For me yes. If your not willing to die for it, then why live there? You obviously don't love it there very much.
I think you have two things very confused. I love living in my country, but that doesn't necessarily mean that i love all the crazy ideas that our politicians constantly get.

Being prepared to die for your country is basically equivalent to being prepared to do whatever your government asks you to do, because they... you know, feel like you should do it, no matter whether or not you agree. And pardon me for saying so, that's about the stupidest thing ever. It's worth remembering that even in a democratic society, the government isn't selected by all the people, they are only selected by the majority of the people, and if you don't happen to be a part of that majority, you are basically going to die for a political cause you might not agree with.

Here is a better question: Would you be willing to die (fight) for a worthy cause? Ask me that, and I'd definitely answer "Yes". To your poll, however, i had to answer no. I'm not going to risk my life every time my government gets some crazy idea.

Or here is an even better question: Would you be willing to die defending your country (from invaders)? Surely most people don't like it when strangers come and trash all over their lawn, no matter if they voted for the current government or not. You should make a new thread asking that question instead.

If you mean would I join the armed forces then no.

If you mean would I rather die than comit treason (meaning giving to a state secret, in my case one where lives the public were involved) then yes.

The uk is okay but by no means the best place in the world to live. But people who die for the uk don't nessarily love there country and vice versa.

I wouldn't die for my country per say, I can't really imagine a situation where I'd be able to prevent total annihilation of the UK by dying.

However, hypothetically, if an Evil Wizard appeared and convinced me that he would destroy Britain with an Evil Spell unless I sacrificed myself to him, I think it would be noble to sacrifice my life so that 62,262,000 men, women and children don't die.

Then again, I'd probably sacrifice my life for 62,262,000 Frenchmen or 62,262,000 Germans too, so I wouldn't really be dying for my country.

I certainly wouldn't voluntarily put myself in a position where I could die, or would have to kill other people, for the interests of my country's government and ruling elite.

To everyone saying no, does that mean that you wouldn't try to fight off an invading force?
Can I get myself and those I care about to safety without fighting? If so, no. I run. But if not, I'll fight. Not for my country, but for those I love.

you really think this is strait forward? I live in America, and here, dying for your country is really another way of saying "dying for some middle eastern country that I don't give a shit about". WW2 I would have fought in and been willing to die for my country, but since, the US has just started too many wars that they have no buisness starting. the day our world or my nation is really in danger of being completely ravaged is the day I enlist.

I'd risk my life for england, not sure if I'd go on a complete suicide mission for it though.

England's government however...If I really desperately needed to pee and number ten was catching fire, I'd find somewhere to pee that didn't risk saving the life of a complete good for nothing scumbag.
I agree with Doc complety on this.

I love my dogs. I wouldn't die for them, though...
That's an idiotic statement, by the way.
But I answered no because there isn't much point in it. I would die for the PEOPLE in a country, if it meant keeping them safe from harm. But I wouldn't die for the country.

Hell no! I'd make the other guy die for his!

Lol. But seriously. If it came down to it, yes, I would die for it because not only is it my home, it is also the place where those close to me live. I would die for them just as much as I would die for the ideals it is founded on and the ideals it employs.

I don't see dying for my country as dying for the government. They are not the same thing.

I view dying for your country as dying for its culture, customs, people, way of life, values, ideals, history, natural environment etc. Every positive thing ever created by your country, every sight and sound, every idea and act. As much as I dislike my country sometimes, it's still my home and where I grew up.

I would not allow those things to be destroyed without trying to prevent it. If I died trying to prevent it, then so be it.

Nah I'd just move to Canada or something. I'd rather not be living in England than be dead tbh...

You wouldn't die for Earth? But Earth is all we have. It's our perfect and seemingly impossible blue dot in the vastness of space. It's our home.
