Die for the USA? Never. Aside from the ever-growing contempt I sadly have for my country, the fact that America has donned the mantle of World Policeman Action-Hero swooping in to save every third-world country from evil dictators ruins any chance you'd have of getting me to die for it.

I'd die for the America of old where its citizens were worth dying for, and that stayed out of conflicts unless they directly threatened the country or were important enough to get involved in.

You wouldn't die for Earth? But Earth is all we have. It's our perfect and seemingly impossible blue dot in the vastness of space. It's our home.
Well part of it is my crippling fear of death, and the other part is that we won't be stuck here forever, you know.

I wouldn't die for my country, and I don't think that refusing to do so makes me a bad citizen/person.

Nope. Politicians have made most wars about money, and they themselves less concerned with serving the people or the country than they are in finding new ways to sling the same mud at their opponents.

For me yes. If your not willing to die for it, then why live there? You obviously don't love it there very much.
My country is laden with bigotry, greed, and corruption. When I think of a country I think of it's people and not it's soil. Were I able I'd leave. I imagine just about anyplace that isn't 3rd world or ruled by Sharīʿah law would be better. I doubt it's nearly as bad in say Sweden or France as it is in here in the good ol' U. S. of A. Where gun culture, fanaticism, and openly corrupt leadership have become the norm. Democracy? Rights? Liberty? Sure, as long as the money's there.

Edit:
Well said, Moe.

I believe in things bigger than myself. Such as my family and my country, and if those things were in danger I would sacrifice myself to save them.

I would not voluntarily, extreme and highly unlikely circumstanced excepted. That is to say, I wouldn't die "for my country's honor" or things like that, but I would die if the only other option were something like a total collapse of government/society/order or the deaths of a substantial number of people. But, then again, that goes for almost any group of people and is thus not specific to my country. So, no, I wouldn't die for my country in any circumstance that could plausibly come about.

Yes exactly, I don't love Ireland that much, it just happens to be where I was born and compared to other countries it's quite good I suppose, ideally i'd live in Scotland, not that i'd die for them either...

If I'm fighting a hostile invading force hell bent on wiping out the US then alright, sign me up.

If the US is low on tortillas and wants to send me down to a production plant in Mexico to take it over at any cost, no.

so, yes and no depending on how stupid the reasoning behind my death is. Bonus points if the death will be really awesome last stand kind of thing.

But surely if you were fighting for something, you wouldn't be fighting for everything bad about it? You'd be fighting for the good.

No, I would not. I don't love my country, I love my friends and family. I might die for a cause, like going to war to help stop a genocide or some other injustice, but not for something like Vietnam, or Iraq. And I don't love any country, but does that mean that I'm going to live nowhere? No, I'm still going to live somewhere regardless of how I feel about the country. If I had a choice, I would prefer to be born into a neutral country where they are able to spend their money on more important things, like education. Not saying that a country that goes to war is evil, just that if they were neutral, then they wouldn't have to have a military budget.

Dying for my country is essentially dying for 22.6 million people, so hell yes I'd die for it.

With that many people in my country, odds are at least one of them is worth dying for, and that would make my sacrifice worthwhile.
I love your perspective. You sir, are a thinker.

I love my country no matter what everyone else says about it and would gladly die for it, if I believed it would have an effect.

Would you die for your country? It's pretty straight-forward.

For me yes. If your not willing to die for it, then why live there? You obviously don't love it there very much.
Why is loving your country a prerequisite for being a good person? I love my world, and the people who live in it. In case you hadn't noticed, you have to live somewhere; someone who isn't willing to die for their country probably doesn't have any country they are willing to die for, and that's a good thing. Patriotism is a completely counterproductive and immoral idea in the modern world. We need to be travelling into the future together as a global community or we will die as pathetic little tribes. Countries are at best a necessary evil; and that's if they are even necessary.
As nice as that sounds, I think you're grasping a little too far for the future. Your ideology, while something to definitely aspire towards, is just not within our grasp as a species, or a people.

Maybe in a hundred years we'll be closer to that. I hope so.

I probably wouldn't die for my country. Would I die defending my family and friends? Yes.
