How much money am I getting from The Escapist in the first place? What will the community think of it?Mr.PlanetEater said:Okay, so I was just browsing around the web and I stumbled upon a website that lets you find out the monetary value of a website (in dollars). As well as being able to find out where it's server is located, how much money are made off of ads everyday and even how many page views there are..
So I typed in the escapist and found;
http://valuethewebsite.com/www.escapistmagazine.com
What I find the most interesting is the monetary value of the escapist which is right around $525,101 USD. What's even more striking is that it's ranked #3,733 on the Alexa ranking system which has a few hundred thousand sites listed. Considering all of these figures if you owned the Escapist, would you sell it?
Personally I wouldn't sell it; even when it reached over a million dollars in worth, because I would hate to have the site be changed drastically and or closed down by the new owner.
I don't suppose you could explain why you don't like Extra Credits? Why do I want to know?Onyx Oblivion said:I'd sell it.
I kinda hate it since Extra Credits got here.
That said, can I just buy LRR and make them obey my every command instead?
