No, and I live here because I was born here. You have a computer, but you probably wouldn't die to defend it.

While I would much prefer making some other dumb fucker die for his country, I have answered my country's call to arms with the mentality of "It may not be perfect, but this is my home and I will defend her to the end." And if that means dying for the good ol' U.S. of A. I can live with that(or maybe "live" was the wrong word).

For my country? never! I'd die for my friends and family without a second of thought but my country? It's just a flag and a government filled with corruption and bribery and that goes for every country

Are you somehow suggesting my country is better off with me being dead? hmmmm... *considers*
well,if that would be what my country thinks...then fuck my country...
(nah, it's all good ,austria- you know I love ya..)

more on topic: no - because with just the vague assumption thrown out there...it's pretty pointless...and pathetic...and premature...and*fades away*

I wouldn't die for the land, the culture, or any political fuck-head.
But I would die for the people.

Well, as a civilian: no, because I don't believe that dying for your country is necessary to love your country, and loving your country is necessary to enjoy living (there).

Put differently, though, I might. If the question were: would you sell out your country to survive - that would be much harder.

But if I were a soldier, I'd just agree with Patton: You don't win a war by dying for your country. You win a war by making the other poor dumb bastard die for his.

No, I don't think I could sacrifice my life for any abstract, tribalistic notion like 'my country'. Moreover, the whole idea of dying for one's country (whatever that means) is vague to the point of being dangerous; too often it is invoked by politicians seeking an easy and meaningless cliché to justify empty deaths.

My country probably won't die for me, so why should I die for my country.

If your not willing to die for it, then why live there?
I won't die for any country, but I still need a place to live

PS:
General George S. Patton said:
No poor bastard ever won a war by dying for his country. He won it by making other bastards die for their country.

I would die for my family, but I would not die for my country. My country is run by greedy sacks of shit, and I cannot trust them to not send me to a war/conflict just for the simple purpose of them making more money. If another country were to invade, however, and my family was best served with my sacrifice? Any day of the week.

PS. I would have voted on your poll but I am unsure on what you meant with the *cranes neck* thing. This might of been addressed in the thread, but 12 pages of listening to escapists talk about their countries is not something I want to do at 8:00 in the morning.

That's not 'pretty straight-forward' at all. What do you mean by dying for 'your country'? What do you consider for a country? Do you mean dying in a war? That's not for a piece of land, that's for your government and against the other country's government. Do you mean in a hypothetical scenario where you die to prevent your entire country from sinking into the ocean? What?
